Christmas 2018 is past...

... and our kitties are enjoying their new toys!

Tux

Julie

Ghost

They also shared a few colored balls and toys with the outside ferals. I watched one long-haired kitty outside playing with an orange ball. He batted and chased it all the way to the bushes in the back and I thought, that's one ball gone.... until he picked it up in his teeth and brought it all the way back to the back patio. Ha! I thought... smart cat!

The large grey rat, red cardinal, and several different colored balls were part of Tux, Julie, and Ghost's stash this year.  They also enjoy playing with all the wrapping paper that was left around by the grandkids.

Today is New Year's Eve and outside of making some Italian chicken and pesto pasta tonight, the only way we celebrate the New Year is to make some of my MIL's home-made eggnog (spiked with a little bourbon of course) and toast as the ball is dropped. Of course we don't always make it to midnight, so sometimes we just toast it in early.

And tomorrow we will have the traditional pork roast, black-eyed peas, and cabbage!  Do you have a traditional New Year's Day meal?

Today I spent putting away part of Christmas as well as  piecing together a small quilt. My DIL found some pretty fabric pieces and gave them to me in a bag of other goodies this Christmas. So today I started piecing it all together. The squares are sewn, but I haven't done the rows. I have black binding, but think it might need a bit of color... (have to think on that).

and I also did some clay sculpting, but  I'll post pics of that later...

Wishing all of you a safe
Happy New Year 2019!

    1. Rabbit, Rabbit, or White Rabbit to you also, Linda! I think it's funny to watch them carry their toys around... Tux and Julie like to carry their catnip mice around the house.

  2. I can't get over how delicious that home-made eggnog looks. I remember it from last year. Seems like I asked if it was a secret recipe. It looks just wonderful! I love how the kitties enjoyed their new toys. Makes me feel ashamed as we didn't get Dumperoo and Smokey anything. Well, I'm sure I popped the top on several extra cans of cat food. :) The quilt is pretty. I need to learn how to piece a quilt...especially with all the scraps I have.

    1. I did use last year's pic for the eggnog... since it seemed silly to take another... looks the same every year. It IS delicious and no secret. I will post the recipe on my next blog. And I'm sure your animals are just as spoiled as ours... extra food is always appreciated.

  3. It's great to see other kitties being spoiled too!

A very happy New Year to you and your family, human and fur. May 2019 be your best one yet. :-)

    1. They are definitely spoiled, Kim. Right now Tux and Ghost are curled up in DH and my spots in the den... and do we move them? No... we let them be and sit elsewhere.

  4. I stayed up "late" for me, but I wasn't able to make it to see the ball drop in NYC. I was fast asleep when the fireworks went off, although they are not supposed to be allowed here any more. Happy New Year, and I would have loved to enjoy that eggnog with you. I love your sweet kitties, thank you for sharing them with me. :-)

    1. We made it to the 'ball drop'(NY) and were very disappointed that with all the fog, confetti, and commotion, we couldn't even see the ball. If you're going to spend that much money on a Waterford Crystal ball... I think it should be visible when it drops (used to be). And we also had fireworks for about an hour after midnight from the backyard of the house across the street. Looked like their yard was exploding as I watched from our drive-way camera. And they are not allowed here either...

  5. I'd bind that quilt in one of the middle greys. Looking forward to seeing what you do.

  6. Happy New Year to you and yours, Rian!

We have no special dinner for New Year's Day. It is simply a day to relax. Have a good one1

    1. Thanks, Eileen. Relaxing is always good. I intend to spend what time I'm not cooking either in bed napping or in front of the fireplace relaxing. Picked up another croupy cough over the holidays. Had a great Christmas - but seems like I have to pay for it whenever I get together with family or go out in crowds. But that's OK.

  7. Happy New Year Rian. Glad you made it to the ball drop even though you couldn't see it. I sure didn't and luckily no fireworks here to wake me up. Slept right through and am ready for 2019.

    1. I certainly have my days to just sit and relax... usually with a book by the fire. When the weather gets really bad, I tend to hole up at home.
