Here's a funny story... well, not terribly funny, but it was funny at the time. I fell out of bed the other night. We have one of those high dark pine 4-poster beds. DH made me a 2 step step stool for it a while back. We've had both the bed and the step for years. Anyway, beings I have to get up several times during the night to use the facilities (due to age), I generally do this half asleep.
Saturday night (actually it was probably very early Sunday morning), I just turned over and hopped out. (I don't really hop... but that's what it feels like). As my legs hit the floor, my right leg collapsed (like jello). It had apparently fallen asleep and would not hold my weight (which isn't that terribly much at 120). I sat there on the floor for a minute trying to figure out what happened.
As I sat there, I heard DH's voice from the bed saying, "Are you OK?" (He couldn't see me as the bed is higher than my head from where I sat on the floor). I answered, "I think so. My leg fell asleep..."
I wasn't hurt (luckily), but it did make me pause. I now think to do this alighting from the bed slower... and more carefully during the night.
I could have looked for dust bunnies under the bed... |
when I read this, I thought, 'what a good idea" |
Also...
since we needed a 'pick me up' (no pun intended)...
DH got us Krispie Kreme donuts and I made us a buttermilk pie
Life is good!
Happy 2's day!

I'm glad you were okay! (I like the idea of leaving snacks all over the house. Ha. I also like your idea of a "pick me up!")
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm "only" 57 and I've been getting up at least twice a night for the past few years, for bio breaks. I guess that doesn't bode well for the future!
Thanks, I'm fine. And I thought that was a good idea about the snacks too.(ha)
DeleteAs for getting up in the night, I didn't have that problem until my 70's... but it does interfere with a good night's sleep. Luckily I can usually get back to sleep fairly quickly.
Rian I am very glad you're okay, that is one big bed! Anyway, I did laugh at both of your memes--and your comments on both of them 😄! I can't decide what I like about you better, your sense of humor or being a feral cat lady 🙂♥️👍
ReplyDeleteDad was from London, so my sense of humor may be a bit dry. But I do find it better to laugh at myself at times. I have a close friend that fell while getting up at night and broke her hip... so I know one needs to be careful.
DeleteI echo Dug's comment! I am so glad you weren't hurt and managed to make a funny post out of the experience to boot! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan. Just goes to show you that things to post about can be a bit thin. We're getting ready for another few days in the 20's... so will be staying inside pretty much this week. Plan to watch a series called "Raising Dion" which my daughter told me about. It reminds me a lot of a story I wrote called "The Whisperer"...
DeleteYes that was funny only because you weren't hurt. I love the treats idea but my dog would scarf those up.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Patti. And no, the treat idea wouldn't work if you have a dog...
DeleteThat would have scared the bejammers out of me. Glad you are not hurt...much.
ReplyDeleteNo, not hurt... just surprised.
DeleteGlad you weren't hurt but do be careful. I'm a little jealous about the treats -- or maybe it's the 120 pounds.
ReplyDeleteI intend to be more careful, Olga. And I do like my treats... but with Gluten-free, IC, and migraines, I do have to avoid a lot.
Deleteyou could also write that as 2-22-22 and it is all 2's!! good thing you did not get hurt on that fall, hips break easier the "closer we get to the finish line"!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Debbie, 2-22-22 looks better!
DeleteWell, I'm glad you didn't yourself and I love that first meme! Yum, pie and donuts.
ReplyDeleteMae, I'm not a big fan of donuts, but a warm Krispy Kreme that melts in your mouth is pretty good. And when it comes to pie... a good bittersweet chocolate pie with home-made whipped cream is my favorite, but buttermilk and custard pies take close seconds.
DeleteSounds like a great pick-me-up. So glad you did not injure yourself. thus far my midnight forays into the bathroom have been safe.
ReplyDeleteYes, those middle of the night forays need care... so easy to fall or trip when you're half asleep.
