It's snowing!

It IS snowing today, but THIS is an old picture of our house in snow.

I don't expect it will snow this much anyway. In fact, I think they are surprised that it is snowing at all... (we were just supposed to get a few flurries) but it started about an hour ago and is still coming down. I won't go outside to take a picture as the feral cats are either all huddled up under the heat lamps on the back porch.... (it's about 21 F)

OR... they're snuggled up together in the bed in the box on the front porch...

So I don't dare open any doors to take a picture... as the ferals would all run off into the cold.

We did take down all the Christmas decorations this week. I think it's kind of sad... I like the Christmas clutter. This is what my table looks like when I collect all the Christmas stuff together before putting it away.

Having written the previous portion of this post yesterday (Friday), I'm continuing it today. The snow has stopped, but since it's still in the low 20's, the flurries that did stick still remain white on the ground. Feral cats water dishes are frozen solid and have to be continuously thawed. But the sun is beginning to shine, so hopefully all remaining snow will be gone by afternoon.

I did make DH and I a Dutch Baby Pancake this morning. I've probably posted a pic of it before, but can't remember. It's kind of a combination of pancake and custard pie... and it's served with butter, powdered sugar, and lemon.

They usually rise really high in the oven and then flatten out after you take them out. This particular one for whatever reason didn't flatten out... but stayed rather high?? It tastes the same... which was good!

I'm continuing to watch "Pie in the Sky" on DVD. May go from there to "Downton Abbey" DVD's if the winter weather keeps me inside. But I'm not a total couch potato as I do jump up ever so often and throw in a load of wash or continue my scrubbing soap scum off the showers with my new hurricane spin scrubber. It really does work well!

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend! Stay warm!

  1. The feral's are lucky to have that much warmth at your home! Christmas is down here but it's cold so just hanging out at home ready to start a new book.

    1. These cold days of winter are perfect for reading, or quilting, cooking, etc.
... and hopefully done by a roaring fireplace with a cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate, etc.

  2. I hope your snow does disappear this afternoon, even though it's only a bit. Still difficult to cope with when it's not your typical climate! BTW, how fabulous the ferals have heat lamps! Wow, they're spoiled. :-)

I like the Christmas clutter too, though admittedly I don't have much in the way of decorations anymore, I decluttered the decorations a couple of years ago. I ended up taking my tree down on Boxing Day this year, early, because I started moving furniture around in the living area and I wanted to see what would work best in the corner. I wish I'd left it up a bit longer though, it was cheery and cosy. Now, however, it's not dark so early anymore, so it's all good.

Take care, have a great weekend.

    1. I think the Christmas clutter is cozy too. Really miss the tree! And the little snow we had is still around despite the sunshine... guess it never got above freezing.

  3. Well aren't you nice to put heat lamps out for your cats. We were only supposed to get a dusting but we actually got a couple of inches which delights my inner child.

    1. We weren't supposed to get more than a flurry, but we got a little more - not enough to cover the ground, but to give everything a dusting of white.

  4. That's a wonderful pancake!
We put Christmas away last week. It felt as good as putting it up.

    1. It really is a good pancake. Sometimes we even have it for supper.
As for Christmas, I could have kept it around a bit longer.

    1. Olga, you would be surprised how good it is. Even using lemon and powdered sugar sounds strange, but tastes wonderful.

  6. Oh my, that is quite cold weather for you (and the ferals). They are fortunate to have the heat lamps and boxes to stay warm. We had -24C (-11F) this morning, and it is expected to get colder still. I soooo hate winter. I hope your weather improves very soon....

The Dutch pancake looks delicious! I haven't had dinner yet...perhaps eggs and pancakes.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. We finished Downton Abbey last year. We loved it all but I still wished Dan Stevens didn't quit on the series

  8. What a nice thing to do for the feral cats. Our baby chicks, in fact all the chickens, are enjoying having a heat lamp in the old hen house during this cold weather. It is miserable outside. 9 degrees tonight! We don't normally get this cold here in NC.

    1. Just be careful with the heat lamp in the hen house. We knew someone where the bulb fell out and caught the hen house on fire. Scary thought.

  9. I like the look of that pie, maybe you could post the recipe.
