Crazy week... so I'm making cookies :)

This has been one of those crazy weeks.  One son out of town from Sat until Tues. Another son out of town Tues thru Thurs. And DH out of town from Wed thru Saturday.  Sons off on business, but DH off to spend a few days with his mom down in Baton Rouge, LA.  We would have both went, but as it happened, Grandson was still in school with Dad out of town, so I stayed to do the "to school and from school" run.  We enjoyed it.  He and I went out to eat and got to talk about "stuff".

MIL is 95, still lives by herself (although there is family close by).  I love to visit her as she is another cat lover and lives on 15 acres.  As it happened, family members in BR all needed to be out of town this past week also... so DH went down to stay for a bit.  Actually she does pretty well on her own, but this last year has been a little hard on her.  They have talked about moving her into a nice assisted living place - and she has visited there - but she's not sure about it (and I can understand that).

Anyway, since I had the house to myself most of the week, I took the opportunity to clean out some areas that needed cleaning.  I also took the 2 little kittens to the Adoption Center where they immediately vaccinated them and put them into the Adoption room.  I had kept them clean and groomed, well fed, and friendly, so they shouldn't have any problem getting homes.  And if I keep them too long I start to get attached.... it's not hard looking into those trusting little faces.

So I steam cleaned the bathroom floors, washed all the 'kitty blankets' that we have around the house, comet-ed and Clorox-ed all my counter tops, etc.  It's amazing what you can do when you don't have to cook or run errands, or do things for other people.  I even got in a nap one or two days... and met a friend for coffee!

Now I'm making Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Julie's helping

Actually I'm making Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Snickerdoodles... as I added Cinnamon Sugar on top.
I mean, really, it can't be bad, ya think?

Oh, one more thing... Got a video (granted not a great one as it's through the French Doors) of the outside black and white kittens cavorting on the back patio.  They are playing in a basket... can you see them?

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Adorable video. Of course, kitties always are, and I do hope they will be adopted right away! Preferably together, but... :-)

    1. The outside kittens are fun to watch. These black and whites will probably remain in our yard... unless I get them friendly enough to catch. They are already old enough to be 'very fast'.

  2. Wishing the kittens the best on finding a new home. I hope they are well loved and live a long life. Your cookies look great. I am making a batch of applesauce oatmeal ones today.

    1. The cookies were good. I didn't have enough chocolate chips as the recipe called for... but we enjoyed them. I'll bet your applesauce oatmeal ones were good too.

  3. I think sugar dusting makes any cookie great. Great sweet crunch surprise when you bite.

    1. I like to add that baker's sugar to the top sometimes. However, this time I just used regular 'cinnamon sugar'.

  4. Those kittens are adorable and they're certainly having a great time. Doesn't take much, does it? LOL. It's harder to keep them entertained when they get older!

Your MIL is 95 and still on her own...and on 15 acres? That's AMAZING. Seriously. Dad's mom lived into her early to mid-90s, but the last few years were in a nursing home.

I'm starving right now, supper in the oven...send a few cookies to hold me over! :-)

    1. My mom lived to be 94, but due to Alzheimer's, she was also in a home the last 2 years of her life. She probably had Alzheimer's earlier than that (it would explain a lot), but wasn't diagnosed as such until the very end. She lived with DH and I for 13 years.

  5. 95 and still able to be on her own... mostly. Oh how lucky is she!!!

'Tis fun to have time to one's self, and to do what one decides to do, when one wants to. :-)

    1. Yes, my MIL is lucky for the most part. Her mind is still good (of course she is also stubborn), but her body is failing her. It's strange because mom lived to be 94 and it was just the opposite; her body was strong, but her mind was failing. Don't know which is better or worse...

  6. I so want one of those cookies ...they look so yummy.
As for the kitties ...they are soooooo cute.
I take my hat off to your MIL ....I would love to reach my 90's ... with a strong mind and a weak body I think... but I shall just be pleased to reach my 80's xx

    1. I think you are right, Angie... a strong mind and a weak body may be the best choice. I don't know about the 90's. It does get 'difficult'.

  7. This made me smile, Rian, as I too always take advantage of DH being away to do some cleaning and sorting with no interruption. :-) Those biscuits look wonderful!

    1. Yes, Perpetua, I dreaded him leaving... but I did get 'a lot' done.

  8. Absence makes the heart grow fonder if only gone a short time and the house much cleaner. Love to watch kittens and puppy's at play. So care free and innocent.
