Sunday morning... making granola

This morning I was in the mood for making some home-made granola. It doesn't involve that much... just some oatmeal, maple syrup, brown sugar, salt, a little oil, and vanilla... oh, and lots of fresh chopped nuts!

I use almonds, cashews, pecans, and macadamia nuts

This is after 30 minutes in a 325 degree oven.

Comes out in 1 piece after 30 mins cooling

Then I break it up and put it in tightly covered container... for us to snack on or eat for breakfast.  You can crumble it if you want smaller pieces, but we like to eat it like cookies.

The only thing I do differently than is said to do in the recipe is that right before I put it in the oven, I sprinkle it with a little cinnamon sugar. Adds a little sweet to the salt, and makes the house smell marvelous while cooking. And it's yummy!!

Now for some funny photos:

I think this is a great sign!

and lastly...

Baby girl feral with her bro's

We've started calling her "Mini Pearl" because of her small size and the fact that she stands out like a Pearl among all the black ferals...

  1. The granola looks wonderful. Too wonderful; I couldn't have it around the house without eating way too much. Love the funny sign and the pictures of your kitties. :-)

    1. It is good, DJan. But I will send half of it to my daughter... although DH will complain. She called while I was making it and asked if her dad would share. He will, though not exactly willingly.

  2. Mmm, that granola looks wonderful! I need to limit my intake of grains, nuts and seeds, which is challenging...but I could be tempted for some of that! :-)

I love that zoo sign, it's brilliant. I don't get the whole craze, but maybe I'm too old. Well, I would have been too "old" for it when I was young.

Mini Pearl is a good name. She's a sweetie. I'm glad they have you, but oh, it makes me so sad that there's such a feral problem and that their lives (probably) will be short, with far, far too much breeding, to perpetuate this cycle. :-/

    1. Kim, why do you have to limit your intake of grains and nuts? We love nuts and consider them a fairly healthy snack as long as we don't overdo. As for the Pokeman game, I don't get it either... but apparently lots do. They had a Pokeman night at the zoo recently (which is probably why the sign).

  3. The sign was priceless and the granola looks almost too good. Bet it is hard to eat one. Granddaughter has a cute sense of humor. Mini Pearl fits that little cutie cat perfectly.

    1. I think the sign is priceless too. And the granola is very good... has that nutty maple flavor with just a hint of cinnamon.
