Jan. 20, 2023 - 55th Wedding Anniversary memories...

I look like a deer in the headlights...

off to our honeymoon...
(2 days in French Quarter before Graduation from LSUBR)

So strange to think this was 55 years ago. We were both 22. Now we're 77... and (with the grace of God) still here. (DH was in Electrical Engineering and I was in Animal Science - LSU didn't have a Veterinary program back then).

We have 3 beautiful children who we love dearly and who (along with our grandchildren) mean the world to us. They are all such good people that it amazes me how lucky we are.

our 3 in 1974...

a few years later...

These are all old pics... Kids are now in late forties and early fifties. Grandkids are 23, 21, 15, and 10...   (but I still dream of our kids as children... wonder if other mothers do that too?)

Not going any further into this trip down memory lane. They say you get nostalgic as you get older. I think this may be true. But to all you adults out there who still have your parents... know that you'll always be that 'baby' to them - that child that taught them a new  unconditional kind of love.

It's Friday - have a wonderful weekend!

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. A very, very happy Anniversary to you both. 55 years together is something to be proud of, grateful for - and to celebrate. And yes, I remained a child to my parents until the end of their days.

    1. Thank you, EC. Your child is your child... no matter how old they are.

  2. Rian, this was great! I love old photos (well, in the 20th century) and these are wonderful. First of all big congratulations on 55 years, that's impressive! You and DH were a very attractive couple, your dress and cake were pretty magnificent but I am loving that hat on the way to your honeymoon, you were pretty mod! Twiggy had nothing on you. 😉 Love seeing your kids too, a good looking bunch. Again, congratulations on your milestone.

    1. Thanks, Dug. But the wedding was all my mom. I was in college and in exams, she planned it all - including the hat! That was fine with me. The reason I look like a deer in the headlights in that first pic is because they kept giving me champagne on an empty stomach.... but I will admit, it was fun and I do look back on it fondly.

  3. I often think of my deceased son Chris and sometimes think I hear his laughter. He doesn't really feel all that far away... :-)

  4. Congratulations on your 55th anniversary! I hope you both celebrated with something special, that's an occasion that certainly deserves to be marked.

I'm almost 59, Mom is 82...and yes, I'm still her "baby." I usually make a face when she says that, though. LOL.

  5. Happy Anniversary! Love the photos and like Dug, the going-away hat is priceless. Your mother had incredible taste.
I would suggest your children have grown into wonderful adults because of their parents love and support.

    1. My mom did have good taste and was very social (me - not so much). And Mae, I'm eternally grateful that our kids turned out the way they did. You hear so many scary stories...

    1. Thank you. We were so very young and naive... but it all turned out well. Your daughter will always be your child... regardless of age... and her children will make their special place in your heart.
