Happy Halloween - yesterday

Halloween bat cookies!

Happy Halloween - a little late. Hope everyone had an 'interesting' pandemic Halloween. We had our outside lights off for the first time in the 35 years we've lived in this neighborhood. There was probably little door to door activity, but I know some just put buckets of candy out front... and from Ring and Nest doorbells, one could see that most of the little ones took one piece, but some of the older teenage sized kids not only helped themselves, but came back several times for more.

We have twin 5 year old girls that live next door. Friday I had DH bring them a bag of goodies (Halloween coloring books, bat cookies, and candy)... and told their parents that we wouldn't be leaving our lights on this year. Our 7 year old grand daughter lives about 30 minutes away. I knew they were having her do her schooling online and that she wouldn't be trick or treating either. But she did get to wear a costume and walk around the neighborhood. Her dad said she had a good time.

Well, the 2020 election is this week. I have to say that I will be glad to have it over and done. I really hope it can be 'over and done'  without problems. But the way things have been going, this may be too much to hope for.

The pandemic we are learning to live with. We are all in this together and together we will survive it (I hope so anyway). But I also hope that we won't have to continue to live with this political unrest. Our country is better than this.

That's all for me today. Stay safe!

Hugs,

Rian

    1. I lived in New Orleans, Tom. I remember racial unrest... not so much political... but then I was a teenager.

  2. We did distance Halloween. I sat in my garage with the lights on and set up a table with bags of candy at the end of my driveway. We had to replenish a few times and I did it for an hour. I hadn’t planned on doing it originally but later thought that I could do it safely and give some normalcy to at least one holiday for the kids. I had 63 visitors and all the kids and their parents thanked me.

This week will certainly be a tough one for us all in the US. My anxiety level is very high and I am hoping for the best.

    1. 63 visitors! Wow! We used to have large numbers come to the door, but haven't for the last few years.

  3. Those cookies are so cute and look yummy. Great idea.
Yes, this election being over hopefully means we can exhale but I have my doubts and just hope it doesn't bring more unrest.

    1. The cookies were yummy (just iced tea cakes) and are all gone. I may make another batch...

  4. No trick or treating here this year. Not much to look forward to with the coming holiday season either. I remind myself to just keep breathing and let it all go.

    1. That's what we all need to do, Olga. Let it go... but not sure some will be able to.

  5. It's always so nice to see your "face" in my news feed. We didn't have any trick or treaters, but we don't usually anyway. I too will be glad when we are through this awful time and emerge on the other side.

    1. I feel the same, DJan, and wait to see your name in my comments. I'll be glad when this week is over and can't imagine what we'll be feeling next week. Whatever the outcome, I hope and pray people will be sensible.

  6. I did hand out candy, wearing a mask and gloves. There were 17 little goblins at the door, which is way below the normal.

Even though I'm Canadian I'll be happy to see the US election finished, but like you I'm concerned there will be pockets of anger that may boil over in certain places.

    Take care and stay well.

    1. The little ones are so cute on Halloween. I did miss seeing them... but I don't think we had many about this year. As for our election, I just want it over.

  7. for halloween, i took the position if the parents were ok bringing the children around, i was ok with it also. i wore a mask, of course, i was surprised that most children did not wear masks. i love halloween and seeing all the little ones and i had more visitors than i thought i would.

as for the election, who knows when all the votes will be tabulated and a president will be determined. i too will be happy when all of it is over. i worry about unrest and possible riots, i hope we do not see that!!

    1. I don't imagine we're going to know who won for a few days... and even then, I imagine there will be those who will have trouble accepting either outcome. I just hope and pray people let those that are in charge make the final decision without violence. Violence is never acceptable.

  8. I love Halloween of course and to have no trick-r-treaters in the neighborhood was sad. For me, just to have no campaign calls on the phone, messages, and tv ads (also political signs littering every vacant lot)...I'll be glad. Just hope the 'winner' will lead our country well.

    1. I'm not a fan of Halloween... or dressing up, but I know it's fun for the little ones. And I don't know why they continue the political ads on TV this late in the game. I think most have made up their mind and even if not, how can anyone believe half the stuff they advertise.

    2. Ps...bourbon street potatoes? You have piqued my interest

    3. Bourbon 'sweet' potatoes, Anni. And these have been a tradition in our family forever. And yes, they do use bourbon... and even the kids like them!

  9. We had trick or treaters in our neighborhood. The little trickers took one candy. The big kids helped themselves and came back often. They learned this behavior from their parents.

  10. Those bat cookies are so cute! That was nice of you to do special treats for the twin girls. We haven't had a trick or treater in 30 years. They are probably afraid to walk down a dark dirt road and knock on a door...I would be too. Like everyone else, I'll be so glad to see an end to this election.

    1. Thanks, Henny. We used to have quite a lot of trick or treaters over the years, but the numbers have been dwindling. This year we thought it best to keep our lights off. Today is election day! (heaven help us)
