Croupy crud...

So glad that DH and I got our flu shots about 2-3 weeks ago. Saturday morning we both woke up with sore throats and congestion.  It's weird when this happens to us at the same time. I thought I had a scratchy throat Friday, but ignored it pretty much. However, during the night I could feel the congestion building in my chest... and this morning DH tells me he thinks he has a cold. I said,"Really?  Me too??"

So today we are both drinking hot liquids (tea and soups), and resting a bit... as well as gargling our throats and using saline solution in our nostrils. With a little luck we'll be able to nip this in the bud. We generally don't get sick much and when we do, it doesn't last too long.

But I have to tell you a funny (?) story that happened Saturday afternoon. As most things, it was not funny at the time...

Anyway, by about 4pm Saturday I was coughing so much  that I knew I was in for a sleepless night, so I sent DH off  to the drugstore down the block for some Mucinex and cough drops - just in case.

Well, due to the fact that I'm extremely sensitive to anything with Dextromethorphan Hbr (DM),  I made sure he took the box of 600 mg Mucinex (no DM) with him - as these days when you go to buy medicine there's 12 different kinds of the same thing. Well, first he came home with 1200 mg Mucinex (have to admit the box was exactly the same except for the mg).  He went back out again and came home this time with 600 mg Mucinex DM.  I offered to go back this 3rd time, but out he went again (think it was becoming 'a thing'), this time coming home with the needed 600 mg Mucinex (no DM). Luckily the drugstore is close by, but I had to laugh thinking that the Pharmacist or drugstore employee must be thinking, "oh no... he's back".

And we were thinking of how or where we might have caught this... and came up with - 'probably standing in line to vote' - what's the old saying, "no good deed goes unpunished"...

Ghost giving me the "Mom, ... just come back to bed" look

Think I will...

    1. Of course. No regrets there. And actually we babysat 3 year old grand daughter about a week ago and she had an awful cough... ?? So, who knows? Doesn't really matter.

  3. Flu shots are really just a weak strain of the flu so your immune system can boost up to it. I'm not surprised you said you felt a little ill afterwards

    1. Well, I don't think this has anything to do with the flu shot since that was 2 weeks ago, but who knows... could be.

  4. Does the dextramathorapin make you jittery? It's funny how it is supposed to make you sleepy (and it does for most people), but others find it makes their heart race and they can't sleep. I'm glad you got your medicine and hope you don't stay sick for too long. -Jenn

    1. Benadryl will make me jittery and not sleepy like some folks. But DM gave me a violent reaction... broke out in a sweat, almost passed out, had diarrhea, and was extremely dizzy for a long time.

  5. I'm sure the drugstore staff did chuckle over this! Not so funny is feeling crummy, though. Sending healing vibes that you both feel much better soon; the boys send their purrs.

    1. Thanks, Kim. Used Tylenol and some old home remedies when I went to bed last night. Drank some hot tea with lemon and honey, and - rubbed Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of my feet then put them in socks (read that it would stop "coughing"?) Something worked as I slept pretty well...

    1. Yes, sometimes things are funnier when you're older... or maybe it's just that we do more funny things?

  8. Geeze! Vicks on the bottom of your feet????? That's a new one. When I was little I always got at least one really bad cough every winter. My mother would take a rag smear Vicks on it and lay it over the top of the shade of a lighted lamp and let it warm a bit then she would lay it on my chest and tie it around my neck. The heat helped the Vicks vaporize and really made a difference. I always say that the smell of Vicks Salve reminds me of Love.

Hope your cold is mild and quickly goes away.

    1. I know, Vic... sounds so strange. But it did work... and DH used it last night (very iffy about it) and said that he was surprised, but it did seem to work. Who knows?
