Here's our little grand daughter in her 3 Halloween costumes from ages 1 to almost 3!
Halloween Bat (First Halloween) |
Halloween Cat (Second Halloween) |
Halloween Witch (3rd Halloween) |
We did decorate the front some... not a lot. We do basically the same thing each Halloween.
... and we did get quite a few more *trick or treaters* this year... mostly young ones between 2 and 10. Some of the costumes on the little ones were really adorable.
Our yard has a 6 foot fence and offers some sanctuary for the feral cats at any time, but we also left the garage door open a few inches to give them a safe place to be... not only during Halloween but during all the heavy rainfall lately.
Here's a picture of one of the big male ferals that comes around occasionally. He was here yesterday.

And of course I need to show you what the art (ceramic) department has been working on at the college this semester. They did several thousand red poppies to honor the Texas Veterans - a smaller tribute than the European one that was done to honor their fallen - but lovely and very effective.

I'm practicing carving on the vase... and just wish I had done my vines and leaves with a little more flow. As for the cat sculpture, I know his ears are big ( I call him airplane ears)... but for whatever reason, DH and I liked him and didn't want to cut them back...??
The other things are just me playing with clay at home...

I think all your sculptures are wonderful! It doesn't have to be perfect or end up in an art gallery to be amazing. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe ceramic poppies are wonderful too, a fitting remembrance. Our Remembrance Day is coming up on November 11th (Canada, presume other Commonwealth countries as well), so of course many of us are sporting poppies now, on our lapels.
It's nice to see that feral looking so fit, btw. No doubt thanks to your care! As for Tux, that look is showing off his huge eyes to full advantage. :-)
No, Kim, they don't have to be perfect by any means... just sometimes the results please you and sometimes they don't. I do like the cat, but not so much the vase.
DeleteAnd yes, the feral does look fit. He and his father are both handsome dudes. I know they should both be caught and neutered, but good luck with that!
I know that look, except my tux has the pathos lilt included. Your sculptures are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne. Tux is a very... for lack of a better description... *sensitive* cat. His feelings get hurt easily. If he's on my lap and I pet or talk to one of the other cats, he will leave in a huff. If I'm reading or knitting or whatever, he expects me to stop immediately and tend to him. You can see from his expression that he can't believe that I'm not putting down my knitting.
DeleteI don't do much decorating at all, lights and ingredients cost dollars i don't have but that doesn't prevent me from appreciating all the ones I see here and in person. let he clay flow as it may, there is wonderful work occurring behind the scenes
ReplyDeleteI do believe that it is the process... and not necessarily the outcome that is where joy lies...
Deleteyour work is wonderful to my eye especially the vase and cat, lots of personality to both, and love seeing children's costumes
DeleteYour grand-daughter is adorable, Rian. I love to see the little ones dressed up and so excited. Looks like you are having fun with clay lately. I really like the cat. :)
ReplyDeleteDeb, I agree the little ones are so cute in their costumes.
DeleteAnd yes, I am having fun !
Cute photos of your grand daughter, what a sweetie. And that look on Tux's face - well...
ReplyDeleteDiana
Yeh... "the look" says a lot.
DeleteI have a cat just like that. She will stand up on her hind legs balancing against the chair arm, meow really loud, and pat me on the arm with her paw (tap, tap, tap) when she thinks she is in need of some attention. Always when I am in the middle of something that I need to be concentrating on.
ReplyDeleteVic, don't I know it!. Tux will squeeze himself onto my lap when I'm knitting or reading... and actually grab my hands... virtually saying 'stop that and pet me'... which I will do, then continue on with my activity until he grabs my hands again...
DeleteCats and grandkids sure fill your life! Glad to see you've been busy with so many creative pursuits too.
ReplyDeleteIt's strange. I sometimes wonder how I ever had time to work...
DeleteYour grand daughter looks so cute in her costumes.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John
