a touch of weather... and finished quilts

This is the sight DH and I saw from our car driving to Central Market this morning to get groceries. Talk about scary looking skies. Still reminds me of that old TV show... Land of the Lost.

I've never thought much about 'low lying clouds' before, but with all the tornadoes spurning out of low lying clouds lately - it makes me think twice when I see them.

And I finally finished doing the binding on the quilts I've been working on.  It has taken me forever, but remember I've never sewed before and all this is new to me. So I'm happy that they came out at all... but if you're a established quilter, I'm sure that you can tell that I'm a novice. And I've been told that it's best to do the binding by hand... but... I don't sew by hand well either, so I chose to bind by machine. It isn't great as I have trouble 'stitching in the ditch'... but at least they're finished!

I'll leave you with some shots taken from one of our bird feeders recently.

Have a wonderful SAFE holiday weekend!

  1. I would not feel comfortable with those clouds overhead. On the other hand, lovely little quilts.

    1. I know... Joanne. As the car was headed towards those clouds, I texted my daughter a picture and she said, "Mom, that's scary, turn around and go home".

    1. The picture does look a bit like a dust storm (which we've had here also) except the clouds are then more sandy than gray. As for my sewing, no... it's a new craft for me... and I am getting better at it (slowly). In a lot of ways, it reminds me of working with clay as I can picture what I want to do... and enjoy picking out what fabrics to use... but never sure if it will come out as I have in mind.

  3. Your quilts look very professional to me. Nice job, and I can see why those clouds might give you pause. :-)

    1. Oh, DJan... thanks for the compliment, but they are far from professional. My friend's quilts DO look professional and she's teaching me. If she wasn't such a patient person, I'd have given up a while back trying to do it on my own. But since the persons I plan to give them to aren't quilters themselves, I think they'll overlook my less than perfect stitching, etc. (Actually Tux (my cat) loves his! )

    Those clouds are indeed ominous.

    1. Thanks, Olga. If I'm not mistaken, you are a quilter... so I'm glad the blog doesn't show my less than perfect stitching. "Stitching in the ditch" is very difficult for me...not sure why. But maybe you do hand quilting - which I tried at first and could never get the hang of (at least machine quilting is easier).

  5. Oh my, those clouds look very frightening. I hope they didn't bring any nasty weather to you.

Your quilts are lovely! And how does Mr/Ms. Squirrel get into the bird feeder? Must be hungry.

    1. The clouds were frightening, but they didn't bring more than rain that morning.
As for the squirrel, he climbs right up that tree and shimmies down that supposedly squirrel-proof wire. And he can shimmie up it also... although more often he does the flying leap like the picture shows.

  6. I wouldn't want to drive into those clouds, either, might, in fact, have gotten off/turned around asap.

Kudos to you on the quilts! I think they're awesome. You could stuff the cat quilt with a bit of nip next time, if you didn't already. What fun for your crew! :-)

    1. Stuffing catnip in the cat quilts is a cute idea! But it would only last until the first washing... but even then I like it.
