This week was our oldest grandson's birthday. So here is a pic of him with his Cookie Cake (and pandemic beard).
And here is a picture of him with Winston, the family's Golden Doodle! His family is moving to Texarkana and his dad and Winston stopped by to say Happy Birthday on their way out...
Next is a pic of ol' One Eye... the feral I was talking about on my last post. I have been seducing him with treats and chicken and he will come within a few feet of me. But yesterday I shared my 'salmon'... and he came almost to my hand. So I may have found his weakness. This isn't a good pic as it was taken from afar and enlarged, but you can see his bad eye.
I would like for him to let us pet him and although most of the ferals keep their distance, One Eye seems like he might like to come closer. He looks in the front door... which makes me wonder if he was possibly an inside cat at one time.
This next pic is just one DH took of a large grasshopper on the house. We don't see grasshoppers much, so it was interesting... and good to know since we try to keep things 'green' (no chemicals). So when we see lizards, toads, and other critters on the property, it makes us feel good.
Now I will close this with a quick update... and a pic:
As of this past Monday and my visit to the Cardiologist, I'm wearing a heart monitor for the next 30 days. He's trying to determine if my 'episodes' at night are caused by AFib or if possibly they are stress related. (I don't feel especially stressed, but maybe my body thinks differently?)
And I simply had to share this pic of my grandnephew, his wife, and baby. It is so-oo cute. I can't believe they got the baby to smile for the pic!
That's my ramblings for today. Hope you are all having a good weekend. The weather is beautiful here today in North Texas. It was pretty chilly this morning, but perfect this afternoon (62 F).
I'm feeling strangely optimistic today... not sure why, but despite all the weird things going on in the world right now (health-wise, politically, and even personally) I find that something is telling me that things are happening just as they are supposed to... and if we stay true to what we believe is right, all will be well (or as they said in the movie, "all will be well in the end... and if it's not, then it isn't the end").
Take care my friends!
Hugs (virtual),
Rian
Lovely, lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to your grandson.
We try to be green too. No poisons here.
It does sound as if you have found one eye's weak spot. Which is wonderful.
Hope is a fragile essential isn't it?
It truly is, EC. We have to choose it daily or it tends to slip away.
DeleteYou have a lovely family, Rian. :-)
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for that cat. I hope you do gain his trust with salmon. Poor love.
Good luck with the heart monitor and the results. It might not be stress in your case, but repressed emotions certainly do take a toll on the body (NOT suggesting this is what is happening for you, this is a general comment). I've seen the results in others, namely my own mom, and I suspect that most of us have felt the effects of stress on our health. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts!
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them.
DeleteI'm not sure there is a difference between stress and repressed emotions?? I'll have to check that out. My Echocardiogram is this week. I've been told that this test will tell a lot. I hope so.
As for One Eye... I will continue to try to gain his trust. He has been through a lot.
Rian, that's a nice photo of your grandson (and his beard, haha). That photo of your grandnephew & his family is really sweet too. The heart monitor thing is a little scary, but good for you for being on top of this stuff, and seeing "Ol' One Eye" broke my heart a little, that poor little guy! Very glad he's got you to turn to... hoping you get some good medical news soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Dug! Our grandson lives with us. He is a good kid (grown man, but still a kid to me). And all my boys have tried the beard to some degree or other. I like beards in general, but I prefer the boys clean shaven (but that's just me and whatever they want to do is fine with me). That photo with the baby smiling really got to me... so cute. They are a darling family. And One Eye is my new project. Not that we don't spoil all of them, but he's our miracle feral - since when he first showed up in one of our cat baskets, we thought he would never survive. But he did!
DeleteWhat a cute picture of the new family. And your grandson is a handsome guy too. Happy belated birthday to Chase.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear your cardiologist is taking your concerns seriously and hope that you'll get some answers soon.
Love the Buddha quote!
I love that quote too! What we do "today" is what matters most...
DeleteOops, think I hit delete instead of publish when the phone rang. That is some impressive beard your grandson grew. Hope he has a wonderful birthday. And that pic of your grand nephew's family is adorable. I used tuna to entice ferals. Worked every time and it seems One Eye has a taste for fish.
ReplyDeleteLet us know about the monitor. I wore one for a while and they are a great diagnostic tool.
Thanks, Patti. That impressive beard is on the same kid that is making cookies in the pic on the right of my blog (when he was about 5).
DeleteI don't eat much tuna, but I do love fresh salmon... and am willing to share it with One Eye. But guess I could pick up a can of tuna for him on occasion.
And I will let you know about the monitor. I'm getting used to it. The wires sometime get in the way. I caught one on a knob in the kitchen and it almost pulled it off my skin this morning.
i second those thoughts!!
ReplyDeletei hope your heart monitor gives a glimpse into what is happening, that you get the answer you are looking for!! the family picture of grand nephew and company is really adorable...it is so nice to see a happy little family!!
Thanks, Debbie. I love that pic too.
DeleteI heard that November is the month of growing beards (for men, lol) ...he's in style!! A cookie 'cake'. Sounds good to me!! Awww, that last photo melts my heart. Speaking of heart ...I have an appointment with MY cardiologist this coming week. It's acting up as is yours. I'm hoping it's nothing, but you never know. A Holder monitor and diary is a necessary hassle. Maybe just a med adjustment?
ReplyDeleteOne Eye is darling. Got salmon?
Anni, I do have a 'holster' for the heart monitor recorder, but it doesn't fit the wires?
DeleteSo I have to wear something that either has pants pockets, shirt pockets, or a button down shirt so the wires can have a place to come out to the holster.
My husband recently had to wear the next generation of heart monitors. No wires, just stuck on his chest for a month and covered it when he showered. It showed no problems, and I hope yours does the same for you. Ole One Eye is a fine looking survivor! Maybe he'll heat out of your hand eventually. :-)
ReplyDeleteNext generation of heart monitors? No wires? And apparently doesn't have to unhook all the electrode patches and wires when showering? My doctor must be 'old school'? It's not really that difficult, but I just have to accommodate all the wires.
DeleteI'm hoping One Eye will come round. I would like to comfort him more.
Oh Texarkana. I bet they will love it there. I lived there for about four years a million years ago now. I thought it was pretty neat being able to stand in front of the post office on State Line Avenue and have one foot in Texas and the other one in Arkansas.
ReplyDeleteVic, I hope so. We visited Hot Springs, Arkansas and that area is really nice...
DeleteOh, that's a nice place too. I was born there.
DeleteA belated Happy Birthday to your grandson. Winston is so pretty. I love those "Doodle" dogs! Oh I do hope the poor cat will become your friend. Sounds like he may have been an inside cat. How pitiful. Dan and I refuse to use chemicals too. Can't stand the thoughts of hurting frogs and lizards or even the bugs in the garden. We have a neighbor who carries a can of spray everywhere she goes, even in the car, she kills everything in sight and I could wring her neck! Hope your heart monitor shows everything is fine.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Henny. When I see the chemical lawn truck in our neighborhood, I want to tell them to please leave.
DeleteWe got a Siberian forest cat in 2009. She'd been a breeding queen for the first five years of her life, and was sold when she needed a hysterectomy. She'd been in a lovely home. Larisa wouldn't let us touch her for 62 days! I'm betting One Eye has a similar attitude.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Linda. One Eye looks like he'd 'like' to trust us... but still not sure.
