It worked!

Jack and Tux sharing the warmth on these dreary days

Hurray! Switching to Google Chrome worked, DJan!  And thanks to all of you who had recommendations. This just happened to be the easiest... so I tried it first.  It is a little different, but it also allows me again to use my fonts and font sizes... which was another glitch that had happened a while back which I could never fix.

So, I'm back uploading new pics today.  This one shows where the cats and I spend our dreary cold winter days.  I'm usually there right with them with one or both on my lap while I  read.  I'm also working on a baby blanket for new grand daughter, but it's difficult to knit with 2 (or more) cats playing with the yarn. They love yarn.  We learned a long time ago not to leave any yarn lying around or they get together and basically web the house. Apparently it's great fun.

Can you see the weaved pattern?

Also a note here regarding my last post.  Please do not think that I was advising anyone not to get the flu vaccine.  I would never do that.  DH and I get it every year and believe it is important. The flu can be very serious.  When my daughter mentioned to me the *possible* connection between the flu shot and the rash (which was only a small area about 2 inches on my back), I was just curious to know if anyone else had heard of this.  So far, no one has.

Again, thanks for all your advice with my uploading probs. Now I can get back to posting new pics!

  1. It looks like you have a cat rug in front of the stove.

    1. I know, Olga. We could possibly fit one more cat on it... but Molly (our 19 year old) prefers her afghan on the sofa.

  2. I am so glad to know the fix worked! Now one more thing: be sure you export your photos from full sized (2-3 MB) to something less huge. I use iPhoto to do that, and I don't know what you might be using, but this is my process: I go into my picture file and find the one I want to use and then export it to my desktop in the smallest resolution available. It doesn't make any difference in the way it looks on the screen, but uploading time is significantly reduced, and after I put the picture in, I simply delete the lower-res picture from my desktop. People with slow connections will thank you! :-)

    1. I've never done this. Usually I just click on the picture and it goes into my blogger photo file, then I click on that and it posts, then I size it small, medium, large, etc. on site. Always figured that blogger was resizing it at that point. Goes to show how much I know...

  3. I'm glad you can upload photos again. I like Google Chrome better myself but I still use Internet Explorer for some of its features.
I found two links with suggestions on how to fix the problem just in case you may need it in the future:

    1. Thanks, Dee. We really do need a bigger rug.

And so far, Google Chrome is working fine. I'm getting used to going to it instead of Internet Browser... and finding my way around Blogger on it. I keep hitting the X to go back (instead of dashboard) and end up starting over.

  5. I love your baby blanket, Rian, but don't envy you trying to knit it with cats about. When we had cats I always had the same juggling act to do.

Sorry to hear you've been having Blogger problems. I started to use Chrome early last year, when I was having difficulty commenting on blogs using IE and find it very easy to use. DJan's advice about resizing photos is very important, as there is a size limit on the amount of free photo storage Google provides for each blogger and if you post a lot of high resolution photos you can reach that limit surprisingly quickly. I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to resize mine.

    1. Hi Perpetua, I imagine I'll always have cats around... with 6 of them from 7 - 19 yrs old, some will definitely outlive us.

As for my blogger probs, I'm thinking that Google Chrome has solved it... at least so far. Now I will check into 'resizing'. Is Microsoft Office Picture Manager a free program?

    2. Sadly it isn't, Rian, as it comes as part of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, but there are free photo-editing programs that would let you resize your photos. I've just done a Google search and found the following, though obviously I don't know how easy they are to use.

      http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php

      http://www.serif.com/free-photo-editing-software/

and this one which lets you edit your photos online:

i hope you find one which suits you.

    3. Perpetua, you guys are great help. When you said that the photo sizing program comes with Microsoft Office, I thought... "but I HAVE that"? And I do! Have never used that part of it, mostly use *word*. But now... tell me what do I want my photos sized down to? And by doing so, will I still be able to 'size them up' as needed?

DJan mentioned 'exporting to her desktop' before using. How do you do this?

    4. Rian, this is what I do:

In the photos folder on my laptop I have a section for the photos I have used or want to use on my blog. Here I have a folder labelled Current Post into which I copy the full-sized photos I want to use this time.

I then open Picture Manager and click on the Current Post folder. When it opens and the photos appear, I select all those in landscape format and in the right sidebar click on Edit pictures.

A new list of options will appear, from which I select Resize.

From the list of options then given I select 'Percentage of original width and height.'

Choosing 30% gives an approximate pixel count of 600 x 450 which is ample for any but a specialist photo blog and which is small enough that Google won't even count them towards the storage limit.

I then repeat the procedure for any images in portrait format.

The resized images are then saved back to my Current Post folder ready for uploading to my blog.

When I upload them I can choose whichever size option I want from Blogger's options.

Have a look at some of the images in recent posts on my blog and double/treble click on them to open in Google LightBox. You will see that they can be viewed very well this way, with plenty of detail and contrast. At the moment your images are so big that they won't even open in the LightBox which is a shame.

If you need any more information, my email address is in my profile and I'd be happy to help off your blog.

  6. Hi there ...Happy 2013 ...just had a catch up of your posts ....love when cats struggle to share a mat or blanket ....and I love your knitting....and that breakfast.
I am trying to learn my new computer but I like my old one better...I am hoping to get it mended and instead of sharing with Jay, I'll have one of my own again. It fell foul of one of the 5 grandsons ...all too young to admit or know what really happened... when someone ????? put it on the floor .... and the screen was smashed.
    Take care xx

    1. Hi Angie, Welcome back! "...smashed screen" - that is bad. We actually have an old laptop that had it's screen "cracked". It was at my son's house with his boys... another mystery as to how... but irrelevant actually. We've never tried to fix it. I would like to get another laptop as a backup one day (and they are pretty cheap these days), but can't right now... with Christmas and taxes, etc.

Enjoy playing catch up. I've had to do it many times.
