Coffee and chocolate...

Thought these posters say it well...

I read in a book somewhere that one should allow oneself one forgivable  sin.  I have 2.... coffee and chocolate. Could be worse, right?

This seems to be where my thoughts are this morning... certainly nothing deep or philosophical. I guess I think about it being aware that too much coffee isn't good for my kidneys and too much chocolate can affect my migraines. However, having almost 74 years  under my belt, one cup of coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon, and a bar of Lindt salted dark chocolate (that lasts me a week) does no harm... and certainly helps my moods.

If I do run out (DH shares this bar with me), I can always make us "chocolate in a mug"  to go with our afternoon tea/coffee -which is such a simple recipe that can be done in 5 minutes and is ready in the microwave in 90 seconds. Easy peasy and very good!

Oh... and you know I love chickens! Well, after my visit to my daughter's last weekend and watching her chickens and baby chicks, I came across this chicken coop (which is sold at William Sonoma's). It's just the perfect size for our yard. Costs too much of course and don't know if it could possibly be 'feral cat proof'.... but one can dream.

I could even grow herbs in the top planter....

*Cats and chickens (as well as coffee and chocolate) do seem to make me happy. But it may be that my clay cheeky chickens will have to suffice.*

Ghost

Hugs,
Rian

  1. I used to drink a lot of coffee but had to give it up as it caused no end of heartburn. I do occasionally have a cup or so - like this morning - but that's the first in over a week. Chocolate is infrequent too, especially good chocolate as I get migraines. Sad really!

Enjoy your day with chocolate and coffee!

    1. I grew up drinking coffee... can't imagine not. But I do want it fresh - either hot or cold. Happy that so many places are opening up that are concentrating on fresh ground coffee. One of my idiosyncrasies is that if a restaurant has good coffee, it becomes a favorite place.

  2. I do like the looks of that chicken coop/planter. But it's dubious whether anything can really be feral-cat proof. :-)

    1. I agree, DJan. Hard for a coop to be feral cat, raccoon, rat snake, and coyote proof.

  3. Those are definitely two acceptable vices! If you can make a bar of chocolate last a whole week, you have better self control than I! -Jenn

    1. Jenn, it's a rather large bar... and I just break off a piece whenever the need arises.

  4. My solitary experience with another person's experiment with chickens in the basement (until spring and they could go outside) was enough to put me off chickens, f.o.r.e.v.e.r.

    1. That sounds like a story worth telling, Joanne. There are definitely pitfalls when it comes to having chickens (predators, etc. - and they can be messy). But having fresh eggs is great... and the baby chicks are adorable. Even the adult chickens make me laugh.

  5. I've had a bar of good chocolate in my house for two weeks now and it has yet to be opened. HOWEVER, when I want chocolate I really, really want it so I have to keep it around.

    1. I do understand that, Olga. It becomes a staple that you don't want to run out of. I feel the same about classic coke. I only buy one... and it lasts for a week or more. But when I want a sip of coke, I want it to be there.

  6. My coffee has to be heavily milked (microwave lattes), but I’m right there with the chocolate. Cats yes, chickens no.

    1. Hi Linda, I do read your posts, but have never commented (or hardly ever). Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I can go either way with coffee - my daughter uses milk, I either do black or evaporated milk - a teaspoon of condensed milk is good too - although I seldom use sugar.

  7. I think the sin should be over-indulgence. Coffee and chocolate are not sins in themselves. Even exercise could be a sin ir you spend too much time on it away from your family.

  8. I love my dark chocolate, I keep a bar in a ziplock baggie in the frig, it's been in there for quite some time, but ready and waiting, I have one cup of coffee in the am. That chicken coup is very nice, wonder is it moveable, raccoons might be able to dig under or fox.

    1. I keep my dark chocolate in the frig too, Linda. As for the coop, I do believe it is movable, but I doubt if its feral critter proof. You can find it at William Sonoma (it's expensive).

  9. Oh, I wish you would get that little chicken coop. It's the cutest one I've seen. Ghost looks so soft and lovable. I love the posters...and love my coffee and chocolate too. I have one large cup in the morning with cream and sugar and sip on it until noon. It seems to get better the longer it sits. I simply love that picture in the side bar of the little girl with the kittens. I can just hear all the sweet tiny meowing.

    1. It is a really sweet neat little coop, isn't it? As for the picture on the side bar, that was taken 14 years ago. My grand daughter was 3 there... now she is 17. She took home the little Siamese kitten. His name is Cocoa and is still with her. We also still have 2 of the black and white's you see in that pic. They are all 14 now - born feral, but the best loving good disposition cats ever!

  10. Ooh, I love that coop. When I retired I thought I'd raise chickens, garden and fish. I only got around to gardening but I still think about chickens even though I eat very few eggs. I just like the feathery critters.

    1. Patti, I'd love to have a chickens too... but with all the feral cats, coyotes, raccoons, etc. around here... not sure it's a good idea. I also thought I would fish (not have fish), but possibly learn to fly fish. We had a fishing cabin in Grand Isle when I was growing up in Louisiana, and I loved to fish. Haven't fished in years.
