Uncluttering our space...

Met a dear friend for lunch this past week. We both talked about getting some of our spaces uncluttered. She quilts and has fabric and quilting stuff everywhere. Says that she can't even get to her closets in her quilting room. I have "stuff" all over my computer room. It's my 'catch all'... and even though I clean it up maybe once a year, it always ends up like this picture of my desk.

Well, I started there... and ended here:

Easy to do. Most of the stuff was added to that on the trundle bed...

Now that I've gotten to that...

it leaves me with this...

"thank you, mom!  We needed this space..."

Cats do appreciate clean... clean clothes (especially warm out of the dryer), clean bed linens (love it when we change the sheets), and apparently any space that is cleared so that they can get to it. Yes, if cats ruled the world, it would be clean - as long as they didn't have to do it.

Not a terribly interesting post, but just thought I'd share.

BTW, my grand daughter who is 3 was here yesterday and she was watching one of the outside ferals from the front window. She asked if he could come inside? And when I said no, she asked "Why?" and  I explained that he was not our cat... that he lived in the neighborhood. Again she asked "Why?" I said that there were many many outside cats and we couldn't take all of them inside, but that we (and probably others in the neighborhood) put out food and water for them. This seemed to satisfy her. And it reminded me of a poster that I saw recently on another blog.

Isn't that a great poster?

  1. That poster is so SAD. It made me want to cry for that little creature's misery. That was a good answer for your little one. And your decluttering is looking good. I think the cats approve. :-)

    1. Oh, the cats definitely approve. There are 3 of them on the bed now...

  2. Decluttering is always to be commended. I'm a real crusader for decluttering. Most of us collect entirely too much 'stuff.'

    1. You are right, Linda. We do collect too much "stuff". And I'm the worse because even though I'm not a hoarder, I look at something and can't part with it - even when I know it won't mean a thing to anyone but me. If I thought it might, I could pass it on.

  3. My sister tries occasionally to clear out the quilting studio. There is something about people addicted to fabric--clutter is just the background noise.

    1. There is something about fabric... I only do a little quilting, so my fabric collection isn't as large as some. But I have tons of pictures, and books, and writings, sketches, pottery, etc. Needs to be organized and/or cleared out.

  4. My daughter and two grandchildren have four cats, but I think my grand daughter might be somehow distantly related to you. Her one act of rebelliousness was to bring home the fourth cat when her mam had said no.

    1. It's hard to keep the numbers down... when there are so many who need homes. What keeps us from taking any more in is the fact that any new ones (and possibly 3 of the 4 we have now) will outlive us and then what will happen to them?

  5. That poster makes me want to cry too. I've seen it before but it's heart-rending.

Terrific job on decluttering! You know I LOVE to declutter! I get the urge to get rid of everything and have to stop myself, because, well, I do need SOME things in the house, to function in my daily life. LOL.

    1. Don't say terrific job yet. I've gotten this far before and before I can get to the floor and the closet, the desk and bed fill up again. So... it'll take perseverance to keep going (the hardest "the closet" is yet to come). But keep up the encouragement!

  6. It must be going around. I just cleaned my closet. Love how the cats claimed the new free space.
That poster almost made me cry.

    1. Haven't gotten to the d...closet yet. The whole room is a work in progress. Hopefully I'll make it that far. The closet is packed to the gills!
The cats left the room for a little while today as I stripped the bed and vacuumed underneath it. But as soon as the vacuum was gone, they were back in a flash!
