quilting, knitting, new purchase, grandbabies, and cats...

A few updates...

Eye surgeries and Time:

Have been trying to decide whether to use this time (between eye surgeries) to start knitting or go back to quilting again. I can't do my exercise classes nor my pottery classes for a few weeks, so I have time on my hands to do things that don't require too much exertion - told not to pick up anything over 10 lbs, not to bend over but keep head up over heart, raise head upon sleeping, and put my eyedrops in 4X daily.

I'm eager to quilt... so may take a run to Fabric Fanatics this week. And although I have plenty of yarn about, may also check out a few yarn shops.

New Purchase:

We did purchase a new refrigerator this week. Our old one is still working, but is 16 years old and we have to keep a heavy bottle of water in front of the door to keep it closed. With the Labor Day Sales Monday, we found one we liked and went ahead and got it. They will be delivering it tomorrow. The old one will go into the garage. This one is a Kitchenaid French Door model, but not one that has all the bells and whistles. Some have too many doors inside for my taste. Here is a picture of the one we purchased.

It's pretty simple, but had the necessary requirements. We did like a certain LG model, but it was one that had all these plastic doors inside... and we decided that we didn't really need or want that. And our old one is a Kitchenaid and has been very reliable over the years.

Grandbaby:

Our 3 year old grand daughter has become enamored with Spiderman. So... after her bath the other night, her mom let her dress herself and this is what she came out with.
Interesting outfit, yes?

As you can tell, she was pretty proud of herself and her get-up!

Ghost's new favorite spot:

Ghost has taken over one of the two large arm chairs in the living room. We don't use this area much except in the winter when we sit by the fireplace. But for whatever reason, Ghost has chosen this chair as her new favorite spot.

And last, but not least... a picture of two of the outdoor ferals laying about on the back patio.

The little Siamese kitten is the youngest out there at the moment. But she has several black teen-age brothers or cousins around that seem to take care good care of her.

  1. My mother was a quilter and I have fond memories of the quilting frames taking up most of the space in the living room. She knitted as well and that is something I picked up from her. My dad used to say that neither of us could sit and do nothing. Very true.

Your granddaughter is quite the character!

Wishing you all the best in your healing.

    1. Eileen, although I'm pretty good at sitting and doing nothing (in the right setting), I do like to have a project to work on (quilting, knitting, pottery, etc.) And yes, my grand daughter is quite a character... with a strong personality to boot!

  2. I'm afraid I'd have to snatch that Siamese beauty and bring it in. I couldn't resist. Aren't grand-daughters fun. :)

    1. She is a cutie (both the kitty and the grand-daughter). And yes, I'd love to snatch her up (and others too), but unfortunately the Inn (inside the house) is full... and they're all too fast for us these days. But they have a safe yard and food and water when they need it.

  3. Best of luck with the eye surgery and post-op healing, I hope all goes well.

All my appliances are 16 years old too and (knock on wood) still chugging away. Not sure how much longer they'll last, but a good deal longer than anything bought today, I'm afraid, so I hope they keep going for a good while yet.

Your granddaughter is a cutie for sure, so adorable all dressed up. :-)

Smooches to Ghost, and to your ferals too (though I know you can't touch them!).

    1. Yes, our old appliances have done well over the years. Basically we've had Kitchenaid and Maytag for most and can't complain. And yes, I "knock on wood" too.
Ghost thanks you for the smooches... and no, we don't touch the ferals although sometimes they do rub on DH's leg as he feeds them.

  4. I have been missing having a quilting project going myself. I love the young fashion sense!

    1. It's good to have a quilting project going, isn't it? And yes, she does have her own fashion sense. I love the hat!

  5. good move, if the door doesn't stay closed, it's wasting a lot of electricity

    1. True, Linda. If someone isn't careful that the water jug is holding the door closed, the inside of the refrig heats up quickly. But now that refrig will be in the garage... mostly holding extra water bottles, etc. The freezer door does stay closed so frozen foods can be kept there too.

  6. Your granddaughter is adorable. I have the same thing your Siamese is relaxing in. My full grown cat thinks it is the best for sleeping. Minnie has to double over herself to fit.

    1. Our inside cats had that cat lounger first. Tux was the only one who used it, and when he got tired of it, we moved it outside. The kittens love it.

  7. Such a sweet little Spiderman. And I think I'd like that spot, too, Ghost. :-)

    1. That chair that Ghost likes is comfortable... one of my favorites for reading by the fire. It's large and kind of swallows you up in it.

  8. Your granddaughter looks very cute with that green hat!
Best wishes for your eye surgery.

    1. Thanks, John. I love the hat too... although Spiderman may not agree.
