such as it is...

PBS series "Pie in the Sky"

Almost finished watching the "Pie in the Sky" PBS series on DVD. Love Henry Crabbe - the chef/detective!

These DVD's (previous to this was the Downton Abbey series) have kept me sane when there's nothing but re-runs (for the most part) on TV lately.  Of course it has given me more time to work on my de-cluttering the computer room. I've actually gotten past the desk, bed, and small shelf and cleared 3 of the 4 high shelves on the back wall. Once this is done, I will "ENTER THE OMINOUS CLOSET" where there are probably 20 + years of paperwork and junk to go through. (I'm not a hoarder, but this closet probably comes close)

And I'm trying to be lean and mean... throwing away or giving to charity stuff that just doesn't need to be kept anymore.

old mama coon at the kitchen door...

This is the old mama coon (who must have babies somewhere close by as she is obviously nursing) who comes by every night to our kitchen door looking for hand-outs. There is dry catfood out in the yard which she does help herself to, but she likes to get a little extra treat and will stand by the french doors with both hands on the window, cock her head to the side, and wait. Usually we give her a cookie or what-ever is available. This night I only had a slice of bread...

There are some that say "don't feed the wild-life" and I understand their reasoning, but to be honest we've learned (after being here for 30 years) that if we feed them, they don't cause any trouble. They eat, they leave, and they don't cause any trouble or do any damage. At least this has been our experience.

Tux in window

Tux likes to sit in the window seat and watch the front outside cats and kittens. We laugh as the inside ones watch the outside ones and vice-versa - kind of  double reality TV.  I'd call it, "Windows to another world".

2 kittens playing on branch in back... see black one behind b&w?

That about sums up my week so far. Quick update on Rose and her stitches (staples), She's been really good. We haven't had to put that awful collar on her again... so far. She has an appointment tomorrow with the Vet to check the wound and see if the staples can come out. I'm of the opinion that they probably should remain a bit longer, but we'll see.

  1. Gosh, Rose seems to be hanging in there! I'm so glad she's not having to wear the Cone of Shame any more. :-)

    1. Me too, DJan. She looked so sad with that collar that it made me feel bad.

  2. So glad Rose is cone free. Callie was so relieved to be out of hers. Thank goodness we humans are't subjected to those delightful gadgets. Hope Rose's appointment is all good news.

    1. Thanks, Patti. The soft collar is not as bad as those plastic cones, but still...

  3. I was wondering how Rose was doing, glad you updated us. She's a tough cookie. As is the momma raccoon!

The "OMINOUS CLOSET" cracked me up. Good luck with that...maybe go in pairs, for safely. LOL.

    1. Kim, Rose is doing great. I know at her age, she could go at any time... but I think she must have realized that she had a 9th life coming to her and she's going for it!
As for mama raccoon, she seems to be a sweet old girl (although we don't try to touch her). We keep expecting to see her bring up the baby coons to eat one day soon.

  4. Definitely good news about Rose. What a sweet and tough old girl.

I'm a little afraid of raccoons - would they ever harm any of the kittens? I know they do a lot of damage at my brother's farm.

Ahhh...cleaning the clutter, I know that feeling well. I tend to hang onto paper as well. I am an accountant after all. :) Good luck with the closet!

    1. The raccoons have never tried to harm the kittens or fight with the cats. I know they could, but they never have. The kittens don't seem to be afraid of them, but do hiss if they get too close.
And Eileen, my dear friend is an accountant also and she believes in hanging on to paperwork as well.

  5. we found that the possum will not fight our cat, but a raccoon can and they are strong enough to kill a cat, Barney and a raccoon have been a fight before, now that we have the screen room the cat food we leave out occasionally is left alone, do you give the raccoon some fruits or vegetable scraps? might be good to feed it away from the house out in the yard somewhere. I must go back and read about Rose to see why she got stitches.

    1. Linda, the raccoon, possum, and feral cats all seem to get along in our yard. They eat together and even sleep under the fan on the back porch together. But they do give each other their space... although sometimes it's only 6 inches apart.
We give them whatever scraps we have left over. They especially love pizza and watermelon...?? And the cat dishes are out in the middle of the yard, but the old coon knows to come to the back door and look in .... as the cats do.

  6. Honestly, maybe you should rename your blog to Dr Doolittle. It sounds like you have all those critters in a trance. Is it something you might bottle and give to all the world's political factions?

    1. We do have a sign on the gate that says "Wildlife Sanctuary"... maybe they take it seriously. We could put up a "Trouble-makers will be ousted!"... but it's never been necessary.
As for the world's political factions, I think that's a lost cause.
