a little kindness...

I didn't have a subject that I wanted to write about today, but I was recently looking at some of our backyard feral pics and decided that perhaps I'd share them with you (some you may have seen before).

These are the ones who frequent our back yard. Most come in from the creek through what we call the 'rabbit hole'...

Then there are those who jump the back fence (coyotes and bobcats)....  these although less welcome due to their aggressive nature, still show up on occasion.

This one was pictured and video taped this past week.

He's a pretty handsome specimen.

And then of course I couldn't close without a picture of our Ghost:

... and miracle of miracles, in this one she doesn't have that really mad expression (like below).

Hope all of you have a wonderful rest of the week!

Hugs,
Rian

Oh, I forgot... here's a pic of the banana nut bread I made Sunday:

great recipe from King Arthur cookbook!

  1. You have quite the critter haven there. I'm sure you lose a few to the coyotes and bobcats. Sigh, as much as it hurts my heart I know it is the way of nature.

    Take care and stay well!

    1. We do lose some to coyotes and bobcats, Mae... and it does hurt, but you are right, it is the way of nature.

  2. Those are some sweet critters who grace your backyard. And thanks for the two of Ghost, who has a corner on grumpy faces! :-)

    1. DJan, they come to get a little food, water, and sanctuary - and as far as we see, they do no harm. In fact, the feral cats keep the back rat free and the possums eat a lot of the nasty bugs... as do the box turtles.

  3. My daughter once adopted a bird that fell from the nest, not too long after hatching. We had a spare bird cage. I explained baby birds ate pretty much round the clock. She lasted about three days, and then took the kid to an animal sanctuary near us. She even took the bird to work, to feed on call.

    1. We've done the baby bird thing too... and when I was working for a vet hospital, I carried around newborn kittens in my pockets and fed them when they cried.

  4. I know I've told you before, but that first cat you pictured looks so much like our Scooter (except before he lost his tail). I'll have to put a picture in my blog so you can see. :) -Jenn

  5. That banana bread looks good. I make it pretty often. My recipe has orange juice and orange zest added------really adds a nice little tangy flavor.

    1. This recipe is really good, Vic. It has sour cream in it which makes it very moist. But I will have to try the orange juice!

  6. What delightful visitors you have. Kind of hard when nature is being nature but I always try to remember that even coyotes and bob cats have young somewhere to feed.
Loved the picture of the black cat that if it weren't for his eyes, you wouldn't see him. Nice catch.

    1. Our visitors are usually no trouble... and they give us lots of entertainment. Occasionally we have to use the air horn to chase a coyote out of the yard... but that's about it.

  7. You have me drooling with that delicious looking bread!! And ALL your kitties are so precious. You KNOW by now I love cats. Even that very handsome bobcat. And the 'possum, the raccoons...terrific. (oh and one more thing...whiskey sauce on bread pudding...I'm still drooling)

  8. All those cats are really pretty, and the other animals too. I've never seen a Bobcat before. Not in person. He is beautiful. Ghost is so big and puffy and cuddly looking, and has the cutest expressions. We are just finishing up a loaf of banana nut bread I made.

    1. We see most of these critters pretty often. Some neighbors don't like it. We do. Even though we don't have acreage, we live on a creek with a greenback... so it makes it a little less suburban.

    1. Linda, I think everyone has been 'a little sad' lately... talked to the ladies from my pottery class by zoom this morning and they too are getting a little depressed. As you can see from my post I wrote yesterday, I've been feeling the same. But... we just have to adjust our minds to this situation (I know - easier said than done).
