Check out my "pages".... across the top now!!

Hurray! I did it!

This last time I was checking out the 'layout' on my blog and tried to move my "Pages" to across the top, it worked!  Look right above this post!  Don't know why, but suddenly there was a line across the very bottom of my screen that allowed a "Save"! (Did I never see it before... or did it just appear? I don't know and I don't care. It worked!)

Now I wonder if I can change the font or color on that... since it doesn't show up very well.  Oh well, another challenge.

Also I recently ordered a few things from both Wayfair and Amazon that fellow bloggers either showed or mentioned. One was the Veg Trug that Debbie has that I've been wanting for a long time. It was on sale this week on Wayfair. (If you're interested in anything on Wayfair, they are having a great sale... just for a few days). The other thing was those glass milk bottles that Dug mentioned on his last post. DH and I both thought those were a good idea since our half gallon carton of whole milk always goes bad before we can use it up. Thank you Debbie and Dug!

I will report that we believe at least 3 feral mamas have had their kittens. They show up to eat and are no longer fat. None have had them in our yard that we can tell... (we do check). Even White Face moved her 3 babies off the cat tree on the back porch (thank goodness as they kept falling out) to somewhere else.

Another cat related story: DH was outside closing the side fence one day last week and a walker asked him about the Wildlife Refuge sign on our fence.  He explained that if you meet certain qualifications (trees, water, bush and ground coverage - basically water, food, and shelter for wildlife) your yard can be qualified as a wildlife habitat.

She said that she didn't live on the creek as we do, but her neighbor does have a bird sanctuary in their backyard. I was interested in this as at one time I raised both Zebra Finches and English Budgies. We don't anymore due to the number of neighborhood feral cats we care for now.  But I do have several empty bird cages that perhaps her neighbor might be interested in. We shall see.

And lastly, before I close this, I will say that recently I've come across 2 new recipes that I'm going to try. One is an Irish Stew made with Guinness and the other is a Garlic Chicken Fried Rice. Both recipes sound like something we would like. If they turn out to be something to add to my favorites, I will let you know... or they could just turn out to be a 'one off'.

(also I will mention that DH finally got his haircut at the barbers after more than 2 years of me doing a really sh...y job! The time had come - at least while we're seeing a somewhat diminished covid outbreak.)

... however, I did order another batch of kn95 masks from Amazon... just to be cautious.

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. Yes!! Those pages look a lot nicer there and more apparent you have them, that's wonderful Rian! Good for you for not giving up! Secondly, thanks for the milk bottle shout-out! I love mine, I think you will too. Third, that's so awesome about your Wildlife Refuge sign. You have a good heart. Now I need to check out your pages. 🙂👍👍

    1. Dug, I haven't added anything new on the 'Pages' sections... but will think about doing that soon. Just can't believe that it finally worked!! And I'll never know if it was just me or Blogger that was the problem... not that it matters.

  2. Hurrah for the pages! Yes you can change the font colour, the font, the tab colour, etc. Click on theme in your blog settings, then customize. You probably have to scroll down a bit to see the Advanced drop-down menu, but the customizations are all in there.

I hope the feral babies will be safe, it's always a worry when you take care of critters.

    1. I tried going to settings, theme, then customize... and it gave me strange options like backup, html, etc. Didn't see anything for changing font or color. Since I just got the page thing to move where I wanted it, I was afraid to fool with it too much.... but thanks.

  3. Glad Mama Whiteface decided to stop the flying lessons for her kitties! Some areas have a program with animal shelters, where you can take a feral cat in for spaying and then return them to their original location. Wonder if that's an option? Linda in Kansas

    1. Me too! Those kittens flew out every time mama jumped out herself - probably because they were attached to her. As for the spaying feral cats programs (catch and release)... yes, we have those... and used them in the past. Now that we're up in age, we no longer try to catch ferals or bring kittens in to the Adoption Room. We simply offer a safe yard... others can continue with that. It is a good program - just no longer an option for us.

  4. Well done on the pages front. I have a couple of pages (books I have read in other years) but have never published them.
I love the idea of having a Wildlife Refuge at home. Well done there too.
I have braved haircuts a couple of times now - but sadly 'my' hairdresser has moved. I may become a shaggy dog story. Again.

    1. EC, I had let my hair grow long for almost 2 years, then when there was a lull before Omicron, I got mine cut. But DH held out and had me cut his until yesterday. I really can only cut the length... didn't do well trying to shape it. But since he doesn't have a lot of hair, it was OK. Although it does look better, I was kind of liking the shaggy look...

  5. So impressed with your determination. You DID it!!
That Garlic Chicken Fried Rice sounds really good. Let us know if you try it.
Sounds like your feral herd is growing and I just hope there isn't a predator keeping the babies away and that the mamas have found a safe place.

    1. I did! Finally! And I'm dying to try the Chicken Fried Rice.
As for the feral herd, it's the first time we've had 3 females having kittens around the same time... usually the ferals wander off after they get older, but this little group seems to be staying together. I too hope no predator is around, but we do live on a creek...

  6. Not sure my comment made it. Will come back later to check. Don't like this new system.

  7. Good to know that many of the cats were laying over and then back on the way.

    1. Over the years, Joanne, many have come and gone... some stay around longer than others... (and over the years we have taken quite a few in to become inside cats... and others to the Adoption Room at the Animal Shelter)

  8. Good job on the pages! I have a full box of K95 masks and almost want to order a back up. I just don't think this is all over yet.

    1. Yes, better safe than sorry... and I tend to continue to wear masks during flu season and outdoors for the pollen anyway.

  9. Hurray for fixing the pages. The color isn't perfect, but quite functional in any case. Glad to hear White Face has found a better place for her remaining kittens.

    1. No, the color is a bit light... but yes, functional. And we haven't found where White Face has moved her kittens... possibly not in our yard... but knowing her, not too far away.

  10. Well done on figuring out the pages. I've got the most basic of layout and that stymies me whenever I try to change it.

Will the kittens be trapped, either for adoption or for neutering/spaying? I'm thinking you may end up be overwhelmed!

Good luck with the new recipes.

    1. Mae, the kittens aren't always in our yard. So we won't know much until they turn up... and generally that's when they are 6 weeks old or more... and their mama's bring them to eat with them. If they were all in our yard, yes... we would be overwhelmed.
