great soup and an adorable kitten...

African Chicken Peanut soup

This soup is so good and so easy to make that we make it every winter when we need a nice hearty soup with lots of chicken, sweet potatoes, and black beans... (and the secret ingredient is peanut butter).

Christmas is only a week away and while all shopping has pretty much been done, there are still last minute things that need doing. Today I finished the Christmas cookies and candies that need to be mailed tomorrow. Then I can start on the ones that will be needed here at home.

And today DH and I went to Best Buy and updated our very old dinosaur (computer). Ours still works. It's a desktop that still uses Vista. But since many no longer support Vista, we decided it was time. However, moving from Vista to Windows 10 (and all that comes with that) is not easy. We're going from Word 2007 to Word 2016... and after going through the Tutorial - think I'd better go out and get "Word 2016 for dummies" or this could take forever.

You really can't let technology get too far ahead of you as it becomes almost impossible to catch up. We try to keep up and do use our computer and iPhones - but the truth is, they can probably do more than we'll ever know. It amazes me that even after using a cell phone for all these years, people (usually kids or grandkids) can still show me how to do something that I had no idea it could do.

But since they say 'continuing to learn something new' is good for our brains, I'm happy to keep learning.

Going to close with a picture of a kitten that someone posted on Facebook the other day.  They were asking for a caption and I submitted my own. But the picture is so touching, that it stands by itself.

my caption: "You're leaving...?? You're really leaving....??"

Have a great week and a wonderful safe holiday season!

  1. I feel especially old and 'out of it' when visiting the kids. They make fun of my antiquated stuff and my ignorance of the newest technology.

    1. True, but 'occasionally' I've come across something (especially on my iPhone) that they didn't know. But I have to admit, it doesn't happen often.

    1. Sounds wonderful. I used to love fresh mushroom soup, but as I've gotten older, I can't eat mushrooms anymore (due to migraines).

    1. The soup is wonderful. My daughter makes it also and loves it. As for the kitten... well, that face says it all.

  4. My sister in law recently had a trip to Ireland and suggested Irish vegetable soup to me -- basically root vegetables boiled in water with salt and pepper then whirred through a blender. It is very satisfying on a blustery winter day.
    The kitty is adorable.

    1. I'm not familiar with Irish vegetable soup, but what you describe reminds me of what they served in Northern Scotland which was also delicious.

  6. Congrats on the new computer! I keep trying to get Mom to upgrade her 10 year old one that's so out of date, and she keeps saying it's on her list. I think her stepson-in-law will take her computer shopping during our Boxing Week sales here in Canada. You're far more on the ball re: tech than she is, believe me.

The soup looks yummy, and of course the kitten pic is off-the-scale sweet.

Good luck with the rest of your holiday preparations, we're in the downhill slide to Christmas Day now. How quickly the year has passed!

    Take care!

    1. Thanks, Kim. I'm typing this on my old computer as we're still 'figuring out' the new one. It came with Windows Ink which involves a stylus (pen), which I think will be helpful proofing, but haven't got the hang of it yet.
Wishing you a wonderful safe Christmas and New Year! I know yours will most probably be a White Christmas. Ours is supposed to be cold... but not white.

  7. that kitten is precious and the soup sounds divine, we bought a laptop when we left california and it is still doing just fine for us, it's a HP and it has updated itself all along automatically even windows 10 which gradually I have gotten used to. the computer store said it should be good for another 5 years or so; so I am glad we spent the money on getting an hewlett packard rather than a less expensive computer. Before this one we had a tower HP and it lasted a long while too but finally just became too bulky to use any longer so we dismantled it. I hope to make it to the post office this week to mail your package. Have a happy holiday season.

    1. Hi Linda! Going from Vista to Windows 10 and especially going from Word 2007 to Word 2016 isn't easy. We always buy Dell and have been happy with them through the years. We will continue to use our desktop as long as it's serviceable, but trying to switch over to the new laptop... as gradually as possible. It probably does much more than we need it for, but hopefully it will last for a good many years. Can't wait to get your package. Swapping was a fun idea.

  8. Dear Rian, not only does the picture "stand by itself," the kitten does too! I liked the caption you added on Facebook.

The peanut-butter soup recipes sounds enticing. I'm a vegetarian and so would have to prepare it without that ingredient, but I'd love to try it. Is it a recipe you found on-line?

Like you, I'm moving forward in preparing for christmas. But.... I still haven't decorated the tree or the living room, kitchen, and foyer. Nor have I started on my cards. But I hope that I'll get done what is best and leave the rest, knowing that all is probably not possible. Please be good to yourself during this season of hope and expectation. Peace.

    1. The soup is wonderful, but I'm guessing you would have to leave out the chicken and peanut butter... and use vegetable broth instead of chicken. I will be glad to send it to you, Dee... it's easy, but rather long.
Have a blessed safe happy holiday!

  9. I might try that soup if it can be cooked in a crock pot or pressure cooker. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
The kitten looks like he's wearing a tux, ready to go out.

    1. I'm guessing that you could cook it in a crock pot. My Aga is on all the time so it's similar to a crock pot (has 4 ovens, 150, 250, 350, and 450). I generally cook most of it on the hob, then put it into the 250 oven until we're ready to eat.
