Sun's out... but it's cold

This blue jay has catfood pellets in his mouth. Despite the fact that we put out birdseed, they (as well as the raccoons and possums) seem to prefer dry catfood.  And they seem to have very little fear of the black cats that are over this yard.  But if he glimpses me inside the house with a camera pointed at him, he's off in a flash! I had to stand back a bit, hidden some behind the door jam to get this pic.  You can see the ice pellets all over the grass from the frozen rain and sleet we had yesterday. This morning the sun is out and although it was 16 F earlier, it's supposed to get up to 31 or 32 later today.

outside cats' frozen water bowl

I didn't get any pics of the outside cats this morning, but here is one we took a few days ago... when the weather was better.

When the weather is bad, they pretty much stay on the back porch under the heat lamps or slip inside the garage where there's plenty of hay and blankets for warmth.

So goes another day with schools closed again due to icy roads.  I spent the morning playing around with my clay - sculpting little Easter bunnies - just for fun.  I have underglazed these 2 little ones and have not totally finished sculpting the 3rd. Here is a pic of the first 2. Remember, they are still clay with a little underglaze on top... haven't been fired yet... and then will need a coat of clear glaze and be fired again. But it kept my hands busy as too much crochet or TV sometimes gives me a headache... so I'm trying to keep away from both today.

And as I walked past our bedroom, there was Ghost curled up on my pink bed jacket.  As you can see from her face, she didn't like being disturbed.

  1. Good capture on the blue jay, even though you had to be partially hidden!

Gosh, it looked so warm and green there, before the ice. Crazy weather for you...at least we've been consistently freezing. LOL.

    And those bunnies are adorable!

    1. You know... I think I may take *crazy weather* to *consistently freezing*. At least we know the cold doesn't stay around too long. It's just kind of a shock to go from shorts weather to long johns all in a matter of hours.

  2. Ghost is not looking so happy to be photographed. Maybe he is made that you were paying attention to clay bunnies or outdoor critters.

    1. *He* is a *she* - not that it matters - but her face almost always looks this way. If she's really upset, she'll hiss or growl at me (like if I move around too much in bed and disturb her during the night). Actually, the more I look at it, this pic is not so bad.

  3. Such beautiful vivid colors on the blue jay...well worth hiding behind the door jam. The outdoor cats are beautiful and so well cared for...they are fortunate to live by you..♥Lucy says to tell ghost hello...

    1. Ghost says *Hi* back to Lucy... and wonders what trouble she can get into today. She has been in high spirits... chasing the other cats and wanting to play.

  4. Those are all great colors. I got new glasses today, and I can SEE all the details that escaped me before. Your outside cats are very healthy looking. I'm so happy to see Ghost all warm and cozy, too. :-)

    1. I felt that way when I got my last glasses... like wow, what a difference!
And yes, they are all pretty healthy looking... thick shiny coats and clear bright eyes!

  5. Ghost looks like she is full of character. Your out-door cats look very healthy (and why shouldn't they) from all your care. Can you get near them, Rian? I should look back on some of your posts as I'm sure you have talked about them. The bunnies are cute. I love when it's time to decorate for Easter. Bunnies, lambs & flowers are so needed right now. We are worn out from this cold weather.

    1. DH feeds them and yes, they come right up to the dishes to be fed, (and will rub on his legs) but they don't want to be touched. If you put your hand down close, they will back off.

  6. Keep warm and snug; this weather has to end. The bluebird seems quite content, however.

    1. We're trying to keep warm. You do the same. And yes, it's amazing how the outside animals seem to adjust... even the kittens *play* out in the cold... whereas us inside critters huddle by the fire.
