a few odd pics and mundane musings...

"MOM !!!"

Again I was surfing through Pinterest yesterday and came across this pic. Had to post it! So funny! The expression on that cat's face is priceless.

And then this...

This poster I saved and sent to my daughter saying that I'd like to be able to be this way, but haven't reached that point yet. She texted me back that I should always feel OK to say exactly what I feel... and I agree it would be nice, and is possible with some people, but over the years have found that it isn't always prudent to do this.

And lastly, here's another pic that got my attention...

This is definitely a secluded lighthouse station. I imagine that's a helicopter pad next to it.  I tend to like 'secluded', but this might be a bit much.

OK, back to the mundane... somewhere a while back, someone asked if retirees made their bed when they got up each morning. I remember reading various answers and reasons why and why not. I didn't voice my response then, but will now. Yes, I do make my bed every morning as I get up. Takes only a minute to do so and starts the day off with an accomplishment... not to mention looks better whenever I pass through. Is it important? Probably not... or if so, only to me.

And I certainly don't keep a spotless house. It's clean, fairly neat, maybe a little cluttered in areas - pottery, watercolor, and quilt supplies here and there, books on bookshelves for the most part, but some in stacks, and definitely a corner where grandkids toys are piled.

I don't know about others out there, but although we're up between 7:30 and 8:00 each morning, I'm not truly awake for about 30 minutes. Basically I stagger to the bathroom, run a brush through my hair, greet each of the cats good morning, put the coffee on... bring DH a cup, and plop down in armchair with a blanket, my coffee, and a cat - to watch the morning news/weather. By the time Kelly and Ryan come on at 9, I'm ready to start my day. (Now if we're at my daughter's in the hill country, I'd prefer to have my coffee out on the porch watching the chickens and the horses..)

There are always dozens of things that need doing each day... whether you work or don't work. You just have more leeway for when they get done when you don't work. And because of this, it's possible that less gets done... but that's OK too. IMO we paid our dues and now have the option of doing it our way (for the most part). So there are some days that a lot is accomplished and some days not so much.

One thing we do daily no matter what is going on... we both stop between 3 and 4 and have tea or coffee. Even if one of us is out running errands, we tend to meet back at the house for this.

Guess that's enough gabbing for today. Better close this. Besides, it's almost 3:00.  Enjoy your Saturday!

  1. I especially like that poster. I've found that once in a while my mouth and my brain become disconnected and something will slip out, regardless of how appropriate (or not). Oops!

If I make it to retirement, I still will make my bed every morning. It's ingrained in me, and I don't want to step into a messy bedroom at the end of the day.

As for getting things done...I can imagine being rather unproductive in my day-to-day life. LOL. I suspect that for me, having more free time would mean doing less, putting off chores, etc. for more enjoyable things.

My mom is finding that since her husband/my step-dad passed, she no longer rushes to get up and get out to (to the nursing home, medical errands, etc.) and hangs around in her jammies at 9 AM, doing her crosswords, and so on. She seems to be settling into her own routine, which is good. :-)

    1. I think your mom needs the time to adjust and hanging around in her jammies is perfectly OK.

  2. I really enjoy climbing into a well-made bed each evening, so certainly make it each morning! Although hubby has been sick and needing lots of naps, so my bed is not always neat at night. My house is tidy and neat and not perfect. Too clean and neat a house makes for uncomfortable.

    1. I will admit that one of the reasons our bed is always made is because there are always 1-3 cats lying on it during the day. But we do use 2 sheets, and 2 light bedspreads - as well as an afghan - all to contain cat hair and easy to throw into the washer/dryer. The cats are never on the sheets.
And I agree that neat and tidy is nice, too clean and stark looks unlived in.

  3. Happy Belated anniversary! 50 years is quite the milestone.

I'd say you're doing retirement right. Doing as much as you want to do, keeping some routines and looking forward to more adventures.

  4. I make my bed each morning. I don't like getting into an unmade bed at night. I am also a slow starter. I have to have my coffee before I can even consider showering and dressing. I get things done but I certainly agree with you. The best part of retirement is following the schedule I choose.

    1. That could be true. The mountain lion looks a bit frustrated.

  6. I love your description of your morning routine. I too make the bed. Actually, I don't but hubby who gets up after me always makes it. :-)

    1. DH and I tend to get up at the same time... so we make the bed together. Even if I wake up a little earlier, I will lay there and think about the day or check my iPhone until he's awake.

  7. I keep personal remarks to myself, on the whole, but have no problem giving my opinion on topics on which I have an opposing opinion. That's probably because I make my bed every morning.

    1. Ha! If I knew making the bed every morning would make me more extraverted, I should have started doing that a lot earlier.

  8. I do make my bed first thing. My pets don't sleep with me but hog the bed all day. I don't want cat hair on my sheets but like to confine it to the large throw. I wish I didn't but I still do bite my tongue and try to be appropriates most of the time. I do enjoy an occasional shock statement but they are rare.

    1. Only one of our 3 cats sleep with us at night. She has some genetic issues, so we keep a close watch on her. But she never goes under the sheets... stays on top of the foot of the bed (and growls when our feet move and disturb her).

    1. Throwing the window open for fresh air would be great... as long as it isn't either 20 F or 110 F here in Texas.

  10. That secluded lighthouse is a mystery and I wonder where it is. Building it and maintaining it must be quite dangerous. I am retired too and find my days very busy. Today I got up at 7 a.m. so I can take my dog on walk, wash my hair, etc. before Women's Bible Study at church.
