hope lives on...

It's taken me a few days to collect myself after this election. Even now I don't have a lot to say. Was so totally floored by the outcome. But now I have decided to go on with life and let things unfold as they may. The world will handle it's problems as best it can... and so will the U.S.  Who knows? I like that saying "it will all be OK in the end... and if it's not OK, then it's not the end." So... hope lives on.

Now I'll return to a safe subject... cats. Our 4 have been looking forward to the big Christmas Tree event! It's not for another 2 weeks, but they love having that huge tree in the house for a few weeks. We always get a fresh live - approximately 10 foot tree to put in the den. And the cats love it! They sleep under it, climb up into it's branches, and have a great time knocking ornaments off... and unstringing lights! It's the ultimate cat toy!

Ghost in Christmas tree

We actually haven't spent much time thinking about Thanksgiving or Christmas yet, but will get to it eventually. The elections, as well as a few other things have side-tracked us recently. And the weather is still relatively warm... in the 70's.

It was nice enough to take a walk with my little grand daughter this morning down to the stables to see the horses. She will be 4 at the end of this month and is growing like a weed. Her little mind is growing too... as she asks "why?" for everything... and comes up with some pretty good answers on her own. At one point she told me that she kept thinking about 'something or other that she had left at home' and even though she kept 'telling her mind not to think about it.... it kept thinking about it anyway, Gra Gra ??' (got to love 'em).

Again... walked around the house checking on cats and came across these pics.

Life goes on...

We will continue to believe in all the good things that can be done. We will continue to work towards making them happen. Life seems to be a one step forward, two step back dance. But we will keep trying. Have a good week...

  1. You have a good week, too. It is time to start thinking about the holidays.

  2. Your granddaughter is at one of those "perfect" ages. Have the cats ever knocked down the Christmas tree? We had one cat who insisted on drinking the water at the bottom of the tree. (spruce flavoured?) -Jenn

    1. Jenn, she is definitely at an interesting age. Someone asked her what she would do if her mama and daddy weren't around to take care of her... and after about 2 seconds of thought, she answered, "Be bad!!" I thought that was an insightful (and possibly truthful) answer... as she is a precocious child.
And no, the cats have never knocked down the tree, but have made it 'lean' a little and definitely have pulled strings of lights off. We're very careful about covering the tree water as it can be dangerous for them to drink.

  3. Look forward to photos of your cats hanging in the tree. :) I don't even want to talk about Audrey's plans. Keep on dancing...

    1. There will be photos... and I'm sure you will have some too. And yes, we all need to 'hang in there'.

  4. At least the election is over, and the tone the President-elect is taking has become more conciliatory than during the campaign. Perhaps we'll see more of that. As your neighbour to the North, I think we in Canada are certainly hoping so.

How on earth can it possibly be only 6 weeks until Christmas? I'm seeing Christmas movies on television, the stores are full of seasonal items, and yards are getting decorated around me. I feel like my two weeks of vacation brought me back a month later than planned. :p

Ending the post with the cats is 'purrfect'....how can anyone not smile looking at those sweet faces?

    Have a great week!

    1. Eileen, so glad you enjoyed your vacation. As for Christmas, it will come whether we're ready or not.

  5. I will echo Eileen in the hope that cooler heads will prevail now and that the tone will become conciliatory going forward, not just for "15 minutes". What will be, will be. Best any of us can do is try to leave our own little corner of the world a better, more loving, tolerant and compassionate place. Or at least try to do as little harm as possible.

Rose continues to amaze me -- she must have good genes. :-)

As for Christmas...Friends came up today and helped me string my lights around the shrub by my front step (it's a huge shrub), but I admit I don't have any holiday spirit yet at all. It's early days still, though.

Take care, have a *good* week.

    1. Rose is definitely a trooper, Kim. Didn't think she'd make another Christmas, but by golly, if she continues as she is, she will.

  6. One of the reasons I might wait for getting a cat, I know some can try to murder the christmas tree

  8. It's so good to have my friends in the blog universe to help me through these dark days. I'm thinking of an old proverb that says "it's an ill wind that blows nobody good," and there may be many silver linings in the days and years ahead. I'm sending you and your coterie of cats my love. :-)

    1. We'll get through this, DJan. I believe in being watchful... but I don't find predictions of doom and gloom helpful. We're all upset (or at least 50% of us), but we've got to find a way to somehow make it work.

  9. Lucky you having a tree that will survive cats. Maybe it is because it is so big. I gave up when my cats sent my smaller tree crashing to the floor several times. It was fun seeing your cats looking so comfortable and secure. It was a bit contagious, thank you.

    1. The size of the tree probably does make a difference. And we get so much enjoyment at watching them with it, that it's worth it. It's a good thing we don't worry about Christmas House Decor!

  10. Even though the president elect was not the choice for half the country, we must stay united and not let the country fall apart.
At least you'll have a great time with your cats and the family.
