time on my hands...

I'm putting this on to too much time on my hands... time when I should be putting Christmas away or cleaning my house, etc. However, recently I've come up with a new storyline for another sequel to my first 2 books (Time After Time & Carrick Cove)

There's a possibility that there could be another - maybe a "Return to Carrick Cove"?

However,  it took almost 3 years for the second book to come out, so (at my age), I possibly need to work faster. But as I've said before, a story tends to evolve in its own time. I had fully expected Carrick Cove to be the end of Annie's story, but apparently there's more to tell.

On another note

Today DH and I checked out 3 stores (Trader Joe's, Central Market, and one of the new HEB's). We've heard a lot about Trader Joe's recently and thought maybe we needed to give it a try. I have to say that although it was interesting, we weren't that impressed. We did pick up 3 things; a GF stuffing mix, a box of protein bars that look very similar to the KIND ones we buy at Walmart but half the price, and a can of artichoke hearts/bottoms.

At CM, we did our usual weekly shopping, and stopped by HEB to pick up the Brown Cow yogurt that I like - and although CM has it in Vanilla (which is good), HEB is the only one that has it in chocolate. And of course while we were there,  DH picked up half (yes, they sell halfs!) of a freshly made pecan pie. And I will say that pecan pies are not usually my favorite as they can be too sweet for my taste. But this one was excellent. We had some with coffee this afternoon.

Something else we came across this week was a new Stouffer's frozen entree.  I don't usually eat these, but the boys like their 3-Meat Lasagna (not gluten-free). Anyway, DH came across a Stouffer's Chicken Enchiladas that uses corn tortillas (I always use flour tortillas in mine - and I can get GF flour tortillas). But since it was using corn and not flour, I ate some... and it was good (not great, but good)... lots of rice in it which I found strange, but I like rice so no problem.

Closing this with this grocery meme:

I now carry a small plastic spray bottle of water so that I can open those stupid plastic bags...

Hugs (virtual),

Rian

  1. I laughed out loud at the image of you opening that plastic bag... for ages. Love your sense of humor, Rian. And I'll now be expecting that third book sometimes in the next few years! :-)

    1. I know I'm not the only one who has struggled with those plastic bags... but I saw another lady carrying a small bottle of water once and thought 'good idea!'.
As for the 3rd book... we'll see how it plays out. At the moment, DJan, I'm shocked that there is more to Annie's story. Who knew?

  2. I read to just lick two fingers, and the open end of the bag will open right up. Usually means I have to drop my public mask for bit. And it's only MY germs on the bag I'm taking home. Linda in Kansas

    1. I know this is what would work, DM, but I really don't want to lick my fingers when my hands have been touching things in the grocery... silly of me probably, but still.

  3. You are so funny, Rian! I too have trouble with those bags and keep looking for wet veggies in the produce department to stick one finger on so I can open the bag.

I am so in awe of your ability to write amazing books. I'm having such a hard time just getting our family photobook with stories to explain photos done.

    1. "Looking for wet veggies"... never thought of that. That would work too. And believe me, getting together family photos (just sorting through them) is a job!

  4. Those plastic bags are the invention of the devil. Mind you, some of our stores are no longer carrying them. You have to purchase re-usable bags instead.
I hope (so much) that you continue to write. The muse doesn't seem ready to let you go.

    1. Oh EC, I will continue to write... just whether or not I decide to publish will be the issue. I love writing and apparently... my muse is back.
And as for the plastic bags, the only store that carries bags that have no problem opening is Central Market. Their plastic bags are sturdy and easily opened (probably more expensive too - but believe me their customers appreciate them).

  5. That small spray bottle is a GREAT idea! I usually look for produce sitting on ice and grab a tiny bit of the ice to wet my hands. Otherwise I'd never get out of the store, trying to open the plastic, per your meme! :-D

    1. The tiny spray bottle does work well... and I've lent it to others who are having difficulty, Kim. Most of the time I'm picking up potatoes or bananas and there's no produce on ice around, but that would work too.

  6. as i visited today and looked at your header picture, i thought you should change it. i know you are a cat lover but you are so much more than that. if you want to make a collage, you should include your book covers, your art, your baking, quilts and a few of your fur babies. just a thought, from someone who visits often!!

i remember your market and it is so wonderful. i have been to trader joes and like you, not impressed!! we love stoffers mac and cheese and i think it is better than my homemade. what a great meme, made me laugh out loud!! a small, wet sponge would probably work also!!

    1. Debbie, I appreciate your idea about changing my header pic, but I do so like to see our cats there... perhaps, after a while I may change it... but not just yet.
And I agree that Stouffer's (and Marie Callender) makes some good frozen dishes - most are not gluten-free for me, but the guys like them.
And yes, one could carry a wet sponge. That would work.
