First watercolor class... and a family get-together

Last Friday was my first watercolor class. I was apprehensive about it, but as it turns out, I'm only one of about 6 beginners in a class of... maybe 15.  Of course all we did is go over the supply list and schedule... and then our instructor did a short lecture and a demo so we would be able to start our first assignments.

It involves getting acquainted with the colors and how they are used (basic color versus tints, shades, and non-bias colors). I actually found it very interesting and both the instructor and the people very much to my liking. Should be a fun class! (at least this was my first impression)

I haven't bought any supplies yet... so there's nothing to show as far as work is concerned.  Maybe next week.

Also my oldest grandson graduated from high school Saturday... so proud of him. He is joining the U.S. Air Force, has already signed up, and will be starting boot camp in a few weeks. The family all went to the graduation ceremony and then back to the house to party. It is so seldom that we get the whole immediate family together in one place that it was a weekend I will always remember.

It is extremely difficult to get everyone in one place to take a photo. We were so concerned with keeping youngest granddaughter sitting long enough to take a few shots that I didn't even realize that youngest grandson must have gone upstairs. But we found him in time to take one of me and all 4 grandkids!

That's about it for my week... except our bell peppers are growing with leaps and bounds!

Oh, and DH and I rented "The Shack" yesterday. It was good... not exactly what I expected, but good. Have a great week!

  1. The Air Force would've been what I would chosen, if I had to enlist. Luckily for me, that never became so. I would of not been a good fit for any branch of the military in the long-run.

But I do wish your grandson the best of luck. I hope he enjoys it.

  2. oh so young to go into the armed forces; your family photo looks so wonderful; watercolor I have always wanted to try it but always think about all the running colors, looking forward to seeing your work; I thought about you and your quilts the other day, because I have all that material left over from the driftwood sailboats and half thought about making a quilted table runner, but only so much time; your bell peppers look so good, my hot peppers something came and ate all the lower leaves off of them and only two peppers so far; we shall see.

    1. You should use your leftover fabric and make the quilted table runner, Linda. It will always remind you of your driftwood sailboats and I like having things either I made or someone made for me around. I have 2 quilts finished and at my friends (who does the binding for me... as I suck at it).

  3. My son went into the AirForce at age 18 and left a few years later to be an Air Traffic Controller. It gives them a wonderful purpose in life and good training. Good luck to him.

    1. I love that pic too, DJan. It's one of the few that I have of all 4 of them with me at the same time. And I am proud of my grandson for his decision. It scares me a bit, but proud just the same.

  5. Family love and great photos. I'm excited for you and your watercolor class. I hope to get back to painting some soon. Too much moving and events this past month. Time to slow down a bit.

  6. Kudos for rounding them all up. I know from my own family gatherings, that can be hard. Such a good looking family--be proud and especially so of your grandson who is willing to serve.

    1. It is difficult to get them to stand all together in one place... even for a short time. And yes, I'm especially proud of my grandson.

  8. You do have a nice looking family. The Air Force is a good branch of the Military to go into. My son-in-law recently retired from the AF. He was an F15 Pilot. Those bell peppers are amazing! The few in my garden are very small.

  9. Congrats to your grandson! It's an exciting time, finishing high school and entering into the world of adulthood.

Glad you were all able to get together. It does get harder as time passes.
