First of all, I will say that apparently I had the wrong 'view' (that pencil sketch on the far left) set up on the new blogger. When I got on to do a new post, it was in the html mode, not the compose mode - so there was no big T little t available at the top, and no normal signs that I've been used to.
You would think that being retired, we'd have all the time in the world... (more or less - if we don't conk off unexpectedly one day). But what seems to happen (at least with me lately) is what is pictured in this cat poster... "Ah, so much to do! So little desire to do it!"
There are things that I do that need doing every day and are done... like cooking, cleaning, maybe texting or talking with friends or family. But there are some things that have been needing doing for a very long time... sorting, filing, throwing away... that I can't seem to make myself do. I plan to, sometimes start, but never finish. Why is this?
We get the basics done, even some of the 'needed for some time' things like having the tree men come and cut down the large dead tree that had fallen some time ago out back. They did this this morning (cost $$$).
But I have to find a way to get motivated to get all this paperwork that accumulates, sort through the mail, and file... as well as throw away stuff we no longer need. How to do this?
I had to call this morning to find out why I've never received my absentee voter's ballot when DH received his last week... and we mailed in our requests together.
Then the Sleep Clinic called to say that I don't have to return this week as apparently I don't have Sleep Apnea (good news!). But they want me to keep my online appointment with the doctor to discuss possible other issues???
I still get up occasionally (did early this morning) and have tea with Ghost in the kitchen... at about 5 or 6 am. Ghost is no longer with us in person, but she is certainly still around in spirit. 💖
Going to close this now. Just wanted to update those who might be interested. Hope you all have a wonderful week. Wish you could all have tea in the kitchen with me and Ghost...
Hugs,
Rian
(Oh, and I made an old fashioned custard pie yesterday. I love custard pie - well, I love custard anything pretty much.)
So here's a pic:
I don't think you should worry, I think it's an age thing. By the time we get up, washed and dressed it seems that half of the day has already gone. Tom does take a long time to do things and that is understandable but even so we seem to have so little time. Having a nap in the afternoons doesn't' help but I am learning to let things go, it's the only way.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I do a bit of something I am not going to worry about it.
Briony
x
Maybe it is an age thing, Briony... or maybe it's part age, part pandemic, I don't know. But you are right, the day goes by so fast that before I know it, it's time to fix supper. And after supper, I'm not good for getting anything accomplished.
DeleteMmmm, custard. I've never had custard pie, but I do love custard too!
ReplyDeleteSo it's not sleep apnea! Well, I hope whatever it might be isn't anything serious and can be easily managed.
I don't know how to find the motivation to do things that have piled up, I find it a struggle to just do the basic cleaning and food prep, plus work (from home now, apparently indefinitely by the way things are going). I'm "only" 56, so it can't be an age thing. And other that for paid work, I've rarely finished a thing in my life! I'm great at starting, but not good at follow through. (Witness the LONG list of things that need to be done in this house but that I have no motivation for or interest in.)
Anyway, take care and stay well, be safe!
Never had custard pie! OMG! Kim, if you like custard, you will surely like custard pie and it's so easy.
DeleteAs for things that need to be done - guess there's always a list as everything is never done. But I hate to think of my kids having to go through all this accumulation of stuff in my computer room. I should be able to sort through it, but every time I sit down to do it, I end up spending too much time looking at old pictures or whatever, and don't get very far.
I so relate to that lack of motivation. My neighbor called it COVID fatigue. Whatever it is, I am beginning to have the desire to fight it. Not conquered as yet, but I have started little bursts of ambition. I just posted about cleaning my oven--whoopee! Now I suspect I will return to aimless funk for a while.
ReplyDeleteCleaning one's oven is indeed an accomplishment! Last week I finished dusting the front room (which has so many tiny things on the shelves that need to be removed, wiped down, and then replaced). It takes me 3 days. The kitchen itself with cleaning the sink and countertops, floors, etc. takes me one day. Guess this is probably age - as I used to clean the whole house in one day - not any more.
DeleteCustard pie sounds delish. Tea with Ghost at 5 or 6 a.m. sounds unique. I agree with you, I have a backlog of things it would be good if I do, but they are rather boring. Shredding more papers, giving away more books, etc. I think we are slowing down with age and pandemic isolation.
ReplyDeletePossibly, Terra. It's good to know that it may be affecting others... and it's not just me.
