those 'after 40' medical tests...

our house in snow

I hope you enjoyed my photo of Caddo Lake yesterday.  I had to post something and wasn't in the mood to do much blogging. Had one of those 'after 40' medical tests Monday and after the prep and test, was thoroughly dehydrated and not feeling up to par.  To make matters worse, my left arm was black and blue due to 3 botched attempts to find a vein and 1 (finally) successful one. It wasn't their fault as my veins are usually easy to stick, but apparently the prep had extremely dehydrated me... which is what the nurses told me and  I believe since I was somewhat dizzy Tuesday morning. So I spent the day resting, drinking water, and putting warm compresses on my arm.

Today I feel better.  The immediate result of the test was good.  But they did take a biopsy and that result will come in later.  But for the moment, I'm just glad its over and done.

All 3 nurses were apologizing profusely for the unsuccessful attempts and I told them not to worry as they had definitely taken my mind off the upcoming procedure...

  1. Bleh. I'm already familiar with some of the "after 40" tests, though here it's more often "after 50."

Fingers crossed for the biopsy results.

  2. I'm glad you are feeling better today...getting blood taken is NEVER fun, especially if they MISS!

    1. They actually weren't taking blood, but trying to set up an IV for the anesthetic - but result is the same: it hurts. I try to tell myself at these times that there are people who go through a lot worse... so 'suck it up'. It helps... a little.

  3. Oh, the indignities of trying to stay healthy. Still, I really believe in taking the preventative measures and early screenings--and I always hope they show nothing unusual.

    1. "Indignities" - right on! But... you do what you have to do.

  4. Oh no! Somehow I am not comforted by the idea of having my mind distracted from a medical procedure by someone stabbing at you. Doesn't make it better at all. Dehydration does do amazing things to you though. Even sometimes in a normal afternoon when I find myself wanting a nap, I can have a big glass of water and wake up and even see more clearly.

Of course, beer is mostly water.

    1. No Murr, it didn't 'make it better'... but it WAS distracting. And apparently I don't drink enough water even on a normal day. But I will make the effort.

And although I'm not a big fan of most beer... I DO like Guiness. Will that work?
