Since I haven't posted since May 9th, I thought I should give a heads up... not that anything interesting is going on. But I haven't felt well in the last week... just extremely tired, a little light-headed (felt faint 3 times which is really unusual for me).
My B-12 is normally low to low normal, as is my D-3. I take D-3 daily (for the most part - sometimes I forget). And I used to take a B-12 injection once a month. But since my eye issues, I've neglected to take them for the last 8 months. So I got a B-12 injection this past week. It's been 3 days, has it made a difference? I can't tell... maybe not as tired. But my bp has been pretty low... 80/59 on some readings. It usually goes up to 110/63 or so later, so I generally don't worry about it.
But something strange happened the other night. It was 80/59 at 9pm, and then jumped to 165/90 by 10pm... and all I did was go to bed and was reading... when suddenly I felt weird... so thinking my bp was getting lower, I got up and took it. Instead it had risen to 165/90??? So DH and I sat up until 1:00 am checking it every 15-30 minutes to make sure it didn't go higher. It didn't... and by midnight, it was back to normal. Why the sudden jump? I have no idea.
Saw the doctor (actually my Nurse Practitioner that I really like) the next day and she ran a UA and a Blood-test. Both were pretty normal except for my MCHC is low... but only borderline low. This could be due to Iron deficiency or my low B-12 levels. My NP is concerned that I don't eat enough (I don't eat much red meat, but I do eat chicken and salmon). Granted I don't eat a lot... but I think I eat healthy. My weight stays within 5 lbs one way or the other from 120... and at 5'4, I think that's pretty normal.
And due to the fact that I have migraines, interstitial cystitis, mild IBS - and all of these have food restrictions. Basically I'm gluten-free, lactose free, can't have too much acid (tomato sauce, etc.) for the IC, and no artificial sugars, nitrates, etc. for the migraines. It does cut down on what I eat.
I usually eat oatmeal with blueberries or banana for breakfast with a expresso size cup of coffee. Half an avocado and cheese and crackers for lunch, and a normal supper (meat and veg). I snack on nuts and apples, sometime a small piece of pie or cookie with tea at teatime (3-4pm). That all seems healthy to me??? If I'm hungry anytime day or night, I usually have tea and toast...
OK... that's all probably TMI, but since my followers numbers are small, I don't think I mind sharing. Just hope it wasn't too boring. And truth is, I'm hoping someone out there may have some advice.
As for my eye issue, it's better (I think), still drips tears and aches a bit on occasion, but looks OK. Think it's just adjusting from the 5 surgeries. Hope it will somehow return to normal at some point, but if not, it is what it is.
Will find a few memes to add here and hopefully elevate the mood:
...and going to add this one that my daughter sent me after having a difficult day at work:

Rian

I hope the B12 injection does help! My BP runs high, so I can't offer any suggestions about your sudden jump. That would be quite disconcerting. Your diet seems very healthy to me, not really sure why your np is concerned, unless you don't get enough protein? Gaahh! This business of the body's aging... 😵💫
ReplyDeleteWell, Kim, it's Friday now and either the B-12 is working or whatever bug I had has left... as now I feel like 'me' again... no foggy head, not extremely tired. Hurray! And you are probably right that my NP was concerned that I don't eat enough protein...
DeleteRian something is wrong with Blogger. I just got your new post notice Friday night and it says you posted this yesterday? I'm very sorry, I hope you know you're one of my dearest online friends and I think about you daily. And this was not TMI, it was a bit worrisome but still compelling read. I know you're going thru different things right now and with my long covid I can very much relate. I need to take my vitamin D3 pills too, -and- check my own BP daily. Gosh I'm sorry the eye is still giving you trouble but thank you for sharing and keeping your online friends updated. Big virtual hugs, Doug
ReplyDeleteDug, I agree... and wondered that it was something wrong on my end with Blogger when no one commented. Not that I expect a comment, but guess I usually got one from you (and used to always from DJan). But when you didn't comment, I worried that you were having a bad day... and if there was no comment by Saturday, I was going to email you to check. So, thanks for being there. It was a bit TMI, but kind of wondering if anyone else experiences these weird occurances. Could be all a part of aging... it's silly to say but... "I've never been this old before"... so how should I know? ; (
DeleteSo glad to finally see your post. Blogger is definitely not behaving well...which is worrisome. I always am interested in what you have to say about health situations. Just an intellectual curiosity I hope, not lurking. I have reactions to humidity due to my main "weak system" being my lungs. Just have similar feelings of "not well, very tired" and take naps almost daily. BP is somewhat worrisome here too, and I take some meds to manage it. I also have to check my oxygen levels (with a little finger gauge) often. I take daily high "D" vitamins, but not B-12, which a friend speaks of as a source of energy for her. I have osteoporosis and take Fosamax weekly (when I remember). My diet is not as restricted as yours though. I am glad you were feeling better after you posted this.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for commenting, Barbara. You are about the 3rd person to mention that blogger may be having problems. You say you have a "weak system" being your lungs. Why is that? (just curious) Mine is due to either scarring due to radiation or some nodules (which they are watching). I have one of those oxygen finger gauges too... but even though my MCHC is a bit low, the gauge is always normal. I don't take any meds (except for the D3 and B12), and hope to keep it that way as long as possible... and I do try to eat healthy, but do need to get out and walk more. Take care, my friend.
Deletethat low blood pressure is very concerning to me...i would think it would incapacitate you. i'm glad you went to the doctors, please keep up with those visits. i enjoy hearing from you...you may not think so but i do. i always hope you are well and really enjoy your crafty, painting, cooking side. we have a lot of similar interests. blogger is acting up, i am not sure what the problem is. BUT it is a free service that i enjoy and appreciate very much. take care of yourself, i enjoyed the memes!!
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, my bp is usually low (not as low as lately 80/59), but generally goes up some later. However, I also have 'white coat syndrome'... and if I go to the doctors (or dentist), it jumps up to 170/90 quickly. But I also have some age-related heart valve leakage that the doctor is watching which could be responsible. We'll see.
DeleteI would like to get back to some of my 'crafts'... haven't done much since the eye issue... except cooking. And would really like to get back to knitting or crocheting. Have to find something simple to start again... maybe a simple crochet afghan?
Anyway, thanks for commenting. I really like hearing from you.
have a great weekend!!
DeleteI love the cat memes. 🐈 I made a post on my blog not too long ago about the issues with Blogger. It is very detailed and explains quite extensively about the issues.
ReplyDeleteI was taking B12 pills, but now switched to B Complex because of my vertigo problem. I’ve really been ill too for the last two weeks and I’m hearing from other blogger friends who are also fighting a cold or other ailment right now. Fingers crossed we all get done with this soon.