DeleteI can certainly relate to the disinclination to do things that need doing. Even things that only involve picking up the phone and scheduling people to come do them----getting the carpet cleaned, having the chimney sweep come and clean out the chimney, calling the pruning people and getting those two enormous bushes crowding out the front steps dealt with. It's just a phone call and deciding on a day and time and with no other. appointments, job, etc to schedule it around. How hard is that?! I don't know maybe it's just part of the general weirdness associated with this Covid Time.
ReplyDeleteIt may well be a part of this general weirdness, vic. Sometimes having to phone people and get through all the automated services before actually talking to a person gets to me... and it can take a good part of the day. These days I'm tired of all the conflict and don't want to do anything that difficult. Just keeping ourselves and our families safe is more than enough.
Deleteif you only knew what I have procrastinate about you'd jump for joy at your own situations is all I can say
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh, Linda. I'm sure we all procrastinate.
Deleteglad things are slowly getting better; i understand about having tea with Ghost, some of mine still hung around long after they were gone & i still get the odd one passing through; i think they come back to check up on us & mine are happy that i now have new companions i think too. ghost will go once no longer needed.
ReplyDeleteyour custard pie looks very cozy! nothing helps the soul like comfort foods xxx
thanx for sharing
Custard pie is my 'go to' when we need pie. I wanted to make a dark chocolate cream pie, but didn't have the bittersweet chocolate on hand.
DeleteCustard pie used to be my favorite but I haven’t had it in many years. My family never liked it, so it would mean that it would only be me eating it.
ReplyDeleteThe days go by, and if I don’t give myself a list of things to accomplish that week, I will sit around doing nothing. Then I get the guilt thing and double down on chores. I hate chores, but there isn’t much else to do.
I sometimes make a list of things to do each day... but lately, have ignored them. However, even if I get one thing done from the list, I feel somewhat accomplished.
DeleteWell I am glad you don't have sleep apnea. Don't know how people sleep in those masks. Hope you can find an answer soon.
ReplyDeleteKnow what you mean about days flying with little accomplished. It seems I have just had breakfast and it is all ready time to think lunch and lately, I have had little appetite so that isn't fun. Pretty sure it is because I have done nothing to work up an appetite.
I'm blaming Covid for the lack of ambition.
One thing I know for sure, Patti - that if and when this craziness (Covid and the election) is over, we are going to really appreciate going out to eat at a restaurant! And 'if the restaurants survive', they should do really well once this pandemic is over.
DeleteI understand about having Ghost still around and enjoying the company. And I do hope your ballot shows up soon. Sending you lots of love and virtual hugs. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how Ghost shows up around here so often...
DeleteGood news that it isn't sleep apnea - hopefully it is something simple that can be resolved easily. I can understand the visits with Ghost, I felt the presence of my Sami for many months after she passed. Neither of my other cats will sleep where she slept on the bed either, perhaps she's still there.
ReplyDeleteI've managed to reduce the amount of paper coming into the house by going electronic as much as I can with bills, credit cards, etc. It helps somewhat.
As for motivation, I'm with you - I do what I need to do and a few things I enjoy but bigger projects are pretty much on the back burner for now.
Take care and stay well!
Thanks, Mae. My oldest son says that after this pandemic is over (and maybe before) there will be a greater need for psychiatrists to handle the problems that unexpectedly occurred during this crazy time. Perhaps he's right.
DeleteDear Rian, so enjoyed your Sunday posting that featured the cat posters. They captured the essence of feline. Thank you. As to today's posting, I share your frustration. I, too, cannot seem to get motivated to do even the things I most want to do. As to the sleeping: I wake up two or three nights a week to visit the bathroom and then cannot get back to sleep. So I get up and brew "Sleepy Time" time made by Yogi and it so relaxes me that often I do go back to sleep for several hours--until Maggie used one of her calico paws to tap my cheek in impatience. She wants food! FOOD! Hope all is well. Take care; stay safe. Many meows and peace.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you, Dee. 2020 seems to be a year of anxiety and frustration... but we are almost through it. Hopefully 2021 will be better... (but I find it hard to visualize). However, I will continue to pray and do the things we need to do to keep us and others safe... from the virus as well as from hate and division. I wish you peace and a good night's sleep.
DeleteI've just started reading your blog, and now am wondering if you've given up on cats completely, now that you've lost Ghost. Hard to imagine a happy life without a sweet cat..
ReplyDeleteWould never 'give up on cats'... but still hurting from Ghost's loss. And since we take care of all the ferals outside (and their kittens) we are not without cats to care for. Whether the time will come when we feel OK to take another inside, time will tell.
Deletei love pie anything, that looks yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Cookies and cakes are good, but pie is even better.
