Pottery projects... spring 2016

My pottery projects this semester consist of baking dishes and more clay critters...

chickens
These chickens are still greenware with a little underglaze. They are headed for first firing... (I love chickens!)

resting doggie

sleeping fox
The doggie and the fox are still  'works in progress'... but I don't intend to do much more than add a little color (underglaze) once the clay is dry.  BTW, I used paper clay for these. This is new for me, but I wanted to see if I liked it. So far, so good.

I've done these critters at home. That's why I can take photos and post them. The baking dishes are at the studio. But I will eventually get some pics of them also... that is, if they survive the kiln.

And of course I need to say Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!
Have a wonderful Sunday!

  1. You have an excellent eye and good fingers for capturing your sculpted animals.

    1. It's fun, Joanne. I like to see if I can capture the comfy pose or at least the gist of it.

  2. I love all your critters, I think they're amazing! You could have an Etsy shop...but then it would become work and maybe take away some of the fun.

    1. You are right, Kim. I think that I fear losing my enjoyment of it if it became work (I feel the same about the stories I write). For now I like to give my stuff away... but since neither of us is working any longer, it would be nice to have some income coming in.

  3. love the sculpted animals, are they hollow or solid. I've always wanted to try paper clay but never have, one of these days, can't wait to see the finished pieces.

    1. Linda, they are solid, but I hollow out a hole in the center before the clay becomes hard. They are small, so I've had no trouble with the firing. And I do like the paper clay for this... doesn't seem to dry as quickly while you're working with it and seems a bit more flexible.

    1. DJan, I have a dear friend who loves the doggies too. She has the last 2 I finished.

  5. These are all delightful. I really like the cheery chickens. There is no mistaking that you are in tune with animals, it shows in your work. You have a talent in this expression.

    1. The chickens sit on the warming plate of my Aga. I have a few little *pie birds* that I bought years ago that sit there too. It's like my own little chicken farm.
