weekend report...

feral sitting on front porch in early morning sunlight - taken by our nest camera

Hi everyone! It's Saturday and I should be at the pottery studio. However, I awoke this morning a bit dizzy and headachy... so I plan to go in later this afternoon. We need to bring the cats for their annual vacs around noon, so hopefully I will feel up to going in to the studio later.

Took my blood pressure to see if maybe that had anything to do with how I felt. It was low... but low normal (124/59).  I also took a Tylenol x-strength. Feeling a little better, but not quite up to par.

Getting older definitely brings on strange ailments... more inconvenient than serious.  I wake up with backache and joints aching on occasion, and have a chronic cough (for the last 19 years since breast cancer radiation) that seems to be getting a bit worse (I cough a lot in the morning and right after eating or drinking). But nothing I haven't been able to handle.

We've had a lot of rain and severe weather recently... but this weekend looks like it might be sunny. I hope so. DH and I took our youngest grand daughter to the park last Sunday. It was muddy from all the rain, but we had a nice walk and she got to play on the playground for a bit.

Now it's Sunday morning and I'm in the process of making some home-made nutty granola for our daughter who just had a birthday last week.  Sending two of her favorites, granola and coffee shortbread cookies to have with her coffee. Usually these don't make it home from her work as she tends to share with office mates.

And yes, I do feel better today. Don't know what it was yesterday, but whatever it was hung around the whole day...  I'm attributing it to the strange happenings of 'age'.  But I never did make it to the pottery studio yesterday - only one session left this spring season anyway and summer sessions start in June.

Oh... wanted to mention this. My daughter introduced me to 'pop sockets'?  I didn't know what this was... but now have one on my iPhone and bought one for my friend's. It's pretty convenient - not only for holding your phone in your hand, but also for mounting it and easily seeing the screen from any angle. I have it sitting here beside the computer now. If you don't know what they are... just google it. They run from $4.99 - $9.99. (And it allows your phone to lie flat or be mounted up as needed)

Now... back to my granola.  Have a great Sunday and thanks for dropping by!

Hugs,
Rian

  1. You are so right about this blooming aging thing. I actually spent all day yesterday sleeping on the sofa, I was just so tired. Today I am fine and have been out to a car boot after topping up with pain killers to get the hip around, lol
We have both decided just to roll with it. When we feel like doing nothing, do nothing. lol
Love the feral sitting in the sunshine, ours are happier now that the door is open and they can get out into the garden.

    1. That is the good thing about retirement, Briony, when those days pop up when we feel our age, we have the time to give in to it. Most of the time, it doesn't last too long. I too liked the shot of the feral sitting on the front step in the sun...

  2. I'm glad you're feeling better. And yes, this getting old business is filled with twists and turns. So many things could go wrong, but usually we right ourselves. Happy granola making! :-)

    1. Thanks, DJan. These moments make us stop and realize that age is gradually catching up with us.

  3. Glad you are feeling better - maybe it was low blood sugar or a touch of the flu, in any event I'm happy that it passed quickly.

I'd never heard of pop sockets so had to Google it. Definitely a good idea to keep the phone handy when one is doing something else.

    1. Who knows what it was, but luckily it passed. And I do find the pop socket very handy.

  4. Yes, I got one a while back...pop socket, but took it off as I added a new stronger magnet to the car. Anyway, it is a younger generation thing. I do not like feral cats and hope there is some program to sterilize them.

    1. I haven't used the pop socket in the car... guess because my iPhone is set not to let me get any calls while driving... and the new car has it's own phone (and I've yet to use it). But I like setting the phone up on it's side while I'm working on something - just easier to see. As for the feral cats, lots of people don't care for them - and there are programs out there to have them fixed. We used to be able to catch them in hav-a-hart cages, bring them to be vaccinated, fixed, and released. We're getting too old or they're getting too smart for us these days. But they are homeless and still need help.

  5. My cat avoids paper bags, cardboard boxes. He's not a cat for getting into things.

    1. I had one that avoided plastic bags, but cardboard boxes?... most of our cats will try to fit into any box anytime.

  7. I'm just seeing this post. The cat in the sunshine sure made a pretty picture and I love seeing Tux in the suitcase. Aren't cats sweet. You have a pretty little granddaughter. You write the nicest posts.
