the day after Christmas... 2021

Merry Christmas (the day after)

Even though we had a quiet Christmas, there was much to do with cooking, baking, putting gifts together, etc.  Spoke and texted back and forth with kids, family, friends, etc. during the day and had coffee and rum cake with youngest son and his family in the evening... and exchanged a few presents.  All in all, a good day!

We did get both our AGA fixed and the Breville toaster oven fryer delivered before Christmas... so we were in good shape. I have tried the new toaster oven for toast, begals, and pizza... works fine. Haven't tried to actually cook in it (made our roast in the AGA Christmas day). But curious to see how it air frys... not something I'm familiar with as we never fry foods here. If anyone has any comments concerning air frying, I'm happy to hear them.

And I'm going to add a few of our granddaughter's 9 year old pics.... (which were taken recently and just sent to us)

I find it so hard to believe she's growing up so fast...

Since I haven't posted this yet... and it's already Monday afternoon, I will report that I had the CT Scan of my heart done this morning. Haven't gotten the results yet... but it all went well. I did feel a bit shaky after the procedure, but think it was due to the nitroglycerin they give you during the test.

I've had the iodine contrast before in other CT's and outside of the flush of heat after administering, that has never bothered me. The nitroglycerin that is put under your tongue gave me a slight headache... and possibly the shaky feeling after...  Hopefully I will get the results in the next few days.

Tuesday morning: Got the basic results this morning, both on my health portal and by phone from the Cardiologist's office. My CT apparently was all good... no blockages, etc. The doctor will go over it all and explain at my next appointment in 2 weeks. He is sending the results to my family physician. All sounds good to me... guessing the episodes of heart pounding and high bp  I have sometimes in the early morning are due to the valve leakage and the pvc's  -  and are all a part of 'old age'...

Closing this now as it's turned into a 3 day post. Want to mention that with the numbers of cases due to omicron rising, our son made us promise that when we went to the hospital for testing, that we wear all our personal protection equipment (mask, gloves, face shield) which we did... and although it seemed a bit of an overkill, the hospital personnel told us it was a very good idea.

Really closing now:  Happy New Year 2022 to all of you!  Hopefully it will be better than the last 2... but I'm honestly not too optimistic about that. Still... best wishes for a happy healthy 2022!

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. Granddaughter is indeed growing up fast, but she looks to be a lovely person. That smile is infectious. And congratulations on the good news about your heart issues! Going into any hospital for anything these days is best done with overkill, I agree. Stay well, dear friend, and I wish us all a better new year! :-)

    1. She is something else, DJan. Keeps us all on our toes. As for the heart issues, I'm taking it as all good... and just an age issue... unless he tells me otherwise at my next appointment.

  2. Lovely photos, and am glad that your Christmas was good and even gladder that the heart results seem fine as well.
I have himself an airfryer a while ago. He loves it, and fries things more often than he used to. Crisp, no fat to speak of and an easy clean up. Win/win.
And here's to a healthy, happy, hopeful New Year for us all.

    1. We haven't tried the air fry function yet... but will soon. Think I will start with french fries (something I like, but never make).

  3. Rian, that's good news regarding your health concerns, I had to read that twice to let it all sink in! I'm glad you had a nice Christmas, your rum cakes look very tasty and your granddaughter is very pretty! I love her eyeglasses and all the confidence I see in those photos. You have much to be proud of. Hope you and your family have a Happy New Year. 🙂👍🥂🎊

    1. Dug, my rum cakes are a Christmas tradition here... and grandson was appalled at the prospect of not having them when our stove went out. Luckily it was fixed in time for Christmas. As for our youngest granddaughter, she wears glasses, has a hearing aid, and up to a few weeks ago wore braces... but none of that stops her. She is a force to be reckoned with.
She just left as she was over here today learning to play a Nintendo switch Animal Crossing game we gave her for Christmas. It's pretty involved, but really fun... and she caught on to the concept faster than I did when I started playing a year ago. Kids today are so electronically tuned in, it amazes me.

here in new jersey, new cases of covid are averaging around 15,000 per day. deaths are up considerably. i went to the doctors for an unrelated problem and i head the doctor talking on the phone in the hallway. he was making an appointment/could you please squeeze me in for a covid test. i thought, oh great, is it in my future again??!!

    1. Oh, Debbie... hopefully your doctor will get a negative result. It may well be that with this 4th wave (omicron) that we will be back to square one... except hopefully not as many deaths??

    1. Thanks, Kim. Wishing you and Derry a happy 2022 also. It may be that we are all destined to get Covid eventually... even vaccinated, but hopefully our immune systems will be armed enough to prevent us from hospitalization and/or death. My oldest son feels it's not a matter of if, but when. But we will continue to take precautions and use all the PPE's available.

  7. Agree with Doug. Your granddaughter is not only a cutie but you can tell she has good self esteem. Almost modelesque.
Congrats on the good results on the tests. Yes, overkill is smart these days. What say that we have a terrific New Year for a change.

    1. I do hope 2022 is good, Patti. Reminds me of a song I once heard that starts with, "Lord, I hope this day is good..." (think by Don Williams). But I have a feeling that we are going to go from one mutation to another for awhile until this virus wears itself out.. or there's no one left to infect. We were warned about this possibility years ago, but seems like we're never prepared 'enough' (think it's going to be the same with Climate change). But still wishing you a happy healthy 2022!

  8. It sounds like you had a very nice Christmas with lots of good food and just good company too.
Your granddaughter's photos are lovely. They do have a bad habit of growing up. I think we notice it more with grandchildren than our own children because we don't see them as often.
Glad too, to hear your scan went well! Take care, stay well. All the best in 2022 to you and yours.
