an overdue update and a few pics...

red pepper from our yard

DH brought in this new red pepper from our yard yesterday. It's so pretty I had to post it. Usually our peppers get eated by something before they get to this size...

And before I continue this post, I need to say that I had written a post earlier in the week and was getting ready to publish it yesterday... when it just 'disappeared'. I was shocked... and tried to get it back, but no luck.

So, I'm starting again today. As you know (if you read my posts) we had company (DH's brother and SIL) visiting last weekend. It was a great visit... with time spent eating out at favorite restaurants, visiting the Peach Orchard, and reminising and talking for hours at home. DH made his red beans and rice one night and I made stuffed artichokes as well as both a Dark Chocolate pie with bourbon whipped cream and a buttermilk pie (DH's brother's favorite).

However... during their visit, I started coughing (I have a chronic cough supposedly due to radiation years ago) a lot... more of a loose wheezing cough. This was different. Anyway, I went to my PCP on Monday to have it checked out. She gave me  a steroid injection and a Rx steroids and said it was probably bronchitis. Since I didn't have a fever nor a sore throat, she put off the Rx antibiotics for now.

Then by Tuesday DH was coughing also... so he went in the doctor's. They tested him for Covid and Strep. He was negative for Covid and positive for Strep! So... they asked me to come in and be tested. I did. Same result... negative for Covid, but positive for Strep...???

Neither of us has a sore throat, nor a fever. Doctor says sometimes that happens...?? Now both of us are on Rx antibiotics and had to call our weekend company and inform them. Sure hope they don't get sick.

So far, so good, talked to them yesterday (7 days since they arrived here lastThursday) and no one is sick. Fingers crossed!!

Now... enough of that. Here's a video of one of our larger box turtles that visit our yard and eat the dry cat food. DH brought him inside for a minute to show me. We have many smaller ones, but this is a big guy.

(always remember to click on small box to get video to enlarge)

... and a few pictures that I like:

and...

Have a great weekend!  (Two of my favorite bloggers were in hospital recently. Sure hope you are both home and doing well...)

  2. So sorry to hear you are both ill. I have had strep several times and always had the horribly sore throat. I'm iffy on Covid tests. I tested negative last fall a few times but the doctors are pretty sure my heart issue is Covid related. I think it depends on the window of testing or something. Darn disease!
Anyway - hope you both are feeling better. It sounds like your guests may have avoided the strep (yay!) and the pepper looks fabulous!

    1. We are recovering... still on antibiotics, but cough is better. It does seem strange that Strep is just a congested cough... and nothing else, but they did test. I hate taking meds and normally don't take anything but Tylenol and Vitamin D3 (and B-12 injections). But I will take antibiotics if they feel it's necessary. Hope your "issues" resolve themselves. I'm sure they have you on all kinds of meds... and I know it's necessary... but hopefully no side effects.

  3. Hi Rian. Your turtle video gave me a chuckle, I wish those were longer! Anyway, loved reading about the family visit, but I sure hope you and DH are recovering from all that nasty strep. 🤒

    1. So glad to hear from you, Dug. Worried that you were still in the hospital. I hope you are home and recovering well. We are both still on antibiotics, but getting better. There's more to the story... will post about it later. Take care and looking forward to your next post.

  4. i hate when i lose a post, or even a comment. i put a lot of thought into both so it is disappointing, especially losing an entire post. funny, well not funny, but i had strep throat while i was in the hospital. i had a lot of things wrong, i wasn't worried about my sore throat but my husband mentioned it to the doctor and i tested positive for strep. i have never had a sore throat like that, the back of my throat was bright red and the area looked like one big sore. i am happy to hear the visit with your company went well, fingers crossed they don't get it. i need those kittens to visit me...i wish it were that easy!! oooooh and the pepper, sure does look yummy!! my garden needs help, although the husband did try!!

    1. Oh, Debbie, I too hate it when I lose a post. Lost a whole chapter of one of my stories once... (I cried). But won't let that affect me anymore. Yes, it's sad... but it's not the end of the world, right? So sorry you had strep... I find it hard to believe that we were positive for strep, but negataive for Covid... since it was/is mostly coughing... no sore throat, no fever. But whatever... antibiotics and steroids seem to be controling it. And kittens always make me smile! Take care, my friend... hope you are home and feeling better.
