the weekend continues...

I was supposed to go to the pottery studio yesterday afternoon, but instead sat by the fireplace with DH and Tux staying warm. It was 36 degrees outside, pouring rain, and there was a cold North wind blowing.  We put the heat lamps out back for the ferals, extra straw around for warmth, and DH opened the garage a crack so the kittens could get inside should the weather get really nasty. They're forecasting more rain and cold tomorrow and possibly sleet and snow by Sunday.

This is the weekend before the kids arrive for Thanksgiving so there's lots to do... planning, cleaning, cooking, etc.  We cleaned the ceiling fans earlier today... some are quite an ordeal since the ceilings in the  den and front room are very high, but we did the best we could (and no casualties). I dusted the front room and den and washed down the kitchen counters and appliances. There's an LSU football game on this afternoon, so I won't get much more out of DH once that starts.

This is my work area. Once my tiles are fired, I can work on under-glazing them at home. Then of course, I need to get them back to the studio to fire again.  It's messy, but it's fun. I've been playing around with actually putting the color on in different ways, sometimes my fingers, sometimes a brush, and sometimes a sponge... and letting one color dry and layering on a different one on top.

  1. Very cozy looking fireside. Has it been unusually cold for your area?

    1. Olga, this is the first winter weather we've had so far... and we don't do cold well... so anytime we get below freezing or ice, we tend to shut down and hibernate.

  2. Ah, getting ready for the onslaught. It sure looks cozy in that first picture. How can anybody fault your approach? And thanks for taking care of the ferals like that. :-0

    1. DJan, I think you brave the cold a lot better than most. And our little ferals are brave too. They snuggle up at night (usually under the heat lamps), but are out playing around in the morning cold... brr-rrr!

  3. That looks like a cosy fire Rian, and the cats are certainly enjoying it.
Don't get so busy that you don't enjoy the family when they arrive, you don't want to be tired.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend,

    Diana

    1. Oh, no... I don't overdo anymore. Used to go crazy cleaning and cooking... now, I do the only the niceties... clean sheets and towels, fresh coffee, and good food!

  4. Oh, that first shot looks so cosy...It's minus 20 Celsius right now with the windchill. Whatever that is in degrees F. Just freaking freezing, is what it is. LOL. We're so glad the ferals have YOU!

BTW, since you managed your high ceiling fans without injury (yay!), could you teleport over here and paint my stairwell? :-)

    1. Kim, I haven't painted much (walls that is), but DH and I plan to paint our bedroom a light blue to match our new quilt... sometime after the holidays. I would have liked to have done it before... but it just didn't happen.
And if I lived close to you, you can be sure that I would lend a hand with your stairwell.

  5. It's been a cold weekend in a lot of places, Rian. We stayed indoors in the warm too. Good luck with your Thanksgiving preparations.
