Catching up with Christmas...

tree decorated

Ghost under decorated tree

as I got closer...

Well, the tree is up and decorated, the mantle has it's garland, and I started baking Christmas cookies and whiskey balls today...

Christmas tea cakes

whiskey balls  - DH's favorite

And I also made a big batch of African Chicken Peanut soup today!

So-oo good!

And as I cooked and baked, DH watched football and the cats enjoyed the warmth of the Aga. I've gotten use to cooking 'over' them in the kitchen...

keeping warm...

And regarding feral cats, I have to mention this. One of our neighbors wrote on our neighborhood association watch (which goes through our cell phones) that he had recently put out a box with a cat bed in it for the neighborhood ferals - to help with the cold. He called it his *feral B&B*.

Several others commented on how nice this was... and so far, no negative comments. (I wanted to say that I've been doing this for years along with heat lamps and straw on the back patio - but don't want to rock the boat) So happy that there are a few around that feel the need to help these homeless critters. So we silently joined his B&B idea and added a box and bed on the front porch. As you can see, it has occupants already.

And I will post this sign again... as it really makes a point:

Have a wonderful week!

  2. I think I mentioned this here once, but Styrofoam picnic coolers make good outdoor shelters, with or without the cover. My friend who does this for her Wisconsin ferals cuts a door and leaves the lid on for warmth.

    1. Yes, Joanne, you did mention this... and someone else did also. The insulation probably is a good idea.

    1. DJan, I hope you are feeling better. And it's wonderful to know that others think it's important to do what we can (even though it's never enough).

  4. Lovely Christmas tree. I use ribbon on ours as well. My father made a wooden outdoor house for our cats when I was little and he lined it with Styrofoam. Extremely warm for them. -Jenn

Your tree is lovely and oh, those cookies! Yum!

I'm glad there are other neighbours who are helping out; good karma for you and for all those who ARE making an effort.

    1. I think it's a great idea that could catch on... but fear the backlash so won't push it. Hopefully more will do it and not make a big deal of it. That way the feral cats will be warm and the nay sayers won't nix it.

  8. We don't have too many feral cats around here, which is good. I hate to have them out in the cold

  10. The tree is lovely and the treats look delish (as does the soup...is there anything better in cold weather?)

So glad to hear your neighbour is joining the movement to care for the ferals. Definitely that last photo is intense.
