Twas the day after Christmas...

Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house...

there's wrappings, and ribbons, and an occasional toy mouse!

Well, this is what it looks like at our house anyway. The cats got their toys early Christmas morning and then were delegated to the bedroom to spend the day as the cooking and cleaning commenced and family arrived to celebrate. The cats were however very duly compensated for this inconvenience with liberal helpings of smoked turkey. (Outside ferals were also treated to this Christmas special!)

The menu consisted of Smoked Turkey (compliments of DH), bourbon sweet potatoes, Jalapena' Pecan Stuffing, broccoli-cauliflower casserole, salad, and rolls... not to mention DH's mile-high cheesecake and our family's traditional cookie crust pudding! My challenge is always not to get it all cooked, but to get it cooked and still hot onto the table. I think I may have accomplished this better this year.

All in all, we had a good time together... and enjoyed watching youngest grand daughter open her gifts. At one point, the bubble wrap around one of the gifts proved ample entertainment (for her as well as us) as she stomped and stomped on it to hear it pop! I had planned to take pictures, but got so involved with the serving, talking, and entertaining that I completely forgot. So... as you can see... no Christmas pics for Christmas day (unless someone else there took some that I'm not aware of).

My daughter down in the Hill country (who was here last week with her family) did send what she is considering a Christmas pic (even though she didn't have it in time for Christmas cards). I'm posting this one as it's really cute and it's all I have to post at the moment.

Oldest grand daughter

So... amidst all the tinsel and glamor of the holidays, I think we were able to enjoy what Christmas is all about... the coming together of family in peace and love. Whether you lean towards a totally religious experience or a more secular one... it can still accomplish the desired effect as long as peace and love are involved. Families coming together  is what the birth of Jesus personifies... a spark of divine love in a world that needed it... and still needs it. I know this isn't exactly how we were taught in religion growing up, but it makes sense to me. And it's certainly no epiphany - just a slip of the keys between my mind and fingers.

Merry Christmas (the day after)!  And sending peace and love out to all of my fellow bloggers! If I don't get back here to blog again before the weekend, Happy New Year to All!

I wish you all a Safe Happy 2017!

    1. Thanks, Linda. Happy holidays to you and yours too. DH smokes the turkey in a smoker out back... I've never tried to do it myself.

  2. Wow, a veritable feast! Yum! We're glad the cats got some turkey too. :-)

Yes, this world still needs a spark of divine love, perhaps now more than ever. Well put.

    Happy holidays!

  3. Such a nice post. I enjoyed every word. There were just the two of us for Christmas this year, and we still got up Christmas morning to boxes, paper, and ribbons covering the coffee table. Certainly not the mess we have though when all the family is here. Your meal sounds delicious. Our kitties are enjoying the leftover turkey too. Happy New Year!

  5. It's what Christmas is all about, to me: family and friends celebrating together. My family is scattered everywhere, but I know where I can go for a good Christmas dinner now! Your place. Happy holidays to you, too. :-)

    1. It is what it's all about, DJan. Families are generally scattered these days, but it's nice when they can occasionally get together. And with technology these days, we can share even when we're not there... through Facebook or Skype, right?

  8. You are absolutely right about a time for family and love. I'm sure your kitties (and extended kitty family) loved their smoked turkey treats. Our Sampson (who spent the entire day outdoors by choice) showed up on the window sill just as dinner was being eaten and then shamelessly walked around hoping someone would "drop" some turkey on the floor. -Jenn

    1. Yes, well... that's one of the reasons ours are sent to the bedroom as they would definitely find themselves a seat at the table if allowed. They do love their turkey.

  9. Sounds like you (and everyone else) had a wonderful day! Nothing better than being with family, enjoying your time together with laughter, love and great food.

I chuckled when I read your comment about getting the food to the table hot. It is something my mother look easy and I have yet to master. Perhaps there is hope for me yet.

All the best to you and yours in 2017!

    1. Thanks, Eileen. We generally have a hold up while waiting for the rolls to bake... but I think everything arrived hot to the table this time. Wishing you a wonderful 2017!
