Back at it... yoga and pottery

"I meditate, I do Yoga, I chant...
and I still want to smack someone"

This morning I started taking Yoga again!  Used to take it years ago and loved it, but had to quit after surgery made it hard for me to stretch for a while.  And then the problem became finding a time that didn't interfere with my pottery classes.  This year I've done it!  Pottery on MW and Yoga on TTh.  Of course I always end up on the pottery wheel or in the studio 4 - 5 days a week (it's addictive) playing around with the clay in some way or other.

Last class we made Black Birds (need 400 of them - in all stages of flight - for a combined art project).  Think they're going to have this display of a flock somewhere on the campus later in the year. After this we'll split off into our own individual projects. Haven't decided what I'm going to work on yet... but it'll definitely be 'on the wheel' as this is where I need the practice. Hand sculpturing is fun, but wheel work takes time.  So I'm hoping to take the time this year to devote to it.  Have only been at it for 2 years, so as the country and western song goes, "I'm not as good as I'm going to get, but I'm better than I used to be".  The picture here was on a card DH gave me today that he found while waiting at the hospital for me to get some test results.  It was funny AND it looks so much like our cat, Ghost... such a happy face.

And keeping this post on a light note, I'm going to add a simple household picture... nothing important just a little part of my life.  This is one of my favorite cups. I like cups and saucers and have collected a few that I use for tea (or coffee).   Perhaps some of you collect things that for whatever reason... make you happy...  or have a story behind them?

  1. Good for you! I took Yoga classes years ago, felt fabulous when I was going. I still do my favourite stretches, but I'll go in cycles of doing them every day for a few weeks, then stop, then do them again, repeat.

I recall one of the instructors practiced Kripalu Yoga (hope I've spelled that correctly) and I loved it. Slow, gentle, mindful. Unlike the others who were doing power Yoga (in the days before "hot" Yoga). This body doesn't do "power" anything. LOL.

Fingers crossed for your test results, that all turns out well.

Pretty cup and saucer! I don't collect them, but I have a few passed to me from my mom and even one or two from my ex mother-in-law. Hardly ever use them, though.

    1. We do Hatha Yoga... mostly stretching and breathing techniques. My body doesn't do "power" anything either.

As for the cups, I do use them. I use everything... even the good stuff with the kids during the holidays. Things do get broken, but I think they should be 'used'.

  2. I inherited some lovely tea cups and saucers from my mother-in-law. I sometimes display them and sometimes just store them, but I have never actually used them. I think I'll give one a try because I should really drink more tea. The cat picture is too precious.

    1. My dad was from England so we drank/drink tea a lot. Dad met Mom in New Orleans so he learned to appreciate good strong coffee too. So-o I drink 'both'. DH uses a mug, but I prefer a teacup.

  3. So many people have praise for Yoga. Should, should, should attempt it, on a regular basis.

I'm not a collector, so can't weigh in on your question. :-)

What to put in our blogs on a daily basis? An individual reply, sees best...

Whatever I feel like, on that particular day, is my pattern. :-)

    1. As for the Yoga, I am so-oo sore from all the stretching. And Auntie, you don't have to be a collector to have a story. It's just that I look at certain things around the house... and usually it makes me smile as I remember the how or why behind it.

  4. G'morning, Rian, I have too many collections to talk about..:)
    I am a collecting dude.
I love your pretty cup...I have mostly coffee cups and mugs but two or three pretty tea cups.
Never tried yoga. I should, tho.
I just blog about anything that crosses my mind and in the 5 yrs of blogging, have never run out of anything to say. I generally think of a subject to post about as I am typing a draft of another. I keep 10 or 12 posts in drafts most of the time.
    Oh....and I love beignets with a passion. :)

  5. Hello Rian! I have seen your comments on my blog recently and wanted to know more about you. With so many blogs of your own, I had to decide which one to follow! I hope this is a good one, because I already follow WAY too many! :-)

    1. I know what you mean, DJan. I'm beginning to realize that even though I try to read all the ones I'm following each morning... I can no longer comment on them all.

As for my blogs, the archive one is mainly for me to keep track of my old stuff. The "Older, but better" and "Cats, Coffee, and Chocolate are my main sites".

However, I did start a new one just for favorite photos this morning, but it will be photos only, not much writing.

But thanks for coming by. I love reading about your hiking adventures.

  7. The pottery class sounds like fun but Yoga is beyond me. I hear it is very relaxing. It is good to do what makes you happy. :)

    1. Pottery IS fun, but Hatha Yoga is not 'hard' in the traditional sense. Like almost everything else, it takes practice and persistance.
