Merry Christmas Eve 2019!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Saw this on Pinterest and had to post it as it is so very much our house  during the holidays. Luckily we've never had the whole tree go down, but have had strings of lights pulled down and various ornaments knocked off. But that's OK... we put the tree up for the kids when they were young, now we put it up for the cats (and for that wonderful fresh Christmas tree aroma).

our tree 2019 - lots of little things hanging on bottom for cats

Well, my back is better, but not 100%. I'm worried that it may go out on me again, but I do have an appointment with the Spinal Specialist this week.

I did get my Christmas baking done over several days and the last of it sent out yesterday. They won't get them in Hawaii until the end of the week, but that's OK. We're all a little behind this year for various reasons. I bake for friends and family in New Orleans, neighbors, a few friends here in Texas, and our 3 kids...

My mother-in-law used to do it for all of us...

So I've taken up the tradition...

Last batch done Sunday

Well, I wish you all

a very
Merry Christmas!

and a safe
Happy Healthy 2020!

Hugs,
Rian

  2. I'm so glad to hear your back is better, even if not 100%. For you to be able to accomplish all that baking, it must be doing quite well. I can smell those treats all the way to here! (I wish)

    1. Kim, our tree is full of meaningful ornaments; one for each of the cats that have passed... one for my daughter's horse that she lost, and one for each grandchild born into the family, etc. (and of course the Mardi Gras beads from home). It's not a fashionable tree - but a memorable one.

    1. Thanks, Vic. My MIL had an even more extensive variety. She also made pralines - something I haven't made in ages - maybe next year.

  6. So glad you are better but we are wishing for that 100%. Hope the new doc has the answer. Had to laugh at the cat with the downed tree. That was Minnie except for the coloring. She tried to climb mine. Thus I have no tree but that is OK. I enjoy others.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, pain free 2020.

    1. Some have climbed ours. Mostly they sit under the tree and play with the low hanging ornaments. We usually find a few on the floor in the mornings.

  7. You were definitely busy baking. And what a great tradition you've carried on from your MIL. Loved the Pinterest share. That is our house (and thru-out the year, not just Christmas...with our one and only Terror kitty.)

HAPPY Christmas from one Texan to another!

    1. Happy Christmas to you also! Reading your interests, I find we have a lot of the same ones... and although I'm not a born Texan (born & raised in N.O., LA), we have been here since 1971 and do love it.

  9. Another holiday season almost done . . . Nice that you could take over the family baking tradition.
Cats really do think the tree is all for them, don't they.

    1. Oh yes, the tree is for them and so is every box that comes into the house.

    1. Aloha Gigi and Merry Christmas! My son sent me a video of the beach and the surf (on the east side of Oahu) Christmas morning where he and his wife had coffee! What a wonderful way to start the day. (Of course he told me that the weather got bad later in the day)

    1. We so looked forward to my MIL's Christmas goodies that my kids seem glad that I've taken up her tradition (and some of her recipes). I make Christmas tree tea cakes with almond icing, espresso chocolate cookies (gluten free), coffee shortbread stars (my daughter's favorite), whiskey balls, rum cake, and chocolate graham cracker brickle. Occasionally I try a new recipe... but this year I stuck to the tried and true.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I did get the baking done (took me a little longer than usual as I was moving slow). What I didn't get done was Christmas cards this year. That was a first... but everyone understood... and we did text Merry Christmas to everyone!

  13. Merry Christmas Rian. I enjoyed your Christmas cartoon at the top of your post, it made me laugh aloud. I love that you do the Christmas baking, Mum did that when she was alive, sent a parcel away to my brother's family in the north and gave the rest of us home made shortbread for Christmas. I miss it.
