I love seagulls...

Have I mentioned that I love seagulls?

There's not a lot new to post here as I'm continuing to print my 14 years of web journaling. I'm almost finished the 2nd year today. It takes time and lots and lots of paper and ink. Running out of black ink again - so may have to pick up another cartridge soon (and no, I'm not printing in color).

I did have to stop this morning for a while to go to my annual Eye Specialist appointment. Between Dr. G (the Eye Specialist) and Dr. K (my regular Eye Dr), they see me every 6 months to keep watch over my *Narrow Angles*.... which is why they did the laser holes a few years back.. Narrow Angles lead to Narrow Angle Glaucoma. So they watch over the pressure build-up in my eyes as well as checking that the holes are still open. They also seem to think that eventually (not yet) I will need cataract surgery.... and that surgery will replace the large lens with a smaller lens which apparently will eliminate the danger of NA glaucoma. I think that's how it was explained to me.

4 Berry and Cream Pie - not a great pic, but there wasn't a lot left

BTW, I baked a 4-Berry pie the other day using strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.  It was a first and turned out very good. Instead of the traditional way of using flour or corn starch as a filler, I used tapioca...  so it was really a *Berry and Cream* pie. We may have a little left.  Served it with a dab of vanilla ice-cream on top. I also cooked up 2 batches of Chicken Tetrazzini yesterday. The recipe calls for white wine - which we didn't have - but cream sherry worked well.  DH and I will have one casserole and one of the kids can have the other.

I also replanted some of my Mountain Laurels and bought and potted my curly parsley into a hanging basket this afternoon.  My SIL down in the Hill Country around San Antonio has Mountain Laurels all over his land.  He plants the seeds and they pop up everywhere. Then he gives me the seedlings.  I have 4 that have been doing well for the last 2 years, but they are very slow growers... and I'm not sure that the tree itself will ever do well here.

Oh, something I want to mention is that there's a new TV series coming out soon, "The Outlander". Have you heard of this? It's a 7 book series (soon to be 8 since a new one is due out in June) by Diana Gabaldon that's being remade for TV (and DVD).  It's about a young woman on a trip to Scotland with her husband when she goes out on her own to visit a circle of stones and falls through a time gap where she finds herself 200 years in the past. The books are historical fiction and were one of my all time favorite reads. I don't have high hopes for the TV series because I'm afraid that the characters on the screen could never be portrayed as well as they were in the books (or in my mind). But we'll see...

DH and I don't watch a lot of TV... except for after supper in the evenings. But lately there is absolutely nothing on worth watching. Sometimes I may find something on public television, but even that lately has been lacking. Recently we've started watching the cooking channel. "Chopped" is a little addictive and we find this surprising as we never watch any reality TV.  Have any of you out there watched this show? I find it a bit nerve-wracking, yet oddly fascinating.

  1. Hello! Delurking because your information on "Outlander" drew me out. I love those books (and have done so, since the very beginning)! I think you're right....any fan of these books would have her own ideas on what the characters would look (and act) like and I don't have high hopes of the producers getting it right. And by right, I mean, of course, that they should read my mind and cast it accordingly (wink). I "think" it would do better as a movie or a movie series, what do you think? I did have an idea a while back that Gerard Butler would make a good, older "Jamie". I didn't know about the series, in any case, until I read it here...so, thank you! I enjoy your blog!

    1. How about that? I de-lurked a lurker! Well, welcome! You never know what is going to spark someone's interest... and the upcoming "Outlander" TV series ignites a good spark! As far as a movie or movie series, I don't know. The book series covers so much time and generations... and history... it's just hard to imagine that they could do it to a reader's satisfaction in any other medium. But I'm sure looking forward to their effort.

  2. I'll look forward to seeing the Outlander series but like you and Pippa I have my own ideas about the characters. I loved the books and didn't realise that another book was in the offing.
Thanks for your comments on Leo's letter, it was a bit of fun to write and Leo's Mum enjoyed it.

    1. I didn't realize that any other books in the series were even in the making either until I got an email from Barnes and Noble notifying me. But it was my DIL who let me know about the TV series in the making. She is a big fan of the books also.

  3. Very classic sea gull photo. I could also mention they leave very large calling cards in big parking areas, like the grocery store.
The pie looks grand, and tapioca is a good idea.

    1. Most of the seagulls I've seen have been out by the water or around beaches. For some reason watching them fly... and navigate... and land fascinates me. That particular picture on my blog was taken (I believe) in either Seattle or Vancouver before we left on our Alaskan cruise.

  4. You have been keeping yourself busy! Of course, it is a busy time of year. I have been watching the Cook's Test Kitchen on PBS affiliate Create--and doing a lot more reading--not a bad thing at all.

    1. Busy yes... accomplishing anything... doesn't seem like it. Sometimes it feels like I'm just "flapping my wings" - but not getting anywhere. Other times it feel wonderful to just "be". Odd...

  5. Gracious, you really must have written a lot in those 14 years. Only two years in and all that ink and paper! Wow! I will have cataract surgery myself one of these years, but not yet. Yours sound a bit more important for your eyes to stay healthy. I read a couple of those books but never got hooked. You're right about there not being much worthwhile to watch on TV these days. :-)

    1. I did write daily back then. Now I'm good if I write a few times a week... if that. As for the cataract surgery, hopefully it's still a few years off (for both of us).

  6. I don't know either of those shows but we only get basic cable and perhaps they aren't on that list. That pie looks so delicious and your casseroles sound wonderful, fourteen years of journalling, my what an accomplishment

    1. Linda, "The Outlander" is going to be on Starz (in August). As for "Chopped" , thats on the foodnetwork... and I don't know if it comes on basic cable. But I have to say that watching cooking shows in some ways is similar to watching pottery videos for me - it makes me think "I can do that..."
