Saturday Julie decided to join me in the bath. As you can see, she is fascinated with the water. She hears the tub running and makes a b-line for the master bath.
Contemplating the water...
Testing the water...
Letting me know if it's alright...
We also had a strange visitor outside Friday in the pouring rain. This little guy just jaunted on up and made himself at home eating the rain-filled plates of what once had been dry cat food. DH and I watched him from inside hoping he wouldn't stay too long. And the feral cats who were keeping out of the rain on our back porch watched him carefully from their vantage points. No one ventured out and luckily he didn't venture any closer.
We had a pretty good video of him (or her) walking about and eating, but for whatever reason couldn't seem to get the video downloaded to my computer from my iPhone. So this pic was taken off the video and isn't terribly clear. We don't see skunks very often (thankfully).
I'm cooking some farm-raised Scottish salmon this weekend. It's my favorite. I try to experiment and eat different kinds of Salmon from Central Market, but this one works best for me. DH doesn't like Salmon. He'll eat catfish or Halibut, shrimp, crayfish, and oysters, but no Salmon. So he'll have some hatch chili sausages for supper. (I'm not much on sausages myself... don't mind some cut up as seasoning in red beans, etc. but not just straight sausages.)
And it is Hatch Chili Pepper Time at Central Market! We bought Hatch Sauce, Hatch fresh peppers, Hatch roasted peppers, Hatch cheese, and Hatch tortillas. And I made the best all-fresh Hatch Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas the other night. I'm going to make another batch this week while the Hatch peppers are still available and freeze it for later.
And it must be getting close to Fall, as I'm craving me some red beans and rice...
I have to mention this here as I was thinking about it a little while ago. One of the blogs I read (Musings) asked if one was allowed to go back 500 years into the past or 500 years into the future, which would one choose? Found this difficult to answer. Not sure I'd want to go either way. Now perhaps it would be intriguing to go back, but not quite so far. I would have liked to have known my great great grandparents and their families. As for the future... I don't know. I guess it could be interesting to know how the world will be 500 years in the future, but with all the Armageddon scenarios, I'm a bit hesitant.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
You must feel like royalty with the official bath tester making sure your bathing experience is just right!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice...
DeleteDoes Julie ever go into the water?
ReplyDeleteNo, not yet. She looks tempted... and gets pretty far down, but hasn't tried to actually get in.
Deletecan't believe a cat would test the water in a bathtub, and the skunk must have been hungry, we have been so dry here, neighbors said a bear demolished their bbq for scraps of food
ReplyDeleteShe just loves playing with water. And as much as I love the critters, I'm kind of glad we don't have bears...
DeleteJulie is funny! I can't imagine either of my boys doing that.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what "Hatch" is, but I'm sure all the food is yummy. I do love salmon. Send your hubby's share my way. BTW, I'll eat sausage any day, love it! It's my German heritage. :-)
As for going back or forward in time -- preferably neither. I suppose if I were just a "fly on the wall", so to speak, I'd go back, it could be interesting to see reality versus recorded "history," as "history" often isn't fact, but a combination of fact and fiction written for some purpose, IMO.
However, I would pass on going forward. I wouldn't be keen to see what humans have done to our Earth in another 500 years.
Kim, Hatch peppers are locally grown (more or less) green peppers that are either mild or hot (I use mild). They are wonderful roasted and can be used in almost anything. When it's Hatch Pepper Time, CM (as well as other places) sell them fresh, roasted, sauces, tortillas, corn bread, brownies,... well, almost anything... even gelato (although we haven't tried this).
DeleteYikes to the skunk! At first it looked like a critter with a bow tie, but then you explained the white markings. Salmon is the only fish I eat, so we have balanced out the universe. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan, I do love Salmon. And coming from New Orleans, I also eat most other seafood. I especially like Crabs... boiled or soft-shelled! And I used to eat oysters any way... raw, fried, roasted, soup, or chowder. Mom even made oyster pie and oyster patties. But I don't eat seafood any way but fresh... no frozen, no canned.
DeleteGoodness are you ever spoiled having a bath tester and a cat at that. Yes skunks do love cat food. I can remember trying to shoo one off my property. Skunks don't shoo--they leave when they are darn well ready.
ReplyDeleteI discovered Salmon in my 76th year. It is never too late to enjoy that lovely fish.
No, skunks don't shoo... neither do armadillos.
DeleteFunny Julie! None of my cats have shown any interest in water lately, though I seem to recall SAku falling into the tub when he was a kitten.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought skunks are rather pretty...from a distance. Don't blame the cats or you for keeping away from it.
I would love if you would share your recipe for red beans and rice (have you already and I've forgotten to bookmark it?) It's one of my favorite foods when I travel to the Caribbean but it isn't very common here in Canada. I also love fresh B.C. salmon - I'll be there in a couple of weeks for a short visit and plan to get my fill then.
Have a great week!
