a birthday, projects, cats, and Halloween...

our oldest son at One Year Old

Our oldest just recently had a birthday and I was looking at this pic of him at One Year Old. I always loved this pic. And sometimes I still see him as he looks here... although many years have passed.  I would guess that it's probably normal for all parents to do this. Anyway, I decided to share this pic today.

Tux and toy pup

This next pic is Tux and a toy pup that the cats like for some reason. If you look closely, you can see Ghost yawning in the background. I'm sure she's thinking... 'how boring, mom's taking pics again...'

knitting and crocheting projects

I've been working on a thick crocheted blanket for ages... putting it away and then picking it up again. That's the piece that's on the bottom here. The pastel crochet baby blanket I just started... and the knitted cream blanket on the bottom right is another. It gets a bit tiresome working one pattern, so it's nice to switch off to another project occasionally.

pale pastel quilted piece

This is a baby strip quilt that I just finished piecing this week. I still have to get the fabric for the backing and borders.

As you can see, since my recent cataract surgeries and no classes, I've been looking for projects (as if keeping my house clean, taking care of inside and outside cats, cooking for DH, and occasionally baby sitting with grandkids wasn't enough). Was planning to sculpt some clay animals recently (maybe a few more chickens), but when I checked my paper clay, it was all full of mold. I know that they say molded clay is OK to use, but with my recent eye surgeries, I didn't think it a good idea. So... I will try to get hold of some more paper clay.

some of my clay chickens... and other critters

Oh, and I finally got DH to write down his red bean recipe, so if anyone wants it, I will post it soon... along with my tea cakes and caramel sauce... as well as a few others. Just came across a cookie recipe called "chocolate globs" - has huge chunks of chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, walnuts, pecans, etc. in it. It was pretty darn good. We tried it yesterday.

And I will close today with a few Halloween decorations we have around the place.

reading kitty and clay pumpkin

My daughter-in-law gave me this little reading kitty recently. Isn't he adorable?

Halloween decs

The books and skull are supposed to be out on the hay bale on front porch along with an assortment of pumpkins, but the black ferals out front have been sleeping on the hay bale, so we've postponed putting anything out there until Halloween Eve... when hopefully all the black cats will be safe and hidden away from trick or treaters (although they do make an appropriate Halloween decoration).

That's it for today. Have a great week!

  3. I can see why that photo of your son would be a favourite. My goodness, what a wonderful shot. Love his curled up hair!

At least you finish the projects you start. I'm notorious for starting a knitting project, then digging it out five years later only to unravel the wool. Actually, I haven't knit anything in several years now for just that reason.

The mention of all the food is making me hungry. If only I liked to bake and/or cook. It's an achievement if I make myself a sandwich. Okay, slight exaggeration, but not by much.

That reading kitty IS adorable! I don't do Halloween, I really don't like the "holiday" at all, though I do like many of the decorations people put out. Christmas is more my thing, but I'm not even sure I'll bother this year. I'm not feeling it, but of course it's so early yet.

Take care, have a great week.

    1. Yes, at one, he had very little hair, but a few red curls. The grandson in the pics to the right is his son and they are definitely look alikes.
And I do have a few 'not finished projects' around... so you aren't the only one, Kim. Sometimes one gets discouraged with a project.
And as for Halloween, it isn't a favorite holiday of mine either (except for the pumpkin custard pie).

  4. You certainly are busy. I wonder if the cats think the little dog is a kitten.

    1. Not sure what they think, Joanne... but they have always liked toys. I know that some people say their cats don't play, but ours certainly do. I can put all their toys together in one place and by morning they're scattered all over the house. If they get hold of yarn, they *web* the house...

  5. I love your little clay animals. Through Kim I have heard how crafty you are. I think Inhave crocheted two blankets in my life and they are a rather odd shape. My Mum is a wonderful crafter like your self. I don't know what happened to me!!

    1. Thanks for dropping by. I also visited your site... and will be back. As for the craftiness, I just like to make things with my hands. They don't really have to be good, but they fulfill some need I guess.

  6. I'm so glad your cataract surgery was such a success. Your projects are absolutely lovely.

What a sweet photo of your son. I wish I had more photos of my kids when they were very young. I have more of my first than my second. I suspect my grandson will be much photographed.

Looking forward to the recipes. Have a wonderful week!

    1. It's strange, Olga. When I dream of my children, they are always very young. Wonder why that is?
