But he is a sweetheart... and very lovable. My grandson and I visited them in Texarkana the weekend before Easter. They have a netted deck out back and these little hummers kept going inside the net. Finally my son hung a feeder out there... and they went right for it.
I hope everyone had a nice Easter. The weather was fine here. We didn't do any big get-together, but I did make the 3 of us pork chops with brown sugar and garlic butter as well as some cheddar rice with broccoli and sweet potatoes. For dessert we had a pecan peach dump cake - which is the one of the boys' favorites.
We didn't do baskets this year... just each got some Easter chocolate (of course). I did have an Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt for youngest granddaughter yesterday... and am now getting ready to put Easter away and start using that table for working on my jungle quilt.

Oh, funny story here (kind of)... DH and I just got back from shopping at Central Market. We were picking up curb-side, but went inside to get something first. Apparently one of our neighbors was inside, started waving and saying hello. I didn't know her. But DH recognized her as a neighbor that lives a few blocks down. Anyway, we stopped to say hello and she said, "You're the neighbors with the black cats..." And I said, "Actually, we don't own any cats, but we do feed the neighborhood ferals". She laughed. So... I guess we have a reputation?? (we do have a "Wildlife Sanctuary" sign on our fence... and a Black Cat sign in the window saying "Welcome" - guess that's enough to draw attention...)

Normally we see the same 4-5 black and black & white feral cats here day after day. But on occasion we have 7-9 at feeding time. The jungle quilt top is already pieced and bordered. I just have to put the top, batting, and backing together. Then I let my friend hand bind it... she's much better at hand sewing than I am.
DeleteWinston is indeed a biggest lap dog I've seen in awhile. Just an adorable face! And I do hope White Face has an easy time of it all. Love your pictures and your story of a very wonderful laid back Easter.
ReplyDeleteDJan, I too worry about White Face... she is young and small and this will be her first litter. She seems so big that I imagine she's going to have at least 5 kittens.

ReplyDeleteSo the hummers are out all ready? Haven't seen any here yet. I am conflicted about feeding them this year as I usually do. They recommend not feeding birds due to the bird flu. I will have to check to see if it applies to hummers.

Patti, the hummers were certainly out in Texarkana. We filled the feeders, but haven't seen any around here yet.

ReplyDeleteDug, the pecan peach dump cake is the easiest dessert in the world to make... and so good. As for the caretaker of the ferals... I just didn't realize that people (besides our close neighbors) were aware of that. I didn't know this person, yet she knew us...

ReplyDeleteWe had a quiet Easter, just my son and I. No chocolate but we'd eaten enough pastel colored jelly beans by then. Your table looks lovely and the dessert sounds absolutely delicious.
No hummers here and with more snow on the ground today, I doubt we'll see them for a number of weeks yet. I don't have much luck attracting them in my yard but my brother's feeder on the verandah on the farm is enticing.
Quiet holidays can be good... especially these days. But NO CHOCOLATE? I guess we're pretty much all chocoholics here (although DH does like his black jelly beans).
DeleteMy Texas cousin had an English sheep dog, probably a bit bigger than Winston. She could only come into their small house if she immediately crawled under the coffee table.
ReplyDeleteOh, Winston is very much a part of the house... son even made him a crate out of a baby bed with a regular baby bed mattress... although I do believe he sleeps on their bed too.

I, too, don't eat regular chocolate anymore, though I've recently started having a tiny piece of sugar-free chocolate every day. I'm not supposed to have any chocolate, but gees, a person has to live!

We think she had her kittens yesterday. Don't know where she had them... we looked around the yard and can't find them. But she's lost her fat belly and although she didn't come to eat last night, she did come this morning.

I found a bunny tablecloth (not as pretty as yours) and napkins. I had it on the table when Dan came home from hunting. He said, "ew, you're going to leave that on the table, are you? Well, of course I did. It looked so pretty and Easterlike. :)
ReplyDeleteDH just took a pic of White Face's kittens. She apparently had 3 black and 1 white. I will post a pic on my next blog. And thanks for the comment on my bunny tablecloth. I bought it on sale at Williams Sonoma after Easter about 2 years ago. Love the color!
