memories and sweet tea...

I guess I will have to eventually change this *picture heading* which still includes Molly, but perhaps I'll wait a bit... not quite ready to let go, I guess. The other day I was giving out treats, and found myself going into the bedroom to look for Molly on the bed (then I remembered...). I know this is normal. Goodness knows, we have gone through it before.

The weatherman is forecasting 105-108 F days this weekend... and into Monday. Hard to believe - well, maybe not, it IS August in Texas. DH made a batch of sweet tea today. He makes wonderful sweet tea. The kids as well as our friends always want him to make it the minute it gets hot. And I have to admit that his Iced Sweet Tea on a hot day is a great thirst quencher!

I found a recipe in Taste of the South for a Frozen Peach Ice-Box Pie. And since I had just bought fresh peaches last week and they were getting too ripe, I decided to make it today. It's in the freezer now. We shall do the taste-testing after 4 with our coffee (or tea). Will take a photo and let you know.

We did taste it and... it's a keeper! Will make this again...

The days are too hot to go outside, so basically if I'm not reading, cooking, or cleaning, I'm probably quilting. Here a few pics of the 2 quilts I'm working on now. The first one is the pastel quilt that I posted before, but now it has it's borders.. but no batting or quilting as yet.

The next is called "winter" and so far I've only pieced it, no borders yet... but the fabric on the side is what I plan to use as borders.

And just because... I'm adding a picture of the quilt my friend made me last year. I've posted it before too, but I love it so... so I'm posting it again. I call it my bunny quilt.

Can you see all the little bunnies in the actual quilting? You may have to enlarge the picture to see them well.

So... another snippet. (I wish I had some pretty outside pics - like flowers or vegetable gardens, but no luck - even my hanging baskets are showing signs of heat stroke).

  1. You always make the best pies. I'd eat half in one go, and half in another. LOL.

I remember the first time I was in the States and got an iced tea...gross! Here iced tea is automatically sweet, I didn't realize then (decades ago) that you have to ask for your iced tea to be sweetened when in the U.S.

As for Molly and going through this before: I really don't think it matters how many times you have to cope with the loss of a four-legged family member. Each is/was an individual and the grieving process is different for each.

    Hugs and peace.

    1. Kim, DH really makes great iced sweet tea... lots of sugar, lemon, and a hint of spearmint! We always grow spearmint since he makes his tea year-round. But I'm a tea and coffee lover... will drink either hot or cold... even like Iced Coffee!

  2. I don't think there is any hurry to change your header, it's nice to see Molly still there. And I did enlarge that picture to see all the bunnies! Glad I'm not around to agonize over whether or not to eat some of that pie, because I would, and then I'd be sorry! :-)

    1. It is nice to see Molly up there... so I will wait a bit. And as for the bunny quilt, my friend asked how I would like to have it quilted - and I thought "bunnies" would be fun. Oh, believe me, DJan, the pie isn't "agonizing"... it's cool and fresh and delicious! I plan to make it again the next time we get together with the kids.

  3. Twenty years is a long time; I'd still look about for her, too.
The pie looks and sounds grand.

  4. I was also surprised by the iced tea in the States....I'm sure I'd like the tea your husband makes much better. That pie looks fantastic...do you know I've never eaten peach pie in my life...I'm obviously missing out.

No hurry to change the header, seeing her there is a sweet reminder of the kitty who shared your life (and heart) for so long. While I didn't start blogging until after Silver, Shady and Silas left us I do have pictures of them in my home for the same reason.

    1. Well, if you're fond of fresh peaches, and home-made peach ice-cream - you would love this pie!

  5. OOOoo, that peach pie looks so good. I never acquired a taste for sweet tea--a concept that my Georgia-born step grandchildren cannot fathom at all. Your quilts are beautiful. I went off my quilting during our heat spell--no air conditioning here so the preferred activity is go to the lake or to the mall. However, VT August weather is here now. It may still be warm during the daytimes, but nights turn blissfully cool.

    1. Olga, like anything else... tea or coffee can be really good or really bad. Good home-made sweet tea with lemon and spearmint is wonderful (IMO of course). As for the quilting break - I can't imagine wanting to do anything in the heat without A/C. Good to hear that VT is cool at night!

  6. Hello Rian, I think you've just lost a long-time kitty friend - my sympathies. Whenever I've lost a pet friend, I've looked for them in their accustomed places a long time. That pie looks amazing - wish it was in MY freezer! Your quilts are beautiful - I like the winter one, especially fitting where I live!

  7. Thanks for visiting, Barb. I imagine I will continue to look for Molly in her accustomed places for a while. And the pie is amazing. Perfect for this hot hot weather!

  8. Thanks for stopping by the Musings blog and for the comment and good thoughts. I don't know why, but I've stopped getting your comments in my Gmail -- I have the blog set up so that I get a copy of the comments in my "in" box, but yours don't come through any more. Bizarre.

If there's more peach pie on the menu this weekend, I might have to teleport over. :-)

    Take care,

    Kim

    1. Kim, I have no idea why my comments don't go through to your gmail. As far as I know, I haven't changed anything. As for the pie, it would be worth the teleporting...

    1. Oh, I understand, Linda. Sometimes I can't decide what I want to do... work on my pottery or my quilts? But since I don't have a wheel at home, it's usually the quilting that wins out. And yes, it's too darn hot. I heard someone (not a weatherman) say that it was 116 F in Phoenix yesterday... can you believe?
