Wishing Everyone
a
Happy Healthy New Year 2022!
(We made our traditional home-made eggnog
and watched the Crystal Ball go down on TV!)
Now cooking a pork roast, steamed cabbage with bacon, black eyed peas... and corn bread for our New Year's day dinner.
Texas has been in the 80's lately, but tonight winter comes... supposed to be in the 20's Sunday morning here...
(heat lamps are on for the ferals, blankets, and cat trees with hidey holes abound)
and before I leave I probably should say, "Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit!" (as we really need good luck for this month and every other in 2022)
...and
A very, very happy (and hopeful) New Year to you and yours. On the first of the month my first words were not White Rabbit, but good boy - as Jazz had his first tablet of the day with no complaints...
ReplyDeleteEC, I have to admit that my first words weren't White Rabbit either. They were something like, "We made it"... meaning we got through 2020 and 2021 and now just have to get through 2022. But very glad to hear that Jazz took his tablet with no complaints.
DeleteHappy new year! My goodness, that eggnog looks decadent! I was in bed and asleep at my usual early hour, I haven't stayed up to ring in the decade in so many years I've lost count. 😁
ReplyDeleteHere's to a GOOD 2022!
My mother-in-law made home-made eggnog for New Year every year and it is really good... especially with a little bourbon in it! I continue the tradition. I'm not much for eggnog in the stores (although the boys like it), but I love the home-made kind.
DeleteDarn I forgot again. Maybe one of these first of the months I'll remember the bunny.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to see the New Year come in. Afraid I didn't make it. Lets hope this one is a bit nicer than the predecessors. Happy New Year Rian.
Yes, I agree, Patti. It shouldn't take much for 2022 to be a little better than the last 2... and I'm cautiously optimistic??
DeleteI have never heard of anyone making homemade eggnog but you. It looks so delicious! Wish I could just reach in and have a glass. You are so good the the ferals. Thank you! Happy New Year to you and your husband. Oh, I appreciate your last post.
ReplyDeleteReally, Henny? I guess with all the eggnog in the stores during the holiday season, it's not necessary to make your own anymore... but we love it.
DeleteThat eggnog looks simply perfect! And the community cats do seem happy, well taken care of, and lucky to be in your circle of light. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteOur temps are dropping rapidly. Just noticed our windows were frosting... so checked temp. We are at 44 right now at 4:30 pm. If we really go down to the 20's tomorrow, it may be the first day to use the fireplace (It was too warm for Thanksgiving and Christmas).
DeleteLove the eggnog. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Tom!
DeleteHappy New Year! I've never tasted eggnog but that looks delicious. I did manage to stay awake until midnight to ensure that 2021 went away.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and yours in 2022!
I'll tell you, Mae. The home-made kind (IMO) isn't as sweet as the store bought.
DeleteHappy New Year!
We also like to make homemade eggnog. And yes, I'm in Denton and still in bed cause it's freezing. It went from 60 to 20 yesterday in a few hours.
ReplyDeleteYes, the temps have definitely dropped. 26 F here now. Not in bed, but still have my warm jammies and socks on...
DeleteI'm an eggnog lover of old, yours looks delicious !
ReplyDeleteThe strangest of weather, but hoping for just a dusting of snow, and not an accumulation.
Wishing you and yours a Blessed and Happy New Year Rian, here's to a Healthier year for all !
Hugs,
~Jo
Thanks, Jo. Wishing you the same... a happy healthy safe 2022!
Deletewe were in bed by 10 pm on new years eve, it has never been a holiday that we celebrate!!
ReplyDeletei have seen people post "rabbit, rabbit" but i never knew what it meant!! your meal sounds delicious, i made one of my home chef meals - pasta, it was delicious!!
We used to go out to a New Year's dinner in the past... but the weather is almost always bad and we stopped doing this years ago. Actually prefer staying home by the fireplace, drinking eggnog, and watching old movies until the crystal ball comes down (in NY... which is only 11pm here).
DeleteAnd I only heard of Rabbit Rabbit a few years ago (tradition for luck). I do wonder how it began...
i did a double take when i read your comment on my blog today, 20 degrees in texas. when i read it in your post here, i figured it was a typo, i guess not!! i got my snow!!
DeleteRabbit, rabbit etc. for you too. Why are we being punished?
ReplyDeleteFunny, so many of us start cooking hearty meals in winter; I did too, chicken thighs with spinach and lots of other leftover ingredients; the mess was quite palatable.
Hi Friko, thanks for commenting. I don't think we're being punished... but possibly that was a rhetorical question. Things happen and perhaps we'll never know the reason why, but I do think how we handle what happens is important.
DeleteMy favorite winter meal is red beans and rice... hearty and comforting!
