What makes you smile?

Since my no arms one-eyed froggy is a keeper, I started to think about what other things actually make me smile or laugh. One of the first things that came to mind is the song "All God's Creatures have a place in the Choir".  Every time I hear that, it makes me smile. Not sure if it's the words or the melody, but I love it. DH says he may have it played at my funeral/memorial service. Told him it was fine with me, but not sure it was appropriate.

I'm going to try to add the video of Celtic Thunder from You Tube here because these guys make me laugh singing it.

 Celtic Thunder

Isn't that great?

Watching the kittens play outside makes DH and I both smile. Kittens are so funny - the way they sneak around and pounce on things (even each other)... and how they jump straight up in the air when surprised... and puff up like little powder puffs!

Of course kids and grandkids make us smile too... especially when they're young and say or do something adorable.  I do remember the
first time my first baby (oldest son) smiled. Some babies do it at earlier ages, but he was 3 months old when he cracked that first crooked smile (I was feeding him at the time)... my heart exploded!

I guess there are many many other things I could list here, but not going to do that. Just wanted to make you think of what things might make you smile... and perhaps you'd like to share.

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

*BTW, finally got our omicron vaccine this week. Glad that's done.

  1. I grew up on Irish bands that didn't gyrate, they sang. They could dance the Irish jig. Occasionally they included a violin, bodhran (the traditional Irish drum), and always a penny whistle.Celtic Thunder copy all their music nicely, but are completely second rate compared to the original.

    1. I love Irish music, Joanne... but I enjoy the way the Celtic Thunder men 'play around' while they're singing "All God's creatures". They make me smile/laugh (and that's a good thing).

  3. This is a song I didn't know - and it made my non musical self smile. Thank you. Beauty makes me smile - where ever I find it. And I hear you about kitten play.

  4. I've actually never heard of that song, though I'm not sure I'd have a place in any choir, with my croaky, off key voice. Haha.

At this time of year, all the holiday decorations make me smile. :-)

    1. Kim, everyone and everything has a place in the choir (if it had anything to do with the quality of our singing, I'd be left out for sure). And I know Derry makes you smile!

  5. I know what made me smile this morning, at least--reading your take on kittens and your first born's first smile. This was very sweet Rian... :^)

    1. There are so many things that make us smile, Dug. But sometimes we tend to forget as they may be fleeting moments (and then there are a few that remain in our hearts forever).

  6. Kitten antics also make me smile, and since I don't have any to look at (just one grumpy old male cat), I go to YouTube and enjoy some videos, which always gladden my heart. I am feeling quite festive today after getting a good night's sleep. Your posts always make me smile, BTW. :-)

    1. DJan, I love the fact that I (in any way, shape, or form) could make you smile...
And a good night's sleep is a wonderful gift at our age!

  7. There's a long list of things that make me smile, Here are a few - my hairdresser who provides entertainment with a cut; my 16 mo old little neighbor; snow angels who clear snow; anticipation of a holiday; a good card game with friends; a full moon on the snow at night.

  8. A fan of Irish music and enjoyed the Celtic Thunder. Especially the guy with the dancing eyebrows. They had fun with the song which made me have fun listening.
Basically any baby animal brings forth a smile from me.

    1. I couldn't agree more, Patti... baby animals are adorable. And I love almost all forms of Irish music, but these guys (Celtic Thunder - and I don't believe this particular group of guys are still together) were fun... and since they were singing this song... well, I had to share.

  9. So many things make me smile: my grandson especially, small children, the birds feeding at the feeder, watching/listening to my nearly 15 year old cat zooming down the hallway, a friendly clerk at a store., a hug from my adult children.
Simple things really but some of the best moments of my life.

    1. All this is true, Mae... simple things... and although a lot of the same things make most of us smile, sometimes there are a few personal incidents that bring a special inner smile to our hearts.

  10. That was a lovely topic for a post! I may steal it (ha ha!). Kittens make me smile, too, and babies. I always catch a baby's eye when I'm out shopping (hopefully don't seem too creepy to the parent (s)!). Since I have a bit of a warped sense of humour, I'm pretty sure I want Monty Python's "Always look on the Bright Side of Life" played at my funeral! -Jenn

    1. Ha! Jenn, I'm not sure if Monty Python's song is appropriate for a funeral either... but it is a personal thing... and these days anything that lifts people's spirits is a go for me. My cousins had a guitar player play "Galway Girl" in the church at my aunt's funeral... and it certainly made me smile.

  11. Dear Rian, I tell you what makes me smile----this posting and the antics and singing of Celtic Thunder. I'd never before heard of that group and I just was clapping along and loving the song (which I'd never heard before!) and the way the five men "lived" the music. Thank you. As to other smiles, like you, kittens and cats and the independence just delights me. Peace from Dee Ready

    1. I know, Dee! How can you watch this and not smile? Hope you are enjoying the holidays. I'm just back from another 2 days with my friend who had surgery. She is doing a bit better and I'm sure everyone's prayers are helping. Thank you all.

    1. Yes, it's great to laugh about things. DH and I laugh about a lot... mostly ourselves. And when I spend time with my friend who just had surgery, we reminisce on all the trips we took together and laugh at all the close calls we had. Sharing memories can make you smile/laugh.
