Occasionally we have a Professional Potter
come in and do a weekend workshop!
These are some of the things we made at our clay workshop this past Friday and Saturday... platters, pitchers, and butter dishes.
My own projects turned out OK.

My original plan when starting with clay was to learn throwing on the wheel... which I've done, but I'm finding it takes years to get proficient. Hand-building is probably the same. If I had to say which part of working with clay I enjoy the most, it's probably 'sculpting little clay animals'...
But I will continue to attend the classes, workshops, seminars, and festivals... as the variety of originality and talent fascinates me.
And supposedly *learning new things* is good for our aging minds!
Going to leave today (Monday) with a picture of my pink tulips that we bought at Central Market around Easter time. I love pale pink tulips!
I don't usually give in to the temptation to buy flowers, but this time couldn't resist (such beauty for $6.99). However, they did have to be kept in the bathroom as our cats tend to chew on any available plants.

I love all your pieces! I think the pieces you made recently, at your workshop, are far more than "passable." And I especially love that fox (not sure when you did that, I realize it wasn't at the workshop).
ReplyDeleteThe tulips are so pretty. I usually buy myself some around my birthday, but didn't this year. Maybe because it still was cold enough for long johns and I wasn't in the mood. LOL. Enjoy yours!

DeleteI shopped for years among potters for a COVERED butter dish. "Do you have a butter dish?" Out came a little butter tray. "Cover?" No, no cover. "What's the point?" my friend finally said one day. Then I found a wonderful covered butter dish; the lid roomy enough not to chip slices off the butter. I used it for years. Then a cat knocked it on the floor and it broke. That's my butter dish story.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, the potter who was instructing us made a point of showing us how to make sure the cover was wide enough to fit over the butter... (She had a cut-out of the butter). So I can see that your problem was probably a common one when it came to butter dishes. (The *cat* problem is also fairly common...)

ReplyDeleteI think your carved animals are adorable and maybe that is your niche--but it can only help to keep up the classes and workshops.
Yes, my instructor agrees that the little sculptured animals may be my niche, but I will keep up the hand-building and wheel throwing.
DeleteI'm so impressed with your pieces. I have no artistic talent, but am trying various crafts while we are camp hosting. I'm hoping I'll develop some skill in at least one of them. All the other hosts make lovely hand-crafted gifts. So far the spouse is having a good time laughing at my creations. I disagree with DJan, the dog is adorable.
