Things like:
1. Passwords... such a pain. They recommend you have a different one for each account and even that should change ever so often. This is almost an impossibility. When someone asks me my pin or password, my mind does a blank. I would think someone could come up with a better way.
2. Scams... usually by phone. With Caller ID, most of us don't even answer calls by unknown people or numbers (if it's important, they should be smart enough to leave a message, right?) Our cell phone service actually says "Scam Likely" for some numbers (like whose going to answer those??).
3. Security questions... I have to laugh at these - because some of us (at least those who have been married for 50+ years) could answer these questions for our spouses... (favorite places, first car, etc.) But it's possible that this wouldn't always be the case.
4. Terror attacks - something that never entered our minds in years past. And although we mustn't let our lives change due to this new (relatively) threat, now we are even given instructions as to what to do when such should occur.
I could go on (as I'm sure you could too)...
5. iPhones, laptops, and computer games.... a wonderful convenience or a mass addiction?
But I won't.
It's just a lot to think about... besides aging, health, finances, children, etc. No wonder we get those occasional 3 am dark nights of the soul...
Now I'm thinking that I need to end this on a better note... something uplifting, something fun...
Hmm...mmm I had a birthday Saturday! We ordered pizza and I drank part of a Guinness. Slept like a baby. That was fun...
Hope you have a wonderful week! And as always... thanks for visiting and letting me vent my thoughts. Wish I could serve you some coffee (or tea) and some of our left-over fresh peach custard pie...
OMG peach custard pie...my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteIt's my second favorite, Tabor. Dark chocolate cream pie is my favorite... but the peach is darn good.
Deletethat is "d a r n"...
DeleteBut we don't have to worry about polio or a hundred other diseases; we don't have to worry about depression, war or nuclear holocaust (and hopefully it stays that way!) Regardless, I'll grant you, pizza is the answer to a lot of problems.
ReplyDeleteI know, Tom... we have come a long way and one of my personal mantras (?) that I tell myself most of the time is "the world is so full of wonderful things, you'd think that we'd all be as happy as kings"...
DeleteYes, there are a lot of things that can be more difficult or frightening. Progress doesn't always feel that way. But Tom has it right - some progress has been very good.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
Thanks, Mae.
DeleteBelated happy birthday! I'm glad it was fun! :-)
ReplyDeleteNot so much something to think about, but something that I realized over the weekend, after I bought watermelon slices: I'm old enough to remember when watermelon had seeds! LOL. What I bought did not. I guess they've "bred" seeds out of them?
BTW, a *really* fine single malt scotch can be the answer to a lot of things too. :-D
Ha! I like that last suggestion, Kim. I remember when we went to Loch Ness... and were visiting the castle, and later on a boat on the Loch - they served scotch (probably the thought there was the more scotch we drank, the more likely we were to see Nessie).
DeleteWell, happy belated birthday to you! And I just had to laugh out loud at that tubby friend of yours in the picture. It's a changing world, with lots to worry about, but much to enjoy and be amazed at. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan. Isn't he the sweetest bear? We were at a chocolate shop and he was sitting on the bench.
DeleteI turned on the car radio yesterday and heard "music of the 80's . . . the 80's when you never forgot a password because you never needed a password," and it made my chuckle.
ReplyDeleteYes... times have changed... and will continue to do so. Hopefully I can keep up.
DeleteBelated Happy Birthday and so glad it was such a good one. Pizza and Guinness, what is not to love. Ah yes we do have a lot of complications these days
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patti. As I said, with pizza and Guiness, I slept well.
DeleteHappy Birthday! a little late. We were without the Internet for five days and I hate to admit it but we both were lost. We do have a lot more to worry about these days, don't we. If some older folks like my great grandmother could come back today, she would think we were speaking a different language. Times has certainly changed in the last few years. My birthday is in September and I have already requested pizza for my gift, all the pizza I can eat.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Henny. Isn't it awful to be without the Internet? Sounds ridiculous, but truthfully, it's scary not to be connected. As for the pizza - I hope you get your birthday wish!
DeleteOh, I am with you Rian about the passwords. Since I live alone and the only one on my computer I write them down on file cards. Have to... this brain is not going to keep up with all that mess. Nor should it have to.
ReplyDeleteI do the same, Latane... no way I would remember them all.
DeleteThings certainly are different from when we grew up.
