memories of Christmas past...

This picture was taken at my daughter's house either last Christmas or the one before.  For whatever reason, I really like it.  It looks so cozy.  They won't be with us this Thanksgiving, but we do hope to see them during the Christmas holidays.  When the grand kids were little, we always had Christmas at our house for everyone (actually we had all the holidays at our house).  Now that they are older and don't all live close by, it's a little harder to arrange.

But it was the same for us when our kids were young. We tried to get them to New Orleans to spend Christmas with their Grandparents each year... but as they got older, it was difficult to take bikes and dollhouses, etc. with us and then there were get-togethers with their friends that they would miss, etc. So going home for Christmas wasn't every year anymore.

This is another favorite photo.  It is Ghost under the Christmas tree.  The cats LOVE the Christmas tree ! We get a huge live tree and hang unbreakable ornaments on the lower branches so they can be swatted at by hidden paws.  There are consequences to this  -  we do find a large amount of ornaments spread about the den and under the furniture in the mornings. And occasionally one of them will get entangled in the lights and take half the strings off, but these things are only minor inconveniences.

And this one was taken of Julie as she sat inside a Christmas basket that had a bird lantern.  It's not especially good... but again, I like it.

Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Thanksgiving to All!

  1. Hi, Rian, yes, I think it was this way for most of us. We were lucky in that both my parents and Mr. Sweet's parents lived in the same town. After our children were bigger and expecting Santa, we had Christmas morning at home. Christmas Eve with my parents and Christmas dinner at inlaws.
Now, it's the same with us.
Everyone comes here for Christmas Eve...gifts and a good dinner.
And, they (all 19)will be with us for Thanksgiving...no, wait, there will be only 16 as a grand and her hubs and baby will be going to his parents.
Whew...it is always a whirlwind around here this time of year. :) And, I LOVE IT !!

    1. Yes, despite what is going on in the world or in our lives, Christmas is good for the soul.

  3. That fire in the fireplace just says Christmas. Our family is so spread out that we rarely are all together for the holidays and it does make me sad. Growing up, we always had big family gatherings and I really miss that.

    1. So far we have 'almost' always been able to gather here for Christmas. The ones that live here go to their 'other' families on Christmas Eve and here for Christmas morning. The ones who live out of town usually come in a few days before and leave the day after. So... we've been lucky that way... so far.

  6. Those memories are what we work hard to make happen for our children. The joy is we get them too. I love the cozy fireplace. Its funny how a picture can bring back a feeling. Warm and fuzzy. Now Ghost in the tree is beautiful. I love those little paws poking through. We have Mo who loves bakets too. Much Love.

  7. Hi Kelly, the cozy fireplace does draw one to it - as does the Aga and the Christmas tree, etc. I'm thinking we're drawn to warmth and light... and children and critters too - at least I am.

    1. Hi Dee, we love our little ghost too... only now she's not so little (that was an old pic). She's 5 now (the Vet told us that she probably wouldn't make through her first year - ha!)
