We have an affinity for turtles. I think lots of people do. But it seems that each generation (if they have the same affinity/attraction) goes
a step further. I loved horses (rode but never owned one), my daughter got to own 2 as a child, and now my grand daughter has 3. See where I'm going here? Now I always liked turtles and we have several box turtles that make our yard (which goes down to a creek) their home . Growing up, my daughter was forever rescuing turtles and tortoises from the roads and bringing them home to deposit in the creek.
Now my grand daughter owns several; 2 African Sulcatas, 1 Russian, 1 Red Footed, and 3 baby Red Sliders. She studies what kind of environment and diet each needs and provides special habitats for each. See?...
a step further.
Don't ask me why this subject became my post today because I really couldn't tell you. Sometimes I must refer to by mind as my *monkey mind*.... as it keeps jumping around to unrelated subjects.
A while back I said that I was going to post some of my old poems, stories, sketches, whatever
, daily. Well, obviously (and fortuitously for you) I haven't done that. They say that life is what happens to us when we're planning something else... well, apparently that's true. I get caught up with 'other things' and forget said plans. But that's OK. Hopefully we'll have lots of time together. I'll get around to it
eventually.

DeleteI think it's fascinating, all these turtles. I don't know anything about turtles, really, though I do have a turtle tattoo on my right upper arm. Does that count? :-)

ReplyDeleteSometimes I get so *caught up* with one thing, that everything else kind of slides... but eventually I get to it all. I find the world a very busy place (even with retirement). Today I just got home from the pottery studio (back hurting from working on my chess board for 4 hours)and planning to come home and nap... only to find my kids there with new grandbaby... so she and I got to play for a while! She's getting so big so quick (3 months already).

ReplyDeleteRe baking ...daughters partner Vicki has found an 'App' ....not even sure what one is ... that converts US recipes to UK at the touch of a button ...and vice versa ...could be useful.

DeleteI had turtles as pets when I was a child and I did love them then and I still do! Now as an adult, one of my collections are turtles and tortoises. I have then everywhere in my home :)Great photos BTW!!!
ReplyDeleteI also loved horses when growing-up, but we didn't have a place for them in the suburbs of Chicago. But as an adult I was finally able to own horses of my own. We sold them all a while back, when the kids all grew-up and left home.
I enjoyed your page of sketches...I would also love to see more of them and your writings!

DeleteWe didn't have a place for a horse when I was growing up either. We lived in the city of New Orleans. But luckily there were stables around where I was able to ride.
Lucky turtles to be taken in by your daughter. I like turtles and have a stuffed on in the back window of my car. :) Your sketches are very good...you definitely have a talent. I would love to see more.... You asked me on my blog what I used to edit my picture. I use Picmonkey....befunky...and ipiccy. they are all free editing sites. To color things I use their lipstick and eye shadow. LOL try it and have fun. Take a picture of one of your sketches and put it on picmonkey and play around with it. It is very easy...I promise!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Dee... "lucky turtles". Animals that need a home tend to find their way to her house. My S-I-L once found 7 baby puppies on the side of the road on his way home from work one night. They took care of them until they all found homes (kept one - who is my grand daughter's constant companion).

Now I have cats and a dog but my bathroom is home to a few ceramic turtles. For now, that will have to do. I'm now following and hope to meet your cats. Deb
ReplyDeleteWelcome Deb! So glad you came visiting. The outside cats and box turtles in our yard eat from the same bowls. Occasionally the younger cats will follow a turtle as he heads back to the creek. It's like a little parade.
DeleteI'm always envious of people who have the ability to sketch. I'd love to keep a sketchbook, but, unfortunately, I have no artistic talent. I have to explore my world with words.

DeleteThat's an interest which would be very difficult to follow in the UK, Rian, where we don't have turtles or tortoises in the wild, except for visiting leatherbacks on the far south-west coast. We had a pet tortoise when I was a child, but even that has become very expensive today.
