Life goes on... at least it does until it doesn't. DH and I are still coughing, but not as much. Here's the thing...
As I mentioned in the previous post, we had company from June 4 (Thurs) through June 7 (Sun). On Tuesday both DH and I were tested positive for Strep and negative for covid...and put on antibiotics.
As it turns out, our company (DH's brother and wife) started coughing the next weekend (about 5-6 days after leaving our house). I was sure we'd given them Strep. BUT... as it turns out, they tested negative for Strep and positive for covid ??? Huh???
They were told that since Covid was viral, they didn't need antibiotics, so they are on cough meds and nasal sprays. We are finishing up our antibiotics and doing better, but just wonder at the strangeness of all this???

Update on critters:
Can't remember if I told you that the box turtles are now joining the cats and raccoons at coming right up to the French door window and stretching their little necks to look in. It's so funny...
And... George Cooney (our night raccoon that comes by every night around 9 or 10pm) brought his family with him last night! If we're correct in this, he brought either a wife and 4 babies. They climbed down the tree by the back porch and were enjoying the treats (which last night was left over steak fries and a part of a peach coffee cake). I would have taken a pic, but they were all over the place and it was dark.

On the home front:
We're watching The Big C... on Netflix. It should be depressing, but it's not... kind of funny. Getting a little sad towards the end of Season 4.
And I'm re-reading one of my favorite books, Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine - a story of a modern woman who seems to be a re-incarnation of Matilda, Lady of Hay, during the time of King John (12th Century). Jo's a journalist researching the possibility of past lives, but through hypnosis and regression becomes hopelessly emeshed in Matilda's life... and death.
And that's it for this week. Being handed off to other specialists... Eye surgeon wants me to go see an Ophthamologist to watch my eye. My immediate doctor is an Opthamology surgeon and if I don't want another surgery (I don't), he recommended someone to keep an eye on my eye. And my PCP sent me to a Pulmonologist to check on my chronic coughing. They ran all kinds of breathing tests (which weren't easy since I have bronchitis at the moment). But she is sending me to have a swallowing test with barium. I have to say that I liked her a lot. She listened and asked a million questions. Since I have a chronic cough, aspirate, and can't swallow pills well... she thinks this test will help diagnose my problem. We'll see.

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

I hope you and DH are recovering. Who knows how these bugs get us.
ReplyDeleteI recall reading e Lady of Hay but have no recollection of the storyline.
I enjoy historical fiction... and this one covers all the points; history, past lives, research, etc. My other favorite from the past is Galway Bay by Mary Pat Kelly. As for our strep... we are both finished our antibiotics, still coughing, but not as much. It may take some time.
DeleteAlways enjoy a new post from you Rian, and that is indeed strange about your company's cough and your own. Covid or not though, it's still a chore to live with. Enjoyed reading about your critters too, especially that big box turtle! Would love to see that from myself... and if you ever have Netflix recommendations, would love to hear em now that I have it too. Gosh Rian, I am earnestly praying your eye finally heals...❤️🙏
ReplyDeleteDug, my eye may never been the same... looks OK, but since it's possibly not completely closing, it's prone to dry eye - which may or may not be controlled with moisterizers, etc. That's the reason for seeing the Opthamologist... to make sure it doesn't affect my sight.
DeleteI will try to get more videos of our backyard critters to post. They are definitely entertaining. Meanwhile, hope you heal well from your surgery and maybe, just maybe the meds from the surgery will somehow help with the long covid... maybe? We can only hope... yes?
Rian I was really hoping that too--that all those days of meds & antibiotics and such would help put a damper on the LC. But it's a hard beast to get rid of.
DeleteHi Ryan, glad to hear from you. I hope you and your husband are feeling better and better. These illnesses are tricky and honestly, these tests seem suspect. I know I took 2-3 covid tests last December and they were all negative. Now they are thinking it was either Influenza B or Covid that caused my lung infection that led to congesitive heart failure. But we can only do what we can do. And good job keeping up with your appointments. As much as we complain, they really are necessary. I'm glad you have a good pulmonologist.
ReplyDeleteMiss Merry, we are doing better... and strangely enough, are all on different meds (due to different PCP's).They put DH on cough meds with codiene and a Z-pack, me on Amoxicillin and a steroid pack, and BIL and SIL on nasal sprays and mucinex DM. I seem to be coughing less now than DH (maybe due to the steroid pack). Anyway, we are doing better. Hope you are feeling better these days too.
DeleteOh gosh... I'm so sorry you're both got sick. It took me a whole month to be more or less recovered from my cold. I'm still not strong though and have to build up my strength. I'm glad you're on the upswing too. And yes, I know what that residual cough is like.
ReplyDeleteKay, glad to hear that you are 'more or less' recovered from your cold. The cough part does seem to go on forever.
DeleteWhat interesting times, all the different meds for differently named conditions. I just hope you feel better...all of you! soon!! I have to watch my own breathing treatments, and when I think I'm doing well, know that I can't skip the nebulizer nor Mucinex. Coughing keeps me away from many group functions...and may continue to do so (with the chronic Bronchiectasis). I hope your situation clears up completely for you!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I still wear a mask around people... as my coughing is kind of a downer. And I've often wondered about Bronchiectasis... although none of my doctors have mentioned that.
Deletei had strep throat a while ago and my throat still hurts. getting old...being sick, such a bummer!! good luck or should i say best wishes with that eye, that sure has been a lot for you!! that looks just like you in "life"!!
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie! Sorry about the sore throat. I can't believe we had strep and NO SORE THROAT... so strange. The eye is a 'lifer' I think... we'll see what the new doctor thinks.
DeleteTake care, I laughed at your last post about 'talking to anyone'... my mom was like that.
(not me... I rarely talk unless I know you well).
