Sweet Tea... and MIL's 'Midnight Rose'

I'm enjoying DH's home-made Minted Sweet Tea while I write this.  He makes the best Iced Sweet Tea in the world... or so our family and friends' say.  It is good.  My daughter makes iced tea a lot too, and hers is good... just a little different (maybe not as strong). But the first thing any of our kids want when they come home is Dad's tea.

So yes, DH is back from his trip to visit with his mom.  She is doing well, but he still makes us laugh with the stories he brings back. (I'm sure my kids will do the same). He also brought back her Royal Albert China Tea Service.  We had given her that years ago because she liked China and she and I liked to have 'tea' together.  And she's been *trying* to return it to me for several years. (I kept putting her off).  Anyway, I guess because DH was there alone, she got him to pack it up and take it to me... saying she has no use for it anymore and she wanted me to have it. It's beautiful and I love it... just wanted her to enjoy it a while longer.

She also returned the crystal water carafe and cup that we gave her. I doubt if she ever even used this.  But I thought it would be nice for her to keep water by her bedside.  So I will use both these things and think of her. (Hopefully my cats will allow the water carafe  to sit on my night table without getting too playful with it.)

And lastly for this post, I came across this cat cartoon the other day.  Can't remember where, but it made me laugh...

Now for it to be appropriate for me, it should have a bunch of nursing mama cats with their babies tagging along behind...

Happy Sunday!

  1. The tea service is lovely. I have a handful of fine bone china cups, passed down, but not an actual service. I'd never use one.

RE: sweet iced tea: In Canada, iced tea is already sweetened, whether you order it in a restaurant or buy it in a bottle. I recall the first time I ordered "ice tea" in the States, never thinking it wouldn't be sweet....gross. LOL.

Good luck keeping the water carafe intact. I know that it wouldn't stay in one piece in this house, with Nicki around. ;-p

    1. Sweet Tea is basically a southern thing here. But most places now will ask "sweet or unsweetened". It's funny because we don't use sugar in our coffee or tea (or even ask for it in a restaurant), but DH never makes tea at home without sugar, lemon, and spearmint leaves.

  2. Oh what beautiful items.

And if she's been wanting to return them to you, becha' it made her feel good, to have it accomplished. It's hard to want to do something, and not be really up to the project. :-)

Oh my gracious! That is such a funny pic. -chuckle-

    1. Auntie, I have to comment on your reference to 'Judi Dench' haircut. I've always loved the other girl's hair on "As Time goes by" - not the daughter, but her blonde friend's bob...

    1. I love that pattern also. You don't see that blue much. You see the red more, the "Old Country Roses" pattern.

  5. That carafe is gorgeous ...so perfect for your bedside ...just keep it away from the edge!!...and the tea set is so pretty ...such a shame tea sets are so rarely used. I have one from 1930's passed down from my Nana which has never been used, ever, and a couple of others from MIL and a Great aunt ...both more practical but I personally have never used them....but I cant part with them.
Thank you for your comments on my day out ...Anstruther is about 20 miles away ...takes about an hourish by bus so is easy to get to.The journey from my little town, on around the coast, passes through wonderful tiny seaside villages and towns that make up whats known as the East Neuk of Fife. If you keep going around the coast you would end up at St Andrews ....where Prince William went to university. xx

  6. Angie, you should take your tea sets (or at least cups) out and use them sometimes... even if just by yourself. Enjoy them and savor the memories.

And I think the area where you live sounds wonderful. Seaside villages and towns are so picturesque. We spent a night in Berwick-on-Tweed when we were 'railing' it around Scotland. It was a quiet little place.
