The raccoons pay not mind to him, but when they try to eat with him, he hisses and moves away.

People tend to say that possums are ugly, but I find him rather cute.

We always have box turtles both in the front and back of our house... eating from the feral's dry cat food. They also like the figs that fall from the fig trees. Most of the ones we see are about 6 inches across, but occasionally we see smaller ones. This one was only about 4 inches - one of the youngest we've seen lately. Years ago we did see even smaller ones, but think the hawks get these before they get much bigger.
Going back to a previous post about my 'monkey mind'... I've decided to try to keep my mind focused on things that aren't out of my control. We've given to the Red Cross to help the victims of the hurricanes, I've prayed for those involved in the earthquake, and when it comes to the state of the world's politics - voting when the time comes is the only answer that I can see.
It seems to me that people need to get their priorities straight. No one wants war... (at least I hope not) whether it be over a nuclear issue or over a Confederate statue. Who or what keeps stirring things up? It's almost as if dividing the country is the goal. Let's turn it around and use these tragedies to bring us all together. Easier said than done I know... but there's a song that says, "Let there be peace on earth... and let it begin with me". I like that.
Now... I'm going to close today with a picture that I just found that is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. It's a picture of a Silver Lab. Now I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Silver Lab, so I googled it. Apparently they exist, but there is a lot of controversy over whether they are considered purebred. I don't know anything about this, but this is certainly an adorable pup!

The pup IS adorable, but so is that possum! I can see that people would look at the possum's tail and think "rat," but his face is cute. I like turtles too, hope this little one makes it to adulthood.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the world is going to h*ll in a hand basket, but I except every generation says that. I just don't want another world war in my lifetime, thanks. Two infantile boys on the school playground, I don't have words. Anyway, I'm going to focus on what *I* can control too!
Take care, have a lovely week.
Thanks, Kim. We enjoy the little critters that come into our yard... and find some sanctuary there. We don't use any chemicals so we are seeing more and more little lizards and toads too.
DeleteOh my goodness, that little Lab puppy is adorable. Poppy and I used to raise Labs. We didn't stay in the business very long. We would get too attached to the puppies and hate to let them go. That little possum is cute as can be too. I had a baby possum named Alvin way back when I was a teenager. All baby animals are cute, aren't they. I love how you feed all the animals!
ReplyDeleteI know! That puppy is beyond cute! And I've never owned one, but have always wanted a yellow lab... now... I want a silver one! However, our 3 spoiled cats may not like the idea.
DeleteNow, look at that! I have finally found someone else who likes the raccoons (Or should I say tolerates them?) We have several that come to dine with us each day at dusk. There's a mother and four young ones that are just adorable. I think you have got the "monkey mind" thing all figured out. You are so right..."let it begin with me!" If only everyone would adopt that motto!
ReplyDeleteChip, we do like the raccoons. We have a mother with 5 little ones and one solitary one that comes nightly and looks in our french door about 10 pm. DH usually throws out some bread for her. They are wild critters, so we don't encourage them, but they are certainly welcome.
DeleteI am surprised turtles eat cat food; possums are good since they eat ticks by the thousands. I was thinking of you when I went to the quilt show here this weekend; I posted a bunch of photos you might enjoy seeing.
ReplyDeleteThe turtles actually prefer the dry cat food... as we sometimes leave out strawberries and other fruit... which they eat, but seem to really like the cat food. As for the quilt show pics, I did see them (and liked the dragonfly one also).
DeleteYour cute critters made me smile this morning, Rain. And who cares if he's purebred or not? He's so darn cute! :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree about the purebred thing... who cares? (but of course some do... especially if they're into show dogs). But that puppy just captured my heart... that sweet face and those blue eyes!
DeleteLooks like your "feral cat food" is good for more than just cats. We are seeing more possums here in Vermont in the past few years. I think they have always been around but they are certainly more visible lately.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty silver lab, and your cats are beauties too. I have a cat and a dog and am retired, older but better? I hope.
